The thought of my dear mum having to go into a nursing home filled me with horror. But I must say from the moment I came through the door my fears left me.
It is a beautiful place, very, very clean and inviting.
The staff are wonderful and all very friendly. It's still early days but feel my mum will
be well looked after and I have peace of mind.

My wife became a resident on 12th June 2018, little more than a month in which to base this review. We chose Hazelhurst because it was well qualified and staffed to look after my wife, the positive attitude of the managerial staff and the facilities it offered. So far, our hopes and expectations have
been borne out and we are confident that they will continue to be so. However, these are early days.

My father was transferred to Hazelhurst where he spent the last few weeks of his life. I visited several times and always found everything clean and tidy and the staff always seemed happy and occupied with the residents.
My dad was very well cared for despite his challenging health condition and when
the end came, my mother was treated with great kindness and compassion. First impressions are always important: we viewed several Nursing Homes before deciding on Hazelhurst, which right from the start impressed and reassured us. With its glorious gardens too, it is the loveliest of places to spend time whether you are resident there or not.

I have been impressed with the overall standard of care at Hazelhurst Nursing Home. The residents are treated with care, compassion and respect. The attention to detail with the environment - decoration of the interiors and the gardens, especially the amazing ever changing floral displays - fab!

The

continual experimentation in the kitchen addressing the diverse demands of its residents. The afternoon entertainment is varied and inclusive - what I really admire is the positive drive to keep things 'fresh' and the concern for others that the nurses and carers display.

I have been to some care homes to visit but this one is like a 4-star hotel. Staff very good, always someone about. Activities and gardens, by far one of the best care homes I have visited. I have a long time to go yet, but when I need a place, this will be where I want to go.

My mother who is 102 went into Hazelhurst for 2 and a half weeks repsite whilst my husband and I had our annual holiday. She has had respite in other homes and was extremely negative about going anywhere. However, we felt she would be well looked after and although she was openly difficult, when we
left her she received with warmth and understanding. We have had nothing but good reports from everyone who visited while we were away. We were told if she did not like this home, nothing would do. After fetching her home she has nothing negative to say.

My elderly Mother was recently diagnosed with advanced stages of lung and brain cancer that was beyond viable treatment. We chose Hazelhurst as the location for her Palliative care. I cannot say enough good things about the care she received and the support and cooperation we received as immediate family
members. From the minute my Mother arrived the staff at Hazelhurst were phenomenal, they cared for her with dignity, compassion, love and a level of genuine caring that was as if she was their own Mother and always with a smile. There was nothing that she needed or we asked for that was too much trouble. As she declined they made adjustments daily based on her needs and communicated regularly with us. Words cannot describe how grateful we are as a family for the level of care our Mother received from a true team of caring and professional staff. With the deepest appreciation and sincerest thanks.

During my wife's stay at Hazelhurst, I have always found the staff to be friendly and approachable when making enquiries on routine matters or regarding her behaviour/contentedness when I am not there.
Everything is done by the staff to enable my wife to be settled and cared for in her new environment.
She
is treated with dignity in an informal and relaxed manner and is encouraged to participate in the numerous activities available.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.962) out of 10 for Hazelhurst Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.987 for Hazelhurst Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (224 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 226 Ratings = 4.987
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hazelhurst Nursing Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
