Lawton Rise is a purpose-built specialist nursing centre for residents living with dementia and cognitive impairment – situated close to the amenities of Goldenhill, near Stoke on Trent. The 62 bedrooms, mostly en-suite, are all equipped for those requiring advanced dementia nursing. With the first floor rooms catering for less mobile residents who require a greater level of care, carers think carefully about the type of room each resident needs.

Lawton Rise is designed, furnished, decorated and operated according to best practice from specialist researchers into dementia. The interior design of the home minimises the distress that can be caused by loss of memory, confusion and problems with speech and understanding.

Set across two floors, the home has four lounges, kitchenettes and dining areas. Residents live in small groups having individual lounge and dining areas, ensuring familiar faces and continuity of care. Both ground floor lounges open onto a safe, enclosed dementia garden and on the first floor, there is an indoor garden area. The home even has its own pub – The Lawton Arms – a private bar for residents of the home. The enclosed garden has plenty of seating and a water feature - perfect for relaxing outdoors.

Regular activities are planned by the activities coordinator to keep residents stimulated and engaged. Residents and their families are encouraged to make suggestions, which will be met if possible.

Meals are prepared by trained chefs, who provide a variety of fresh, nutritional, and tasty meals to a daily menu. Special dietary requirements will be met.

My mum was in Lawton Rise for 4 years she passed away in November 2022. The care she had while in there was exceptional the staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. They treat their residents as if they were their own family. They always put a smile on Mum's face, we knew she was well
taken care of, you worry about them but we knew she was fine. There was always something going on to entertain them, music afternoons singers would come in. The staff always kept me well informed on how she was. The staff are absolutely brilliant, one member of staff was mum's main carer, you start off as strangers and end up being part of one big family can not praise them enough.

We were welcomed immediately by a fabulous member of staff. She took us to see our aunt. Then, she found a beautiful empty sitting room where we could chat. She even brought tea, coffee and biscuits, which was so lovely. Our aunt is very happy! The facility is beautiful, clean and immaculate. Congratulations.

My mum moved here in November 22, and sadly things went from bad to worse with her. She came as a falls risk needing (according to her notes) 1.1 care. She wasn’t assessed in hospital, they said due to covid but was none on the ward.
In the 9 days she was there she had 19 falls again due to no 1.1
care, this resulted in another hospital stay.
Dec 22 she was assessed (while covid was on the ward) and although nothing apart from the falls had changed they decided she couldn’t return. Why have her in the first place? A proper assessment should have been done in Nov (they were told of the challenges Mum had). No call bell in room. Mum was let down big time. The evidence of bruising is heartbreaking. I sadly would not recommend here at all. Management would not return calls or speak to me. The rooms are beautiful, the grounds are beautiful, but that's the only plus to it.

I have visited my grandad at the care home, several times and not consistently at the same time. The home was always very clean and tidy and the staff was very welcoming. It gives you such ease to enter a strange place but feel so welcome. My grandad's room looked amazing with all his pictures in place
and so homely. I would recommend Lawton Rise to anyone.

All the staff at Lawton Rise Care Home are unfailingly welcoming, smiling and cheerful. If a problem does arise it is immediately listened to and addressed at the time, if possible, or referred to the appropriate person. The earlier general refurbishment has made all the difference to the more homely
feel and standard of surroundings. We look forward to the continuation of the plan. There are times when unfamiliar staff assigned to the unit is unsettling for the residents.

From day one, up to the present time. I could not have wished for a more professional, extremely caring and welcoming care home for my beloved wife to be a resident in. Her care has been first-rate and the staff have always been both gracious to me and to my wife. I cannot thank them enough.

My mum came here on an assessment bed from a hospital 20 miles away due to her worsening dementia and increase in hospital admissions due to falls. I was so worried that she wasn't on the doorstep but soon realised after conversations with the home manager, who put me at ease and showed great empathy
for my situation, that she would, at last, be safe for a while. My darling mum has now been in the home for 6 weeks and is a different person. I will be forever grateful to the whole team at Lawton Rise for their dedicated and compassionate work helping my mum and the other lovely people living their lives with dementia. An incredible place which I couldn't have wished harder to exist! Thank you from the bottom of mine, my families but most importantly, my mum's heart.

We have been delighted with how well Dad has been cared for by all the staff at Lawton Rise. The change in him is remarkable; he is happy and smiling. The staff have been kind and caring and very responsive to Dad's needs. They make him smile and have a joke with him which is lovely to see. Dad struggles
to communicate with his dementia and the staff take time to help him. The home is bright, clean and has a lovely vibe. The residents are encouraged to join in a range of activities and there are loads of different things happening every week. I can wholeheartedly say this care home is exceptional.

My grandfather has been a resident at Lawton Rise for a number of years. During my time visiting him, I have seen four changes in management and I must say that the current management team is the most approachable and most willing to listen to any concerns. They will usually respond to any concerns
that I have, regardless of how minor they are. My grandfather has always been clean, well cared for and always appears happy. He has told me he likes the food and will eat every bite of his meals. The home let me know what is happening and keep me up to date with any incidents or changes to his care. I cant praise the staff enough - they are always friendly and welcoming. I enjoy talking with the staff nearly as much as talking to my grandfather.

As the grandson of one of the residents in this home, I would like to say I have found not one fault with this home, the management or the care teams. During such a difficult time for all of us, this care home has kept my family and myself in the know with everything regarding my Grandad. We have been
happy knowing he is safe, well and looked after. The last few months have not been easy for ourselves, for the staff or the residents and we had no doubt they were doing everything in their power to keep everyone’s loved ones safe. My experience with Lawton Rise Care Home is second to none. My father is well cared for with dignity and respect. The management and staff are very supportive and go above and beyond to help. I have not been happy at all with the care provided by Lawton Rise Care Home. I have found that the staff are not trained to the level they should be, unable to do basic procedures. I would not recommend anyone to send a relative here unless major improvements were implemented within the setting regarding
training and having fully trained staff in charge at all times. During the time my mother has been in Lawton Rise there has been a Covid pandemic creating difficult times but common sense decisions have not been made which have alarmed me. It has been a stressful time and this hasn't been helped by the lack of common sense shown at times by untrained senior staff. I have been very disappointed at times during the few weeks my mother has been there.

My Uncle has been a resident here for nearly one year now. The Lawton Rise team are angels! They always go above and beyond to keep all the residents safe and happy. The management is approachable, kind, and always has time to answer questions. Their attitude is reflected in the rest of the team's approach.
Even though such tough times, they have been kind and calm and put a smile on my face whenever I have called. Thank you!

My father has been a resident at Lawton Rise Vare Home for the past two years and I have to say, he's very happy there. The decor in some areas of the home does need updating and I believe that this will be happening in the near future, however, it is very clean. The management work very well together
and are very approachable, any concerns are dealt with as soon as possible. The entertainments programme is very good, there is a good mixture of activities, entertainers and events and everyone is encouraged to join in. The standard of care is very good, the staff seem very happy in their work and are very friendly, caring and helpful, not only with the residents but with relatives alike. I feel that the people I have met at Lawton Rise have become part of my extended family and I would definitely recommend it.

Jennifer Dale

Hi, my name is Jennifer, and I am the General Manager here at Lawton Rise.


I have worked at Lawton Rise since March 2018 and started my career here as a night nurse, progressing to Clinical Lead, Deputy Manager and then the Manager’s position in October 2019. I have recently supported the home through a CQC inspection achieving a rating of ‘Good’.


After completing my Adult Nursing Degree in 2015 I worked in Acute Medicine and Emergency and Trauma Nursing in the NHS before moving to Lawton Rise, my experience in these areas have proved essential in ensuring that the clinical aspect of our resident's care is met. I have always felt very passionate about dementia care, and during my time working in Acute Medicine in Manchester, I became a Dementia Champion and Dementia Lead for the Acute Medical Unit.


I am passionate about Person-Centred Dementia and Nursing care and feel that my approachable attitude and knowledge about the home and our residents have a positive impact on our team, relatives and healthcare professionals.

My name is Clare Dudley, and I am a Registered Mental Health Nurse with a lifelong passion for providing care and support. I began working in care at the age of 18 and have specialised in Dementia care since 1997. I completed my nurse training in 2010 and have experience as a home manager in a residential EMI home, then progressed to nursing homes. I found Lawton Rise in 2018, and this is where my real journey started.


I joined Lawton Rise in January 2018 and have since worked my way up to Deputy Manager. Over the years, I have seen firsthand how a strong, dedicated team can make a real difference, and I’m proud to say that Lawton Rise truly feels like a family. Together with our Manager, Jen, I am committed to continually improving standards and ensuring our home provides the best possible care for every resident

Hi, my name is Emma, and I am the Head Chef here at Lawton Rise. I began working here at the home as a Kitchen Assistant, and I have worked my way up to the role of Head Chef. I enjoy providing nutritious food for those we support and ensuring that all likes and preferences are catered for. I love seeing the effect a delicious home-baked cake or fresh, cold smoothie can have on our residents' day.

Hello, my name is Julie, and I am a Home Administrator at Lawton Rise. I have worked here since January 2018; however, I have experience within the care sector of 5 years. I am often the first face that visitors see upon entering the home, and I strive to always give an extremely warm welcome. My responsibilities include payroll, recruitment and relationship management with families and professionals. I also perform show-rounds, support the team with day-to-day tasks and answer phone enquiries.


I enjoy coming to work as my job is varied and continues to challenge me daily. I also find it extremely rewarding to socialise with our residents and know I have a positive impact on their lives.

Hi, my name is Shannon, and I am an Admin Assistant at Lawton Rise Care home.


I have worked here since May 2023; however, I have a lot of years of experience in Administration in various environments.


I enjoy meeting & greeting visitors in the home, and I am thoroughly enjoying getting to know the residents and socialising with them.

Hi, my name is Kirsty, and I have been part of the Lawton Rise Family since November 2020, when I started as a carer and also enjoyed a role as part of the activities team. I am also a Dementia Champion in the home and was nominated for a Carer of the Year Award at the Care Awards 2024.


Stepping into the Head of Housekeeping role in May 2025, I am determined to maintain high cleanliness standards in the home as well as make sure the residents have a safe, clean space that is homely and comfortable.

Adele Phillips

Job Title: Care Practitioner Joined: 1997

My name is Adele and I am a Care Practitioner at Lawton Rise Care Home. I started my Dementia journey in 1997 at Lawton Rise, as I knew that a career working with people who had Dementia would be a very rewarding career.


Having started my career as a Carer, I worked hard to complete my NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in care. Following my success, I was promoted to Senior Carer, which enabled me to further my knowledge in all aspects of work in the home. This enabled me to have a greater understanding of all the different roles within our home and how each role has a positive impact on our residents. A whole team approach is very visible at Lawton Rise.


From there, I went on to qualify as a Care Practitioner, assisting the Nursing staff and Management with the smooth running of the home. I thoroughly enjoy working at Lawton Rise, where we are one big happy family!
