Lawton Rise is a purpose-built specialist nursing centre for residents living with dementia and cognitive impairment – situated close to the amenities of Goldenhill, near Stoke on Trent. The 62 bedrooms, mostly en-suite, are all equipped for those requiring advanced dementia nursing. With the first floor rooms catering for less mobile residents who require a greater level of care, carers think carefully about the type of room each resident needs.

Lawton Rise is designed, furnished, decorated and operated according to best practice from specialist researchers into dementia. The interior design of the home minimises the distress that can be caused by loss of memory, confusion and problems with speech and understanding.

Set across two floors, the home has four lounges, kitchenettes and dining areas. Residents live in small groups having individual lounge and dining areas, ensuring familiar faces and continuity of care. Both ground floor lounges open onto a safe, enclosed dementia garden and on the first floor, there is an indoor garden area. The home even has its own pub – The Lawton Arms – a private bar for residents of the home. The enclosed garden has plenty of seating and a water feature - perfect for relaxing outdoors.

Regular activities are planned by the activities coordinator to keep residents stimulated and engaged. Residents and their families are encouraged to make suggestions, which will be met if possible.

Meals are prepared by trained chefs, who provide a variety of fresh, nutritional, and tasty meals to a daily menu. Special dietary requirements will be met.

My dad receives excellent care at Lawton Rise. He is always clean in fresh clothes and the carers all know him well. Sometimes he has to be coaxed to eat and they will make sure that he does, often sitting with him. We are always made to feel welcome as visitors especially mum who visits dad regularly.
There are plenty of activities to stimulate the residents and the co-ordinators for activities are brilliant. We are so glad dad was placed there because we don't have to worry about his care and well-being at all.

A wonderful home. Well run, efficient and caring environment. Staff are amazing from management, carers, nursing staff, housekeeping, catering, activities & maintenance! My Gran was a resident at Lawnton Rise for a number of years. The care provided to her was outstanding.
My Gran was always clean, well dressed and so very well looked after - this was always one of the issues that my Gran worried about in the early days of her dementia, she wanted to be clean.
Hydration was always available to her, and staff always provided prompts and assistance with food when needed. You could visit at any time and everything was as you'd hope it could be.
Staff were always on hand to ask any questions, and it was clear that they knew everything about my Gran and her needs, you can clearly tell that they care. Nothing is ever too much trouble, and the staff will go above and beyond to assist and reassure you. What more can you wish for?
I cannot offer enough praise and thanks to all at Lawton Rise. Thank you for making my Gran's final years comfortable and peaceful.

My family and I were extremely impressed with the level of care given to my wife while in Barchester Lawton Rise Care Home. The staff, from front of house to carers and nurses, were excellent. We knew my wife was well looked after. There were regular updates on food and fluid intake and of any health
issues that occurred. My family and I were looked after as well when there. I would recommend this home to anyone who wants to see their relative treated with care, respect and dignity. Unable to comment on activities for patients as my wife was bedbound and unable to take part. Otherwise, excellent.

My mum was in Bachester Lawton Rise for 20 months. She was always clean, tidy and well dressed. She passed away in October 2024. The nursing staff and carers provided professional excellent care for the whole of her stay. The staff always kept me well informed on her progress. All the staff are caring,
compassionate and kind. When I visited, the administration staff were always warm and welcoming. The housekeeping staff do a marvellous job with laundry and keeping the home well maintained and clean. The catering staff provide good quality food and make residents a cake for birthday celebrations. A big thank you to all the staff.

Mum spent the last few weeks of her life at Barchester Lawton Rise Care Home in Goldenhill, following a few months in hospital.
The care she received at Lawton Rise was outstanding in every way.
Despite having dementia and complex physical needs, the staff got to know Mum very well and they were exemplary
in their care of both her physical and emotional needs.
Sadly, her health issues resulted in her death but as a family, we are all confident that Mum could not have been anywhere better at the end of her life.
Every single member of staff at the home went above and beyond our expectations and not only did they care for Mum at the end of her life with compassion, they also showed immense empathy towards us, her family, as we came to terms with Mum's deteriorating health.
We cannot praise them highly enough and thank them for making the last few weeks of Mum's life as comfortable as possible.

Absolutely outstanding care received by my mother from a wonderful, caring, compassionate, professional team. The transfer from home to permanent care was smooth and efficient, we were kept updated every step of the way and supported throughout this procedure. The staff, as a whole, are truly amazing.
I knew, without a doubt, my mother was very much cared for as if she was their own parent. The environment is relaxed and wholesome with many activities for the residents to enjoy. Even though my mother was in late-stage dementia, I know she was contented in their care. They definitely deserve some sort of reward for their kindness and professionalism. I can't thank them enough.

The care and compassion given by all of the staff at Barchester Lawton Rise Care Home goes above and beyond. The staff always take the time to chat and offer anything needed even though they are always on the go. From entering the home, it is a warm, welcoming beautiful place, there is always refreshments
offered on arrival, it is very clean and well maintained. If I ever have to ask the staff about anything, they always take the time to answer fully and confidently and make sure I fully understand and am happy with their response. We always look forward to visiting days and can rest easily knowing that everyone working at Lawton has the well being of all residents as their priority. My mum was in Barchester Lawton Rise Care Home from August 2019 until her recent death due to her deteriorating dementia. I can honestly say that my family and I are truly blessed to have had such committed, professional and caring staff take care of Mum. Communication throughout her stay has been excellent
and it gave me peace of mind to know that she was so happy and settled. The staff all work so well as a team, like cogs of a wheel. I can't express my thanks and gratitude to them enough for making both Mum and our family so welcome and for taking such excellent care of her. I will continue to recommend Lawton Rise for anyone seeking care for their loved one.

This is Mum's second care home and I am so happy that she moved here. The staff are very friendly and genuinely care for the residents. The facilities are second to none and they arrange lots of activities for the residents and families to participate in. I know Mum is getting the best care here.

Barchester Lawton Rise Care Home has given my father the best care imaginable since April 2023. They've made my dad feel home from home and have easily catered for his complex dementia needs. His medication has been regulated successfully and the services offered such as artwork, Christmas cards and
guest singers are exemplary. Moreover, the 3-course meals given every day are 4-star standard.

Our mum has been a resident at Lawton Rise for a number of years. There is a variety of good food for residents, but sadly our mum’s dementia has got a lot worse and now she does not eat much. Bedroom is bright, airy and warm. Staff offer good interaction with Mum, as she is very active, even at 89.
Lawton Rise usually respond to any concerns that I have, regardless of how minor they are. My mum has always been clean and well cared for. The home lets me know what is happening and keeps me up to date with any incidents or changes to her care, they are always friendly and welcoming.

My partner has been a resident at Lawton Rise for twenty months now. He always appears settled and trusting of the staff. I personally always feel welcomed and it's good to have a friendly chat with the staff and other residents. The meals always look appetizing. The residents' clothes are well cared

A very good afternoon. My wife has been a resident of Lawton Rise for over five years. I find the home to be very well run, and from the management down, very helpful and most obliging. If I have any problems, they are great at sorting out any problems, not that I can remember any such occasions arising
for a long time. I would like to praise four members firstly, the manager, secondly the assistant manager, thirdly and last but not least is the administration lady, but I must say all the staff are without a doubt first class.

My mum was in Lawton Rise for 4 years she passed away in November 2022. The care she had while in there was exceptional the staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. They treat their residents as if they were their own family. They always put a smile on Mum's face, we knew she was well
taken care of, you worry about them but we knew she was fine. There was always something going on to entertain them, music afternoons singers would come in. The staff always kept me well informed on how she was. The staff are absolutely brilliant, one member of staff was mum's main carer, you start off as strangers and end up being part of one big family can not praise them enough.

We were welcomed immediately by a fabulous member of staff. She took us to see our aunt. Then, she found a beautiful empty sitting room where we could chat. She even brought tea, coffee and biscuits, which was so lovely. Our aunt is very happy! The facility is beautiful, clean and immaculate. Congratulations.

Hi, my name is Jennifer and I am the General Manager here at Lawton Rise.


I have worked at Lawton Rise since March 2018 and started my career here as a night nurse, progressing to Clinical Lead, Deputy Manager and then the Manager’s position in October 2019. I have recently supported the home through a CQC inspection achieving a rating of ‘Good’.


After completing my Adult Nursing Degree in 2015 I worked in Acute Medicine and Emergency and Trauma Nursing in the NHS before moving to Lawton Rise, my experience in these areas have proved essential in ensuring that the clinical aspect of our resident's care is met. I have always felt very passionate about dementia care and during my time working in Acute Medicine in Manchester, I became a Dementia Champion and Dementia Lead for the Acute Medical Unit.


I am passionate about Person-Centred Dementia and Nursing care and feel that my approachable attitude and knowledge about the home and our residents have a positive impact on our team, relatives and healthcare professionals.

My name is Clare Dudley, and I am a Registered Mental Health Nurse with a lifelong passion for providing care and support. I began working in care at the age of 18 and have specialised with Dementia care since 1997, I completed my nurse training in 2010 and have experience as a home manager in a residential EMI home, then progressing to nursing homes. I found Lawton Rise in 2018 and this is where my real journey started.

I also perform show-rounds, support the team with day-to-day tasks and answer phone enquiries.
