Lawton Rise is a purpose-built specialist nursing centre for residents living with dementia and cognitive impairment – situated close to the amenities of Goldenhill, near Stoke on Trent. The 62 bedrooms, mostly en-suite, are all equipped for those requiring advanced dementia nursing. With the first floor rooms catering for less mobile residents who require a greater level of care, carers think carefully about the type of room each resident needs.
Lawton Rise is designed, furnished, decorated and operated according to best practice from specialist researchers into dementia. The interior design of the home minimises the distress that can be caused by loss of memory, confusion and problems with speech and understanding.
Set across two floors, the home has four lounges, kitchenettes and dining areas. Residents live in small groups having individual lounge and dining areas, ensuring familiar faces and continuity of care. Both ground floor lounges open onto a safe, enclosed dementia garden and on the first floor, there is an indoor garden area. The home even has its own pub – The Lawton Arms – a private bar for residents of the home. The enclosed garden has plenty of seating and a water feature - perfect for relaxing outdoors.
Regular activities are planned by the activities coordinator to keep residents stimulated and engaged. Residents and their families are encouraged to make suggestions, which will be met if possible.
Meals are prepared by trained chefs, who provide a variety of fresh, nutritional, and tasty meals to a daily menu. Special dietary requirements will be met.

This is Mum's second care home and I am so happy that she moved here. The staff are very friendly and genuinely care for the residents. The facilities are second to none and they arrange lots of activities for the residents and families to participate in. I know Mum is getting the best care here.

His medication has been regulated successfully and the services offered such as artwork, Christmas cards and guest singers are exemplary. Moreover, the 3-course meals given every day are 4-star standard.

I find the care is very good and the home clean and well-run. My only issue is the laundry and the fact that clothes go missing.

Our mum has been a resident at Lawton Rise for a number of years. There is a variety of good food for residents, but sadly our mum’s dementia has got a lot worse and now she does not eat much. Bedroom is bright, airy and warm. Staff offer good interaction with Mum, as she is very active, even at 89. Lawton Rise usually respond to any concerns that I have, regardless of how minor they are. My mum has always been clean and well cared for. The home lets me know what is happening and keeps me up to date with any incidents or changes to her care, they are always friendly and welcoming.

A very good afternoon. My wife has been a resident of Lawton Rise for over five years. I find the home to be very well run, and from the management down, very helpful and most obliging. If I have any problems, they are great at sorting out any problems, not that I can remember any such occasions arising for a long time. I would like to praise four members firstly, the manager, secondly the assistant manager, thirdly and last but not least is the administration lady, but I must say all the staff are without a doubt first class.

My mum was in Lawton Rise for 4 years she passed away in November 2022. The care she had while in there was exceptional the staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. They treat their residents as if they were their own family. They always put a smile on Mum's face, we knew she was well taken care of, you worry about them but we knew she was fine. There was always something going on to entertain them, music afternoons singers would come in. The staff always kept me well informed on how she was. The staff are absolutely brilliant, one member of staff was mum's main carer, you start off as strangers and end up being part of one big family can not praise them enough.

In the 9 days she was there she had 19 falls again due to no 1.1 care, this resulted in another hospital stay.
Dec 22 she was assessed (while covid was on the ward) and although nothing apart from the falls had changed they decided she couldn’t return. Why have her in the first place? A proper assessment should have been done in Nov (they were told of the challenges Mum had). No call bell in room. Mum was let down big time. The evidence of bruising is heartbreaking. I sadly would not recommend here at all. Management would not return calls or speak to me. The rooms are beautiful, the grounds are beautiful, but that's the only plus to it.

If a problem does arise it is immediately listened to and addressed at the time, if possible, or referred to the appropriate person. The earlier general refurbishment has made all the difference to the more homely feel and standard of surroundings. We look forward to the continuation of the plan. There are times when unfamiliar staff assigned to the unit is unsettling for the residents.

From day one, up to the present time. I could not have wished for a more professional, extremely caring and welcoming care home for my beloved wife to be a resident in. Her care has been first-rate and the staff have always been both gracious to me and to my wife. I cannot thank them enough.

My mum came here on an assessment bed from a hospital 20 miles away due to her worsening dementia and increase in hospital admissions due to falls. I was so worried that she wasn't on the doorstep but soon realised after conversations with the home manager, who put me at ease and showed great empathy for my situation, that she would, at last, be safe for a while. My darling mum has now been in the home for 6 weeks and is a different person. I will be forever grateful to the whole team at Lawton Rise for their dedicated and compassionate work helping my mum and the other lovely people living their lives with dementia. An incredible place which I couldn't have wished harder to exist! Thank you from the bottom of mine, my families but most importantly, my mum's heart.

As the grandson of one of the residents in this home, I would like to say I have found not one fault with this home, the management or the care teams. During such a difficult time for all of us, this care home has kept my family and myself in the know with everything regarding my Grandad. We have been happy knowing he is safe, well and looked after. The last few months have not been easy for ourselves, for the staff or the residents and we had no doubt they were doing everything in their power to keep everyone’s loved ones safe. It gave us great peace of mind knowing he was in the right place. Thank you Lawton Rise.

Hi, my name is Jennifer, and I am the General Manager here at Lawton Rise.
I have worked at Lawton Rise since March 2018 and started my career here as a night nurse, progressing to Clinical Lead, Deputy Manager and then the Manager’s position in October 2019. I have recently supported the home through a CQC inspection achieving a rating of ‘Good’.
After completing my Adult Nursing Degree in 2015 I worked in Acute Medicine and Emergency and Trauma Nursing in the NHS before moving to Lawton Rise, my experience in these areas have proved essential in ensuring that the clinical aspect of our resident's care is met. I have always felt very passionate about dementia care, and during my time working in Acute Medicine in Manchester, I became a Dementia Champion and Dementia Lead for the Acute Medical Unit.
I am passionate about Person-Centred Dementia and Nursing care and feel that my approachable attitude and knowledge about the home and our residents have a positive impact on our team, relatives and healthcare professionals.

My name is Clare Dudley, and I am a Registered Mental Health Nurse with a lifelong passion for providing care and support. I began working in care at the age of 18 and have specialised in Dementia care since 1997. I completed my nurse training in 2010 and have experience as a home manager in a residential EMI home, then progressed to nursing homes. I found Lawton Rise in 2018, and this is where my real journey started.
I joined Lawton Rise in January 2018 and have since worked my way up to Deputy Manager. Over the years, I have seen firsthand how a strong, dedicated team can make a real difference, and I’m proud to say that Lawton Rise truly feels like a family. Together with our Manager, Jen, I am committed to continually improving standards and ensuring our home provides the best possible care for every resident

I am often the first face that visitors see upon entering the home, and I strive to always give an extremely warm welcome. My responsibilities include payroll, recruitment and relationship management with families and professionals. I also perform show-rounds, support the team with day-to-day tasks and answer phone enquiries.
I enjoy coming to work as my job is varied and continues to challenge me daily. I also find it extremely rewarding to socialise with our residents and know I have a positive impact on their lives.

My name is Adele and I am a Care Practitioner at Lawton Rise Care Home. I started my Dementia journey in 1997 at Lawton Rise, as I knew that a career working with people who had Dementia would be a very rewarding career.
Having started my career as a Carer, I worked hard to complete my NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in care. Following my success, I was promoted to Senior Carer, which enabled me to further my knowledge in all aspects of work in the home. This enabled me to have a greater understanding of all the different roles within our home and how each role has a positive impact on our residents. A whole team approach is very visible at Lawton Rise.
From there, I went on to qualify as a Care Practitioner, assisting the Nursing staff and Management with the smooth running of the home. I thoroughly enjoy working at Lawton Rise, where we are one big happy family!

My name is Linda, and I am a Registered Nurse at Lawton Rise Care Home, where I have worked since June 2025. I am originally from Ghana, and it has been a privilege to build my career and contribute to the well-being of our residents here.Working in this role brings me immense fulfilment. Each day offers a new opportunity to provide compassionate, person-centred care that supports our residents’ daily needs, emotional well-being, and their overall quality of life. I take great pride in delivering care with love, patience, and respect, ensuring that every individual feels valued, understood, and truly cared for.
What inspires me most is the ability to make a meaningful difference — whether it is through offering comfort, sharing a kind moment, or bringing a smile to a resident’s face. Seeing them happy and contented is the greatest reward of my profession.
Caring for our residents is an honour, and I remain committed to enriching their lives every day through dedication, compassion, and excellence in practice.
I am deeply grateful for the support I receive from Barchester in terms of commitment to continuous learning and the structured career pathway.
