Reviews

9.5 Norton Hall Nursing Home has a Review Score of 9.5 (9.471)

The Review Score of 9.5 (maximum of 10) for Norton Hall Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 17 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Norton Hall Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.665 for Norton Hall Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (137 Excellents x 5) + (59 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 200 Ratings = 4.665

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.806 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Norton Hall Nursing Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 6.2 positive Reviews (31 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 5 Reviews ÷ 6.2 Target = 0.806

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My father admitted himself to Norton Hall as he knew he was suffering from terminal lung cancer. He believed his last days/weeks/months would be more comfortable for all - he didn't want to burden his wife any further.
The care he received in his last months of life could not have been better. His needs were put first and the manager and superb staff worked endlessly to put his care plan in action. The staff displayed over and above care and support to my father, my mother and myself.
Totally recommended.

We got our Father into Norton Hall after hospital discharge, as his previous home was unable to take him back. At Norton Hall, Dad was always clean, well presented, shaved and dressed. Despite Dad's dementia and inability to verbally communicate, the carers always spoke to him and treated him with respect.

We were relieved that we had found such a warm and caring environment for dad to stay, albeit for just a short period. The level of care dad received here should be the benchmark for all homes. Sadly, that is not our experience.

A Doughty, Care manager at Norton Hall Nursing Home responded to this review on 12 Apr 2017:

With some bad publicity in the care home sector, it is refreshing and appreciated that all the care and support we give our clients is acknowledged. Our aim is to ensure that relatives loved ones are cared for in a safe and homely environment with dignity and respect.

Norton Hall is an old building but very well maintained rooms are small although they have some big ones. The manager and her staff are amazing. Kind, friendly and so helpful not just the residents but family and visitors alike. My husband really enjoyed his stay I would really recommend anyone to stay. Well done all and thank you.

My mother was in Norton Hall for five months.
The care and kindness she received there was excellent, nothing was every too much trouble for the manageress and her staff. My mum never wanted to eat, but the staff always encouraged her to drink and helped her with her meals whenever I visited, the atmosphere and staff were always happy. Although my mum would say no to doing any activities, she was always encouraged to try and join in. Mum was always dressed lovely with her hair neatly combed. My mum passed away in December and the support we received and the palliative care given to my mum by the staff was wonderful. Would highly recommend.

Norton Hill Nursing Home is a small care home where my brother-in-law stayed for six months. We were impressed by the helpful, cheerful staff who were extremely responsive to any issues we raised.
We saw regular varied activities taking place and felt our relatives dignity was respected at all times.
They managed his changing condition very proactively and we have been pleased with all their staff.

I was taken to Norton Hall after spending about 6 weeks in hospital, I then had about 8 weeks in Norton Hall. I was very well cared for and the manager was excellent in her care for me as I was very stressed and feeling down. All the staff used to come into my room and cheer me up.
It has taken me 2 years to go back to see them as I don't drive but a friend took me there to see them. I was welcomed back with a warm welcome. It is even nicer there now as the home has had a makeover, if every I have to go into a nursing home, I would go there!!

Have been coming to the care home for over 10 years. First with my Mother and Father as residents and then as a friend who plays cards with those who are able. When my parents were there the care and support was excellent. The building did go down a little after they passed away but the staff were extremely kind. I kept coming to visit people and have a laugh. This last year everything has improved tremendously. The staff all seem much happier and the accommodation is very good. The food is excellent.

I went to check out Norton Hall on 7/4/2016. Prior to this my mother had been in an A & E, having had a very rapid downward spiral of health due to Lewy Body Dementia while in there. Results came through from a previous scan and showed mum had only about 8 weeks to live after being diagnosed with colon cancer. Arriving at Norton Hall, very much impressed with what I saw. Mum went into their care for 2 weeks 7/4/16 to 24/4/16. She was treated with respect and love and lots of cuddles (perfect for her). From 24/4/16 until her death on 29/4/16, staff were wonderful, giving palliative care until the end. Mum was still tended beautifully, hair brushed, nails painted, all the things that mattered to her.

The care and kindness shown to my uncle in his 3 week stay at Norton Hall was fantastic. On his admittance for respite they had no information given to them on his needs or capabilities but as soon as we informed them they wasted no time in implementing them. The manageress was a very hands on type working with her staff. Nothing was too much trouble. As visitors we were treated more like guests at a hotel. Any queries she was always there to discuss with us. Very approachable and easy to talk to helping in any way she could with advice etc. We felt as with all the staff they were friends and in a way it was quite sad to say goodbye when he left.

We found Norton Hall to be a warm 'homely' home in a lovely setting. On every visit we made we found the staff to be friendly, kind and welcoming. The care manager was always professional, compassionate, kind and most helpful. My mother's care was excellent and was tailored to meet her individual needs. My thanks go the manager and her team.

I only visited this lady once, as she had only just been admitted, and died (expected) a few days later. In this short time I observed great care and attention shown to all residents (clients). Their professional attitude to all who visited and spoke on the telephone was first class. I have worked in the NHS for 37 years and have a good knowledge of all types of care homes.

My parents-in-law both used Norton Hall Care Home from June 2015 - November 2015. They were both cared for extremely well and were happy in their new home.
The staff were always very cheerful and kind on my many visits to them.
When we were choosing a home for them we put a lot of thought into what they needed and have been very pleased with our choice.
A very caring nursing home which I would recommend!

My wife and I visit my aunt every week at Norton Hall. She is always very clean and well dressed. Her room is always immaculate and smells fresh as is the entire nursing home. I have personal experience of three previous care/nursing homes in the Worcestershire area where my aunt stayed. I can say that the care and conditions were inferior to those at Norton Hall. The manager and her staff do an excellent job in caring for their patients.

My husband and I have always found the staff to be very approachable and friendly. The staff do not seem to find anything too much trouble and make themselves available to address any queries or concerns. We have been very pleased with the more recent changes to the environment for the residents. The alterations, new furniture and decoration have greatly improved the feel of the home. My aunt settled in well and says the time passes quickly, even though she was not keen to become a resident. She enjoys the activities on offer. The outside of the building has also been much enhanced as it has been painted and the gardens attended to, making them a pleasant area for residents.
