I have been more than disappointed with the care given to my mum this past five months. Issues that were raised were never addressed until social services became involved regarding safeguarding. My mum is now being moved to a different nursing home as the manager showed no compassion at all towards
the issues raised.
Waiting 1hr 50 minutes to go to the toilet, left for 50 minutes on a commode unattended and not given sufficient pain relief when requested and no referral made to the hospice until ten weeks after the original request was supposed to have been done. It has caused my mum and myself severe distress.
Bad reviews from other families have been removed from social media. This is typical of the home as they choose to ignore issues and complaints rather than addressing them.
Some of the staff have been lovely and caring but the management has been terrible at addressing any issues.
Reply from Alex Hartles, Operations Manager at Autumn House Nursing HomeDear Clare
As a care provider, we always try to deliver quality care for residents and families, I apologise to your mom and you if this has not been the case.
I genuinely feel Autumn House is an excellent nursing home that is well run by management, from time to time there will be issues that are raised but in general terms, these are few and far between.
There was an incident with your mom where she was waiting to use the toilet, management apologised for this and made sure staff were aware of the seriousness of this incident. A meeting was held with yourself and the management to discuss and rectify this issue.
I do not agree with other aspects of what you state in your review.
It was Autumn House that informed the safeguarding team as part of the nursing home's policy.
Pain relief was given as instructed by the G.P.
Complaints/issues are listened to and followed through vigorously and with transparency.
Social media reviews are opinionated and do not contain the facts.

Since moving into Autumn House dad is more relaxed and much happier. The staff are lovely and do a great job of looking after him. Throughout the difficulties due to the pandemic, staff have done their best to ensure things run as smoothly as possible and we greatly appreciate their care and dedication.

This month I have been able to visit my sister along with her husband, although she has lost some weight she looks well and content, her room is a good size and has a large window which makes it light and airy. She has been pleased to see me on each visit and has always given me a big smile. The staff
I have so far met have been pleasant and have also greeted me with a ready smile. I am happy that my sister is being well cared for.

I can only praise all the staff here, myself and my family knew that especially throughout this difficult time that my father would be looked after and although it has been torture not being able to visit, our minds were put at rest knowing dad was under their care. The staff are always very courteous
and caring.
Reply from Alex Hartles, PA to Directors at Autumn House Nursing HomeThank you for the lovely words towards the staff and home. We are sorry that the covid led to not being able to visit your father but we do hope some of the methods we put in place did help slightly, even though it was far from ideal. Thank you for showing the home support over this extremely difficult period. Best Wishes Alex Hartles.

My mom was diagnosed with 2 brain tumours and needed 24-hour nursing care, she had never been away from home on her own in the 51 years she was married. The staff at Autumn House were amazing in making her feel at home, helping her with all her needs (not just medical help but emotional care as well),
giving her hugs and love at a time when we as a family can't visit due to Covid. Not only do the staff look after my mom but they always have time for me and to answer any questions.
Reply from Alex Hartles, PA to Directors at Autumn House Nursing HomeThank you so much for this lovely review of Autumn House. It is really great to hear that all your mom's needs are achieved, and the kind words towards the team really do go a long way. We hope that as restrictions ease that more of your family can come to visit. Thank you for all your kindness and support. Best Wishes Alex Hartles.

Very difficult to review as have not been able to enter the home until this month, but it does appear that Mum has been very well looked after and entertained well. The home has some excellent, reliable, and devoted staff who deserve our sincere thanks. I don't know about the food and drink as I don't
see what she eats. Hoping to be able to have more visits soon and to be able to bring in her new great-grandchild and dog.
Reply from Alex Hartles, PA to Directors at Autumn House Nursing HomeThank you for reviewing Autumn House Nursing Home. Dad arrived at Autumn House from hospital during Covid in 2020. We weren't allowed to visit or settle him in. The activities staff were amazing and ensured we had regular Skype calls so we could monitor him. The nursing staff updated me when there were any serious issues and I have always felt comforted
by the overall approach of the admin staff. I had to put blind faith in Autumn House but they seem to have delivered in these very trying, difficult times.

Mum was placed here from hospital and was placed on the residential floor at first. She was very unsettled at first but then was moved up to the nursing floor where she settled down straight away. The care she has had has been very good so far. The only problem is that she's had a few falls. I've been
kept informed of any health concerns most of the time. A few niggles but the staff are very helpful. In particular, the activities coordinator who sadly left.
Reply from Alex Hartles, PA to Directors at Autumn House Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to write this kind review about Autumn House Nursing Home. We are glad to hear that your mum has settled down after being moved to the nursing floor and that the care being received is of a high quality. However, we are sorry to hear about your mum's falls but we hope the home has found a solution to prevent this from happening again and that the home continues to communicate clearly with you. Any issues please do not hesitate to contact management or Head Office. Best Wishes Alex Hartles.

Mum was brought to Autumn House for her end of life care. I cannot thank the care staff enough for the kindness, compassion and dignity they showed her in the short time she was there. My husband and I were also treated so well. The kindness we were shown was beyond any expectations. I'm sorry Mum could
not have been at Autumn House for a longer period of time as it was an absolute pleasure to visit there. We will miss the staff there, in the short period of time there we made special friends.
Thank you all so very much, you are very special people and Autumn House is a very special place, you are all worth you're weight in gold. Bless you all.

What a wonderful place. Having moved my mother here from another home, let’s say this is like a five-star hotel. She has a lovely room with her own toilet which she didn’t have before. The care is excellent there are plenty of staff on and always at hand if she needs anything. She is kept clean and
tidy and is treated with dignity. She is in a safe and happy environment and well cared for. Well done and thank you to all the staff.

My mum had to go in for respite, her diet was very poor and the catering staff were very good at catering for her needs sometimes, cooking special meals for her. The care staff were very supportive and helpful and information was passed to me promptly if I asked. I would highly recommend this home.
The new owners are making great leaps in getting the home up to a very high standard and are on hand to talk to.

My sister, a wheelchair bound stroke victim, always feels safe here: she says on returning and seeing familiar faces of staff and residents, "Ah, home again!" Earlier this year she was listened to in a difficult situation when, because of her disability, her views might have been discounted; the same
goes for when she speaks up at Resident and Staff Meetings.
Now she is terminally ill, she has expressly stated her wish to spend her last days here. Her care is professional but personalised; it is careful and loving. I, as her next of kin, feel great confidence in Autumn House.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.862)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.862) out of 10 for Autumn House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.962 for Autumn House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (177 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 184 Ratings = 4.962
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Autumn House Nursing Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
