My mother was admitted due to dementia while my father was in hospital. He subsequently became a resident in his final weeks of life.
My father's care was excellent, as was how the team communicated with me (I am overseas) after his death. My mother's well-being appears to be well managed and I have
no concerns over how she is looked after. When anything has been amiss, the team have communicated effectively.
Reply from Simon Dixey, Home Manager at Manor House Nursing HomeThank you for your kind review. We are very pleased that you felt your father received excellent care during his time with us and that our team were able to support. It is also reassuring to hear that your mother's wellbeing continues to be well-managed. Your feedback means a great deal to the team, and we will continue to do everything we can to provide compassionate, person-centred care.

My Brother in law started living here in September for safe guarding following being failed by a care company in the community . He is a major amputee with most of his right side missing below the ribs. He was welcomed in a friendly manor by staff, and is and has enjoyed his stay building up friendships
with many of them. He is a smoker and has a ground floor room with his own door into the garden so he can go out whenever he needs to. His meds have been had a revue and is in a better place because of this as his pain management is under control at last, thanks to the nursing team working with his doctor. He has is own TV which the militance team sorted for him as it is a large one.
He is a vegetarian and is hard to feed as he doesn't like many vegetables. He has his own fridge, this has allowed for family to work with the catering staff and supply foods that he likes to go along with what they produce. Has gained weight which is another positive.
His mental health improved 10 fold.
Reply from Simon Dixey, Home Manager at Manor House Nursing HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share this. Your words truly mean a great deal to the whole team.
It has been a privilege to support your brother-in-law, to help him feel safe, valued and settled. Seeing him build friendships, regain stability with his pain management, gain weight and improve in himself is exactly why we do what we do.
I will make sure your kind feedback is shared with all the team.

Mum happy and is very well looked after. She is content and has formed good relationships with all the staff, who are very friendly and thoughtful she has also made some new friends in the other residents. The staff have an excellent understanding of her needs and also of her likes and dislikes. She
loves the visit from the various animals, dog, alpaca and ponies she was even allowed to say good bye to her cat before it was remhomed. She keeps herself busy knitting and other needle crafts as well as reading and puzzles. She has lots of visitors from church and choir, as well as family. We have been able to hold family gatherings in The community hub which means although mum is " in care" she isn't isolated. We have also been able to take her out for short trips too.
One improvement I would like to suggest is the community hub needs a piano! We are a very musical family and mum, and possibly other residents might enjoy hearing little concerts from us.
Reply from Simon Dixey, Home Manager at Manor House Nursing HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share such a lovely and thoughtful review. It means a great deal to our team to know that your mum feels happy, settled and well supported, and we are really pleased she has built such positive relationships with both staff and other residents.

Thank you also for your suggestion about a piano for the Hub. This is a fantastic idea and something we will certainly explore, as we always welcome opportunities to enhance meaningful activities and shared experiences for residents and families.

Fantastic service from a truly dedicated team of people - nothing was too much trouble. My father was only there a few weeks at the end of his life, but he had been previously for respite care, and there was nowhere else he wanted to be. My fathers passing was with dignity and love.

I cannot walk or stand. Staff are kind, and compassionate and willing to help in various ways. Food is good but would be better with less stodgy cake and more fresh fruit. Choice is good and if neither options suits, an alternative salad is produced instead. My clothing is washed by my daughter, who
lives nearest me. My sons visit when they can, as they live much further away. My husband, who has 2 broken hips, visits when he can. He lives alone about 1/2 mile from Manor Home.

The home provides a welcome and comforting atmosphere. First impression on entering positive and translate it consistent and thoughtful care. Staff are friendly and approachable and share a strong ethic - frequently stepping out of their prescribed roles to offer any holistic approach. I consider ourselves
most fortunate to be granted care at this institution.

I am very pleased with the level of care and professionalism shown by the staff at this care home. Everyone is kind, patient, and genuinely attentive, always taking the time to ensure residents feel comfortable, respected, and well looked after. The environment is clean, welcoming, and calm, which makes

Manor House is a calm, caring, immaculately clean and well-led home. The staff are kind and very good at communicating with residents and their families. The staff are always smart and friendly, and they always seem joyful in their manner and several speak of their own experiences inspiring them to
do this job. Families are always encouraged to contribute thoughts when care plans are drawn up. Dad's dementia is the aggressive, pacing type. He is only ever met with kindness. He is never left alone. If he wonders, the staff go too. Accompanied on hospital visits. Comforted when upset. We can only speak of Manor House in the highest terms.

My grandad has been on dunston for over two years now and I can't express was a lovely care home this is. They truly care about their residents the carers themselves are a blessing and the continuity the residents receives ensure that they've built relationship and trust. Myself and my family have no
complaints the residents get fair share of activities everyday and the best care. This is my grandads fourth care home and despite his dementia they've managed his behaviour so well that he's the best behaved he's been in the last four years he's put weight on and his memory hasn't declined if anything slightly improved. Any medical issues the nursing staff report and over winter he's had one chest infection in the last two years which compared to previously he'd have one in every month in winter. Thankyou to all the staff and your advocation for my grandad it's truly seen and appreciated by our family.

After a failed hospital discharge and horrendous experience of care at home, we placed Dad at Manor for a 2 week respite period to focus on him getting better and to recover from the traumatic experience. The care of my mother, provided by the staff at the home during her last days of life, was excellent. As close relatives concerned for her welfare, we could not have asked for more consideration, compassion, and involvement than that provided by all members of the team.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.390)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.390) out of 10 for Manor House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.785 for Manor House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (158 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 200 Ratings = 4.785
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.605 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Manor House Nursing Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 125 registered maximum number of service users is 25. 17 Positive Reviews ÷ 25 = 0.68
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Simon

Simon Dixey

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2025

Hello, I’m Simon, a qualified nurse with over two decades of experience across health and social care, including learning disabilities, mental health, and dementia care. As a dedicated Home Manager, I’m passionate about leading teams, driving service improvements, and ensuring every individual receives care that is person-centred, safe, and delivered with compassion.

Outside of work, I’m a proud father to four daughters and share my home with three energetic pugs—Boe, Bear and Betty—who certainly keep life interesting. You’ll often find me with my family cheering on Stafford Rangers, travelling home and away to support the team. I’d like to think I have an approachable nature, a good sense of humour, and a strong commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

Jennie

Jennie Loraso

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2025

My name is Jennie I have been in post as Deputy Manager at The Manor House since July 2025. I thoroughly enjoy working as part of our community with our residents, diverse nursing team and caring and friendly staff.

I qualified as an RNLD in 2016, after studying at Keele University. I was attracted to nursing because I have always enjoyed caring for and nurturing others, building connections and making a positive contribution to others' lives, and have a strong desire to make a difference.

Before qualifying, I worked for a number of years as a health care support worker for people with learning disabilities and older adults with dementia. When I qualified, I worked as a community nurse within the Community Mental Health Team, before working in nursing homes.

I initially began working in a nursing home setting after being drawn to providing long-term care to people, getting to know them for who they are as individuals, and developing lasting therapeutic relationships. I particularly enjoy supporting people at the end of their lives and providing palliative care.

After 4 years as a staff nurse, I began working as a clinical lead for a further 4 years, ensuring that high standards of nursing care and clinical practice were maintained within the home. I have worked in nursing homes for the last 8 years.

In my spare time, I love spending quality time with my 3 children, baking (and eating!) cakes, spending time outdoors and eating out
