My nan was a resident here, her room was dirty, and the carpet was stained. The pressure cushion on her chair had seen better days it had bits falling off it. She was given a footstool that had stains of some description on it. We couldn't see her for a long period due to covid outbreaks in the home.
When we did get to see her she cried a lot and said how poor the care was that she received, often waiting 20 minutes to use the commode, told to hold on or just do it in her pad. She complained that the assistance given to her when washing was minimal and she felt dirty. There were other people's clothes in her wardrobe and drawers and a carer put a t-shirt on her that wasn't hers and refused to take it off when nan complained, she said she was shouted at and made fun of by a few carers. I wouldn't recommend this home to anyone. Avoid.

This is home is terrible, the management are doing their best to make it difficult for family members to visit, they are currently only allowing 3 appointments a day for the whole day, that means only three of the residents can have family members visiting them on any one day. On the weekends there
are no managers available, and the staff are not trained well enough to answer some simple questions. There have also been many occasions where we have attended and noticed other residents wearing our family member's clothes, also there have been occasions where our family member was left unwashed. We pay a lot of money for the care home to take good care of our family member, but we are not happy with the level of care they are giving. Though I understand that the Covid pandemic has meant some changes had to be put in place, the fact that most of the rules have now been lifted should mean that we at least have better access to our family member than this home is willing to offer.

Dear Karl,
We are sorry that this was your experience at our service. Firstly, let me reassure you that there is no limitation to the number of visits for our residents in normal circumstances. However, we were unfortunately in outbreak at the early part of this year therefore the service could only accept essential visits into the home. We apologise for the inconvenience and upset this may have caused to both yourself and your family.
With regards to other residents wearing your relative’s clothes, the home has not permitted visits in communal areas since 2020. Therefore, relatives have had no access to other residents except their family member. Furthermore, we have a reliable laundry department that ensures that all residents’ clothes are washed, ironed and delivered straight into the residents’ wardrobe. As a home we encourage relatives to ensure that residents’ clothes and belongings are labelled to ensure that they are wearing their own clothes but unfortunately this is not always the case as identified by yourself on your visit to the home.
I can only apologise also that you found your relative to appear that they had not received any personal care.
To further enhance the support we provide within the service we have taken action to review the concerns you have raised and any actions arising from your concerns will be shared and addressed with our team to ensure an incident of this nature does not happen again. I really like it here. Everything from the care, staff, my room, food, activities and safety. Everybody is lovely. I just don't like the fact that I can't walk due to my health condition but the staff are always available to provide me with all needed assistance and support. I will highly recommend
this care home to anyone if they need similar care of treatment.

It is pretty good living at Perry Locks Care Home, the staff are very good with the service offer. When I need support and I use the call bell, the staff come almost immediately to support me. I am happy here and have settled in. I feel safe. The staff are very respectful and kind.

I think it could do with more staff at times. All the staff treat us with dignity. When the staff have time, they join in activities with us. The activities are very good from quizzes to exercise and last week we made our own pizzas. This went down with fun and laughter. All the staff are very friendly.
We take part in St David's Day, Valentine's Day etc. We also have has an English tea party which brought back memories for some of the residents. We are going through a refurbishment at the moment which I cannot wait to see so I could recommend this home.

Generally pleasant and helpful staff. Some strange restrictions during lockdown like not being able to see my wife for many weeks even through a locked glass window. Whilst elsewhere 60,000 fans allowed to a football stadium. I thought the window ban was over the top.

I am very pleased with the level of care my mum is receiving at Perry Locks. The staff are excellent, they treat mum with kindness and respect and they are always willing to answer any questions I have. Mum always looks so well cared for when I visit. She enjoys all the activities and facilities there
and she has really improved and gained since moving to Perry Locks.

My Mum was a resident at Perry Locks Care Home, in Calthorpe House for one year. During her stay, Mum was well looked after especially during the pandemic when the family was unable to visit Mum. There was a language barrier but some staff played a key role at making Mum feel at home and that put our
family's mind at rest to some extent that Mum could communicate. We're very thankful to all the staff for taking very good care of Mum.

My father has recently moved over to Calthorpe House Perry Locks from another house. Since being there his level of care has significantly improved. The staff at Calthorpe are excellent especially the house manager and nurse. Nothing is too much trouble. He, for the first time, has gained weight and
I've even seen him smile, he seems so much happier and more engaged - I wish he had started here. I have regular updates about my father and all the staff regularly demonstrate how much they care and support him.

Mom went to Perry Locks for respite care from hospital for 4 weeks. Because of Covid, she was able to stay as a paying resident. The family were so pleased, as family members have experience of the home already. Mom died within a few weeks and it was as though she had been there for years; staff are
so lovely and really cared for Mom, coming out to pay respects to her funeral. I cannot thank the staff enough and during such a difficult time.

My father was in their care for just one-week fir his and of life. During his stay, all the staff showed him respect and really cared for him. They showed sympathy and compassion to myself and my family whilst following government guidelines due to COVID-19. What wonderful people they are even after
he had passed, they phoned me to say he had left their care and had made him comfortable for his journey.

My mother lived at Perry Locks Care Home from October 2015. From the time she lived there, the care staff were kind, caring and showed empathy and integrity. Mother had lots of health issues and was deaf from birth so they overcame many issues in her time there with thought and support too to her needs
quite well. Communication could be much stronger between house management and their staff to help the unit room more professionally. I felt sometimes it was awkward trying to understand their way of doing policy and procedures. Any serious issues, the main office supported and resolved. Activities have deteriorated over the last 2/3 years - no imagination and repetitive.

Our relative was taken to Perry Locks Nursing Home after we had the experience of having a close friend cared for at the home.
The staff have been absolutely brilliant in looking after our relative; they cared for him as if he was a member of their family with love, even up until the end. They were
patient with the situation surrounding the pandemic and still found ways for us to be able to see and communicate with our relative.
Leading up to our relative's death the staff went over and above for him; absolutely brilliant and we are ever so grateful to those who cared for our relative.
Communication was good, keeping us informed of any changes or concerns, attending meetings with external agencies, arranging personal care for hair and nails and listening to and actioning our concerns.
We would definitely recommend the Home.

My uncle was a resident in Perry Locks Care Home for a period of 15-months until he sadly passed last month. He was very happy there, was well looked after and at his time of life and condition, he enjoyed his time there. Like the staff who were very caring and treated him with dignity. Inconclusion

Perry Locks dementia unit is like a large family. The manager, all carers and staff are there not only for the residents but relatives, as your feelings are taken into consideration as well. Support is given to everyone at all times, as have known them all for 32-months.

Night staff not treating me with dignity. Left in soiled pads etc. for a very long time. Complaint made. The day staff was very good, no complaints. Due to coronavirus, we were in our rooms quite a lot and unable to fully appreciate all facilities. Was there for respite after a hospital stay.

My father has been a resident for the last four weeks. Do date I have found the staff accommodating, informative, and attends to their needs. They have demonstrated to date that they take time to understand how best to deal with each resident in a respectful manner. Also very important to the resident

The staff at Perry Locks were extremely friendly, helpful and respectful to my mother. One was especially helpful and informative. My mother eventually returned home but I will certainly be contacting Perry Locks in the future as and when she needs residential care as I would not hesitate to entrust
my mother's care to them again.

Home Manager at Perry Locks, Birmingham


“Kind care to me is empowering and involving our Residents in their own care as well as promoting their dignity, health and wellbeing.”


As a Registered Adult Nurse with a BSc degree in Adult Nursing accompanied by an MSc in Public Health, Patience has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and quality of life for Residents.


Having worked at HC-One since 2015, Patience closely shares HC-One’s vision is aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Patience remarked: “My favourite thing about being a Home Manager is the ability to work closely with a group of people with different skills and talents. Having the opportunity to support and watch Colleagues develop professionally is very fulfilling to me.”


Patience has achieved much throughout her life, with one of her proudest achievements has been her career development through HC-One. Patience started as a carer in 2015 and was promoted to Senior Carer, whilst this was happening, she was also attending nursing school which allowed her to become a Unit Manager. Once Patience had completed her degrees, she became a Deputy Home Manager and now holds the Home Manager position.


Outside of work, Patience enjoys cooking for her family and spending quality time with them.
