Lawton Rise is a purpose-built specialist nursing centre for residents living with dementia and cognitive impairment – situated close to the amenities of Goldenhill, near Stoke on Trent. The 62 bedrooms, mostly en-suite, are all equipped for those requiring advanced dementia nursing. With the first floor rooms catering for less mobile residents who require a greater level of care, carers think carefully about the type of room each resident needs.
Lawton Rise is designed, furnished, decorated and operated according to best practice from specialist researchers into dementia. The interior design of the home minimises the distress that can be caused by loss of memory, confusion and problems with speech and understanding.
Set across two floors, the home has four lounges, kitchenettes and dining areas. Residents live in small groups having individual lounge and dining areas, ensuring familiar faces and continuity of care. Both ground floor lounges open onto a safe, enclosed dementia garden and on the first floor, there is an indoor garden area. The home even has its own pub – The Lawton Arms – a private bar for residents of the home. The enclosed garden has plenty of seating and a water feature - perfect for relaxing outdoors.
Regular activities are planned by the activities coordinator to keep residents stimulated and engaged. Residents and their families are encouraged to make suggestions, which will be met if possible.
Meals are prepared by trained chefs, who provide a variety of fresh, nutritional, and tasty meals to a daily menu. Special dietary requirements will be met.

I have not been happy at all with the care provided by Lawton Rise Care Home. I have found that the staff are not trained to the level they should be, unable to do basic procedures. I would not recommend anyone to send a relative here unless major improvements were implemented within the setting regarding training and having fully trained staff in charge at all times. During the time my mother has been in Lawton Rise there has been a Covid pandemic creating difficult times but common sense decisions have not been made which have alarmed me. It has been a stressful time and this hasn't been helped by the lack of common sense shown at times by untrained senior staff. I have been very disappointed at times during the few weeks my mother has been there.

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We work hard to recruit the right carers and nurses and ensure they are inducted and trained to a high standard. In regards to your Mother’s specific care needs, this is a specialist area and not all team members are required to be trained. The registered mental health nurse in this instance on duty when it was removed had not yet completed the specific training for this specialist area and to ensure needs met we referred to the hospital. We continually review our rotas to ensure we are continually meeting the needs of our residents as their health needs change and organise training accordingly. We would like to apologise for any concerns you experienced with your Mum's service during her short time with us. Our service is regularly monitored by the General Manager and Regional team. We operate an open-door policy and extend a warm invitation to all our residents and families too.

My father has been a resident at Lawton Rise Vare Home for the past two years and I have to say, he's very happy there. The decor in some areas of the home does need updating and I believe that this will be happening in the near future, however, it is very clean. The management work very well together and are very approachable, any concerns are dealt with as soon as possible. The entertainments programme is very good, there is a good mixture of activities, entertainers and events and everyone is encouraged to join in. The standard of care is very good, the staff seem very happy in their work and are very friendly, caring and helpful, not only with the residents but with relatives alike. I feel that the people I have met at Lawton Rise have become part of my extended family and I would definitely recommend it.

They manager her diabetes well and they appear to have halted the recurrent U.T.I's she suffered previously.
The home is clean and staff sociable. An extremely difficult job which is met with humour and care. This is much appreciated by the relatives of the clients, who can rest assured that people are looked after in a way suitable for each individual.

I feel that all of the staff have got my father's interest at the front of their list at all times. They have always made me aware of any issues with his care at the earliest opportunity. The care taken to help in his day to day living is second to none if it's persuading him to eat or taking his medication. They take the time to treat him like a human being and not a number. In many respects, I feel they treat him like one of their own relatives.

Hi, my name is Jennifer, and I am the General Manager here at Lawton Rise.
I have worked at Lawton Rise since March 2018 and started my career here as a night nurse, progressing to Clinical Lead, Deputy Manager and then the Manager’s position in October 2019. I have recently supported the home through a CQC inspection achieving a rating of ‘Good’.
After completing my Adult Nursing Degree in 2015 I worked in Acute Medicine and Emergency and Trauma Nursing in the NHS before moving to Lawton Rise, my experience in these areas have proved essential in ensuring that the clinical aspect of our resident's care is met. I have always felt very passionate about dementia care, and during my time working in Acute Medicine in Manchester, I became a Dementia Champion and Dementia Lead for the Acute Medical Unit.
I am passionate about Person-Centred Dementia and Nursing care and feel that my approachable attitude and knowledge about the home and our residents have a positive impact on our team, relatives and healthcare professionals.

My name is Clare Dudley, and I am a Registered Mental Health Nurse with a lifelong passion for providing care and support. I began working in care at the age of 18 and have specialised in Dementia care since 1997. I completed my nurse training in 2010 and have experience as a home manager in a residential EMI home, then progressed to nursing homes. I found Lawton Rise in 2018, and this is where my real journey started.
I joined Lawton Rise in January 2018 and have since worked my way up to Deputy Manager. Over the years, I have seen firsthand how a strong, dedicated team can make a real difference, and I’m proud to say that Lawton Rise truly feels like a family. Together with our Manager, Jen, I am committed to continually improving standards and ensuring our home provides the best possible care for every resident

My name is Adele and I am a Care Practitioner at Lawton Rise Care Home. I started my Dementia journey in 1997 at Lawton Rise, as I knew that a career working with people who had Dementia would be a very rewarding career.
Having started my career as a Carer, I worked hard to complete my NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in care. Following my success, I was promoted to Senior Carer, which enabled me to further my knowledge in all aspects of work in the home. This enabled me to have a greater understanding of all the different roles within our home and how each role has a positive impact on our residents. A whole team approach is very visible at Lawton Rise.
From there, I went on to qualify as a Care Practitioner, assisting the Nursing staff and Management with the smooth running of the home. I thoroughly enjoy working at Lawton Rise, where we are one big happy family!

I am looking forward to learning a new set of skills and having the opportunity to make a difference to the residents' day by ensuring a high-quality standard is always being met. I am delighted to be able to bring even more joy and happiness to the residents through person-centred activities.

My name is Linda, and I am a Registered Nurse at Lawton Rise Care Home, where I have worked since June 2025. I am originally from Ghana, and it has been a privilege to build my career and contribute to the well-being of our residents here.Working in this role brings me immense fulfilment. Each day offers a new opportunity to provide compassionate, person-centred care that supports our residents’ daily needs, emotional well-being, and their overall quality of life. I take great pride in delivering care with love, patience, and respect, ensuring that every individual feels valued, understood, and truly cared for.
What inspires me most is the ability to make a meaningful difference — whether it is through offering comfort, sharing a kind moment, or bringing a smile to a resident’s face. Seeing them happy and contented is the greatest reward of my profession.
Caring for our residents is an honour, and I remain committed to enriching their lives every day through dedication, compassion, and excellence in practice.
I am deeply grateful for the support I receive from Barchester in terms of commitment to continuous learning and the structured career pathway. This has been instrumental in my personal and professional development. It motivates me to keep growing, improving, and delivering the highest standard of care.
