My sister has been at Hazelhurst for just over 1 year now following a severe stroke. She is only 55 years old. As a family, this has been life-changing for us all and difficult to deal with. Making sure that my sister has the best life possible has been our utmost priority. The love, support and kindness
that our whole family has received from everyone at Hazelhurst has been tremendous. The staff are constantly trying to think of activities more suitable for my sister due to her age and they treat her as an individual. Nothing is too much trouble and we are all very grateful. Having viewed many homes before choosing Hazelhurst I can honestly say, there is none better. If anyone has to make the decision for a loved one to go into care Hazelhurst is outstanding in every way.

My wife has been a resident at Hazlehurst for over a year having suffered a stroke and needing a high level of care.
I regularly visit the home and spend a considerable amount of time in the home which allows me to witness how patients are treated, cared for etc.
I am delighted with our experience
at Hazlehurst. The home is like a family to my wife. All of the staff genuinely care about my wife and provide a fantastic level of care. This also extends to the whole team from the gardeners, cleaners, chef - to everyone. She is treated with respect and dealt with in a kind and considerate manner and the same service is given to all residents from what I have seen. There are activities for the patients and good facilities. Low turnover of staff with plenty of experience and expertise. A professional service delivered in a personal style. I know my wife has great care so I can relax without constantly worrying about her.
Reply from Charlotte Whittington, Home Manager at Hazelhurst Nursing HomeThank you for your feedback and valued support. It means such a lot to us at Hazelhurst and we are very appreciative of your kind words and taking time to complete this review.

My mother was a resident at Hazelhurst Nursing Home for the last few weeks of her life, and in that time, she was treated with the utmost respect, kindness and compassion. At times, she had little or no appetite - the staff and catering team would spend time with her to encourage her to try all sorts
of different foods.
My mother had the most dignified death that we, as a family, could have wished for, and that is thanks to the wonderful team at the home. We, as a family, will always be grateful.

Visited my friend, who I hadn’t seen in a long time. She seemed very happy and I am not surprised, as Hazelhurst is a lovely home. The nurses were very friendly, and the grounds were beautiful! My friend said she felt very safe there, which was nice.

We were struggling to cope and realised we needed help and specialist help at that. That’s exactly what we found at Hazelhurst. Friendly and professional staff providing a home-from-home experience and all done with the utmost of care. My relative's return to good health was swift once he was given
the care he needed. It’s a great comfort to know that he could go any time he needed to. Thanks to everyone for getting my relative back home in a super quick time.

We had to book into Hazelhurst as my relative was very frail after contracting Covid and wasn’t coping with our support alone and we all realised professional help was needed and that’s just what we got. Once my relative was mobile again, which was only after a few days, then he made great progress
and in no time was back to his normal self. He was able to go back home where he continues to live independently with our support. We couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of his stay at Hazelhurst. Thank you to all who he came into contact with.
Reply from Charlotte Whittington, Home Manager at Hazelhurst Nursing HomeThank you for recent review of your relatives stay at Hazelhurst. My wife entered Hazelhurst in July 2020. She has advanced Alzheimers and severe osteoarthritis. During the height of the Covid emergency, I was very impressed by the way in which the manager and staff coped with formidable problems created by the pandemic, balancing the tension between maintaining residents'
safety and allowing as much access to relatives/ friends as possible.
Now that the Covid threat has decreased there are clearly still challenges in being able to operate the nursing home in the light of rising costs and being able to recruit and retain staff. That Hazelhurst continues to be warm and welcoming for residents and visitors is a great credit to management and the dedicated staff. The ethos of dignity for residents is evident as is the commitment of staff to their often difficult tasks. It's hard to believe there is anywhere better for my wife to be now that I can no longer meet her needs at home. Thank you to the manager and all of your team.

Mum sadly passed away last month after nearly 8 years at Hazelhurst. During this time, she received the most excellent care that we could have asked for. We have nothing but praise for all the staff and their devoted care. Many thanks for making the last few years of Mum’s life as comfortable as possible.

I cannot thank the staff at Hazelhurst enough, they have been there for both my mother and the family at all times during the past seven and a half years and right up until the end. Their dedication and also love towards her has always been incredible and has been a huge comfort to the family, knowing
that she has been in such excellent hands and in such a wonderful setting and environment. During Covid, my siblings and I were able to see and engage with our Mother via video call, each and every week, and that experience was always invaluable to us. Thank you so much! Special thank you to the staff member that organised these calls plus also the weekly video Church calls which we know Mum would have loved.

Our mother was a resident at Hazelhurst Nursing Home for nearly 8 years before she passed away recently. During her time there, she always received consistent first-class care and we will always feel indebted to everyone, across the whole staff spectrum, for enabling our mother’s life to be the best
it could possibly be in spite of her illness and for their warm support for her and for us, the family. Knowing that our mother was so well cared for and in such good hands was a great comfort to us and we will always remember our time at Hazelhurst with much gratitude and affection.

After a period in hospital followed by several daily visits from carers, it was good for my mother to move into a home that can care for her at all times. Being close to where she grew up and spent most of her life Hazelhurst Nursing Home offered a beautiful and comfortable location where she could
be visited by old friends. Her health has improved in the six months that she has been there, a good sign that she has settled in well.

My mother was admitted to Hazelhurst Nursing Home at the end of April after a very thorough admission process. She has settled well and likes all the staff. She looks physically the best I have seen her for a long time. She lives with dementia and could be quite agitated but now appears calm and contented.
Communication with the office is excellent, it could not be faulted in any way. This is very reassuring as I live some distance away. When I do visit I am made to feel very welcome and the staff are friendly and attentive. Her room has her own possessions to hand, so it feels like a home from home. Overall I am very happy with Hazelhurst.

My mother was a resident here for only a short time before she passed away. During her time there she was looked after well by the staff. The staff continued to keep me informed to any changes to either my mother or visiting arrangements. I was able to contact them with any queries or concerns about
my mother and they responded accordingly and in a timely fashion. I always found the staff to be friendly and helpful and I was very pleased with the care she received.

Staff are all caring and thoughtful in the ways they support both residents and family. Food in the restaurant is fabulous, varied and nutritious. They have always changed tyres of food to meet the residents needs and accommodated special requests readily. During this difficult time, all the staff have
coped admirably caring for the residents without the physical support of the families.

I almost feel duty-bound to continually convey my sincere thanks to the staff here at Hazlehurst. My wife is currently a resident in receipt of palliative care, which by default, is incredibly challenging for the staff.
The care staff meet these daily and nightly demands continuously with due diligence,
tenderness, attention to detail and absolute sheer professionalism.
Whenever I leave following a visit, I am comforted in the knowledge that my wife is absolutely safe and that to me is paramount.
Being around this lovely house and its gardens bring an ambience of calm and reassurance
Cleanliness and attention to detail are simply a given here, as opposed to an expectation.
Communication and interaction between auxiliary services such as our NHS, social services etc are clear and precise, which results in gold standard administration.
I would proactively recommend this establishment to other families who may be navigating the difficult decisions for a loved one.

I cannot thank every member of staff enough for the dedication, commitment and love they have shown to my Mum throughout the very challenging past twelve months. As a family we too have been supported and found comfort in the knowledge that Mum is being exceptionally well looked after. We have been
encouraged to telephone as often as we like to speak to Mum and regular FaceTime chats have been entertaining! When it has been possible to see Mum, visits were warm and friendly, comfortable and not rushed and the measures put in place to keep Mum safe were very thorough.

Every member of staff is dedicated to the resident's welfare. They are also very aware of the distress to their families during the last 3-4 months. I have received phone calls, cards and letters from staff assuring me my wife is well and safe. The fact the residence was locked down 10-days before the
government's decision to lockdown has prevented and incidents of covid-19; an outstanding result as the local area has been hit hard and badly. Words cannot express the gratitude and love I feel for the "angels" at Hazelhurst, they are heroes and merit recognition for the outstanding care and love that they have shown my wife and me for the last 15-months.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.962)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.962) out of 10 for Hazelhurst Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.987 for Hazelhurst Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (224 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 226 Ratings = 4.987
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hazelhurst Nursing Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
