My mother has been living permanently at the Royal Star & Garter - Solihull for over a year, and previous to Covid lockdown in 2020, had been a day visitor, twice a week for three years.

Mum is extremely happy at Royal Star & Garter, she feels her every need is met. The staff are kind, caring considerate,

and attentive. She dresses and looks well, is socialised, engaged, mentally and physically stimulated, and active both in and outside the house. The menus are varied and plentiful and served in a beautiful dining room of top restaurant quality. Other meals are served with residents of the individual house wings or in mum's spacious room (if she so desires)

I am in regular communication with the staff, who are very responsive and courteous. As a result, I feel part of the Royal Star & Garter family too.

It is a massive relief and joy to her family that she is so well cared for and happy.

My dad has been in the Royal Star & Garter for just over a year now. Initially, we had full access to the home and were extremely impressed. This was dad's third home, the other two couldn't cope with him. We then had Covid and the home have done everything in their power to accommodate us, from Facetime
and then creating a room (sealed). We felt very confident that the home would look after dad and he is thriving there. He is 100 times better and the staff know his needs and really care about the residents. 10 out of 10!

During lockdown, the staff have become my mother's family and she has had the best possible care. The staff have helped us keep in touch using Facetime and sending us photographs. The opening of the pods where I can safely visit her behind a glass screen but warm and inside have been brilliant and feel
very Covid secure.

My Mum has been a resident at Royal Star & Garter for 3.5 years now and I can only give it 5-stars for the care my Mum has received. Standards are exemplary, all the staff from the manager to domestics are very professional, friendly and accommodating. My mum's carers in Whiteley Wing are just wonderful!
The food, cleanliness and overall service is truly first-class. Would highly recommend! The Covid visiting facility is equally 5-stars too!

Throughout the period of Covid, the Royal Star and Garter has done its utmost to keep its residents safe. When my husband, son of resident died, they helped us break the news to my mother in law. The staff supported us during a very tricky time. I have been impressed by the way that they have protected
their residents at crucial times and the facility that they have for visiting, the pods, is fantastic. I feel very safe and I know that my mother in law does too. Their system is working. It is quite difficult for our communication because we need to wear face masks and my mother in law is hard of hearing. She can understand better when she can use some lip-reading.

My husband was introduced to the Royal Star & Garter on a weekly basis to their Dementia day care. He went every Tuesday from 10 am to 4 pm until lockdown. It was evident from the start that he really enjoyed it and so when the time came for him to be admitted to full-time care, he was familiar with
everyone and was happy to stay. The staff are very caring, dedicate and wonderful in dealing with the residents and their families, nothing is too much trouble for them. They keep me well informed and also any changes imposed with the restrictions. My husband is always happy, smiling and content when I visit; all that I wish him to be and that is due to the love and care of all at the home.

My dad moved into the Royal Star & Garter in the middle of the first lockdown. It had been a hugely stressful few weeks for us as a family and really hard for us to hand him over, not knowing when we would see him again. The care and compassion shown to us by all the staff has been second to none and
it is evident that he is really well cared for. The staff are excellent at on keeping us informed of any changes in his condition and monitor him very well. The pandemic has meant that they have had to work even harder to keep everyone safe, yet they always have time to chat if we needed a bit of reassurance. The rooms with the glass panels are fantastic and we feel very safe, it is a well organised system with thorough cleaning in between. We look forward to spending time with both dad and the wonderful staff to whom we are immensely grateful.

I thought it would be good to update my review from Oct 2018.
The home was very good then and even more impressive today!

As we are now approaching my mother’s second year, I’m still so impressed with the whole package, the accommodation and the very caring friendly staff.
The home has recently

undergone an update with additional quiet area’s and an expansion of the dining room to accommodate residents and family visitors in splendid surroundings.
The new reception/bar area is extremely comfortable and welcoming,
I often find my mother here enjoying this social hub, reading or chatting. To see the friendly staff, talking, entertaining and helping the residents is very heartwarming!
Since my previous review I am a little older and wiser, my mother-in-law has recently been admitted to another home. After viewing numerous other homes they just do not compare with the Royal Star and Garter.
I can honestly say, I am so pleased we have found my mother's home from home!
A big thank you to all the staff, you have created an extremely high caring benchmark.

Always sensitive to relatives needs, which is excellent. Staff performance in emergencies balanced, understanding, sensitive and professional. My mother-in-law is not easy, she had a sheltered and very active social life, which she misses terribly. One minor feeling, should she be directed more into
action? She can be really obstinate and refuse to take advice.

As a long-standing friend of one of the residents, I have regularly visited her in the Royal Star and Garter Homes. I am always pleased by the quality of care offered to the residents at every stage of their stay, the friendliness of the staff, welcoming of visitors and the many varied activities offered.
The rooms are well equipped and comfortable and opportunities sought to expand the facilities in a very tasteful way.

My mom spent a week at The Royal Star & Garter for respite. This was the third care home we have tried in three years in order for us to have a break and were close to giving up until we found this wonderful place.
A care home with lovely caring staff, too many for me to name individually. I finally
feel I can have a break and know my mom will be safe and well cared for. Thank you to everyone, you all do your profession proud.

My father is a Daycare user and we couldn’t be more pleased with the home. He really looks forward to his Thursday slot. The staff are so welcoming and attentive to his needs. There are lots of activities and day trips to enjoy which keeps his mind active. The dining room is set out like a restaurant
and the meals are lovely. I always worried about the possibility of him going into a home as a permanent resident but after seeing The Royal Star and Garter Solihull I would have no hesitation as it is a wonderful caring place and the staff do everything they can to make it a big happy family environment.

The home is a home in every sense. The residents are treated with the utmost respect. Everyone from the cleaning staff to the senior nurses is forever cheerful and welcoming. The other day a resident was sitting on his own and at least 3 members of staff who could have walked by stopped and spoke to
him. My mother is in the best place.

My mother (who is the oldest resident at the home) came to Star and Garter when she was '95'. The family were delighted with the choice of home for her and she settled very well. The care is exemplary, the staff very thoughtful in their caring and every aspect of her life there is commendable. She's
now '101'!!

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.900)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.900) out of 10 for Royal Star & Garter - Solihull is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.900 for Royal Star & Garter - Solihull is calculated as follows: ( (280 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 310 Ratings = 4.9
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Royal Star & Garter - Solihull is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I qualified as an adult nurse in 2013 and specialised in Cardiology and High Dependency care at Solihull Hospital. I then went on to manage a local care home for three years before I had the pleasure of joining Star & Garter – Solihull, in June 2024.

I am extremely passionate about leading the team to provide gold-standard care for our residents, enabling them to provide person-centred, individualised care. I have a special interest in diversity and inclusion and keep up to date with the most recent research to support both the residents and staff.
