My husband has been a resident of Briar Hill House, Rugeley and I have nothing but praise for the staff, especially during the past year when we have been unable to visit. I phone the home each week and they are very helpful and friendly and let me know how my husband is doing.

My cousin has been in this home for 14 years and he has had the most wonderful care. Because his son is in Australia it falls to the carers to provide him with all the necessary support and I believe they have gone over and above what would be expected of them.

Briar Hill was able to offer us an absolute lifeline in providing nursing care for my mother-in-law. Under extremely difficult circumstances and on a tight time scale they were able to offer us advice and support in the first instance and then care in the second instance. The process of her moving in
was humane and brilliantly organised to ensure the least upset for her and for us, her family. While there, every effort was made for us to see her as much as possible once quarantine was completed. I was able to visit in a special room, and staff made themselves available to support us Face-timing her. At the and of her life we were able to be with her as much as we could. Staff were caring and compassionate and I can say with my hand on my heart that she was genuinely loved while she was there. What could have been a horrific ordeal was as good as it possibly could be. Every single member of staff was an absolute credit to the organisation. We cannot recommend Briar Hill highly enough.

Thank you to all the staff at Briar Hill for looking after me so well during my week here. Everyone has been so friendly and greeted me with a smile. My father-in-law has only been in Briar Hill a week after transferring him from another care home. The difference in him is amazing, he’s put weight on (after losing so much weight), more alert, trying to talk, smiling and much more. We are all so pleased with his care here, wish we had found Briar
Hill much earlier.
The food always looks and smells delicious just like proper home-cooked food should. All the staff are friendly and very caring, with a lot of staff having worked there for years which tells you something.
Plenty of musical entertainment going on as well.
His room was newly decorated for his arrival along with new furniture. Most important point for me is it doesn’t smell!

Thank you for your wonderful review; it has been heart-warming to see such a change in your father-in-law in such a short time. It's times like this that make caring so rewarding, and he has such a lovely smile. I will make sure your very kind words are shared with the whole staff team.

Impressed! I have visited many homes but this is the best. Immaculate. No smells. What impressed me the most were the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. They were friendly, smiling, most wonderful to see and hear was how they were with the residents. It was lovely to see how they were so kind to them.
A really good calmness in the home. The staff all seemed so happy to be at work. I can only imagine the person who runs the home is an amazing person.

My much loved mum came into Briar Hill from another nursing home which did not meet her needs. After only a few days with the very attentive and loving staff here the difference in my mum was clear to see.
After only two weeks the staff had to take my mums photograph again!
The staff not only look
after the resident but the family as well. There is always a cuppa on offer.
I can't thank this FANTASTIC team enough, they have brought my mum back to us.
A MASSIVE MASSIVE THANK YOU.

My 95 year old non-verbal father was admitted to Briar Hill House after a seven week stay in hospital after falling and breaking his hip. The staff at Briar Hill, from nurses, carers, administration, maintenance and management went above and beyond to make Dad, who was initially very frightened and
confused, feel safe and comfortable. They also made the family very welcome and were attentive to our needs and ready to answer any questions at a moments notice. I am so glad that Dad got to spend the last week of his life at such an excellent place... which of course is made so by all that work there.
Our heartfelt thanks to them all.

Our mother was transferred to Briar Hill from hospital for palliative care in early January 2019. From the moment mom arrived at Briar Hill she was treated with such kindness and dignity. The staff are extremely professional and knowledgeable and we felt mom was in safe hands. The staff not only took
care of mom but also supported her sons and daughters through what has been an emotional and painful time. Mom passed away with all 4 of her children at her side, the staff were brilliant and ensured mom was comfortable and us four were supported throughout the whole process. Mom was never left by her children for the 2 weeks she was there, they remained day and night so we got to see first hand every day how hard the staff work, how happy the atmosphere is and how well run the home is.
Thank you Briar Hill staff you made the last 2 weeks with mom so much bearable and that's something we can take comfort from.

Our Mum was admitted to Briar Hill on 5 December 2018 for end of life care. The staff were wonderful and welcoming, even letting her pet budgie out. Mum was only there for less than a week before she peacefully passed away but was treated with the utmost care and kindness, as were we, her daughters.
Briar Hill is very clean and comfortable and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anybody looking for quality care for themselves or members of their family. We were allowed to visit Mum at any time of day or night and stay as long as we wanted. Thank you for making her last days as comfortable as possible and her end as dignified and peaceful as it was. I have put don't know for the activities as Mum was bedridden and unable to eat or take part in anything. However, we were allowed to help ourselves to tea and coffee and offered meals if we wanted them.

Excellent care of my mother who entered the home with only weeks to live and an incurable lung disease. With excellent care and kind attention and excellent nourishment, my mother survived for 3 years with a good quality of life, with encouragement to eat and enjoy activities. She gained weight and
confidence. She sadly passed away this year, but this care enabled us to have our Mum longer than we first throughout. Sadly the illness took her in the end. Excellent staff with very kind hearts.

Dad's stay at Briar Hill was only three days. Despite this, it was immediately obvious how caring and professional the team were. On arrival, he was met by a team of six with the necessary equipment for a safe transfer. The home was clean, bright and residents looked comfortable and relaxed in the lounge.
The manager was thoughtful and showed sensitivity to dad's needs and those of our family. His passing was dignified and communicated with compassion.

This home served our father especially well.

Several members of our family have worked in the care business for many years, including as inspectors, and could not find fault with any aspect of the service. The manager sets high standards and goes above and beyond what is necessary.

Our father

could be highly critical of others, so it says a lot that he got on so well with the staff.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.803)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.803) out of 10 for Briar Hill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.903 for Briar Hill House is calculated as follows: ( (94 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 103 Ratings = 4.903
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Briar Hill House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
