Lawton Rise is a purpose-built specialist nursing centre for residents living with dementia and cognitive impairment – situated close to the amenities of Goldenhill, near Stoke on Trent. The 62 bedrooms, mostly en-suite, are all equipped for those requiring advanced dementia nursing. With the first floor rooms catering for less mobile residents who require a greater level of care, carers think carefully about the type of room each resident needs.

Lawton Rise is designed, furnished, decorated and operated according to best practice from specialist researchers into dementia. The interior design of the home minimises the distress that can be caused by loss of memory, confusion and problems with speech and understanding.

Set across two floors, the home has four lounges, kitchenettes and dining areas. Residents live in small groups having individual lounge and dining areas, ensuring familiar faces and continuity of care. Both ground floor lounges open onto a safe, enclosed dementia garden and on the first floor, there is an indoor garden area. The home even has its own pub – The Lawton Arms – a private bar for residents of the home. The enclosed garden has plenty of seating and a water feature - perfect for relaxing outdoors.

Regular activities are planned by the activities coordinator to keep residents stimulated and engaged. Residents and their families are encouraged to make suggestions, which will be met if possible.

Meals are prepared by trained chefs, who provide a variety of fresh, nutritional, and tasty meals to a daily menu. Special dietary requirements will be met.

I attended Pancake Day, an excellent morning. All the staff from the kitchen, the carers and especially the entertainment coordinator did a superb job. Provided Pancakes, Crepes with fruit and sauces, nothing is too much trouble.

When we have visited mum is clean and well cared for. The staff have formed good relationships with her. She is non-verbal but the staff interpret mum's non-verbal communications well and she appears settled. The staff make great efforts to ensure mum's safety. They manager her diabetes well and they
appear to have halted the recurrent U.T.I's she suffered previously.

The care my brother received was second to none. He was treated with dignity and respect. All the staff who cared for my brother were wonderful, always there to offer support to us. We were fully aware of all aspects of his nursing care during his stay here.

I feel that all of the staff have got my father's interest at the front of their list at all times. They have always made me aware of any issues with his care at the earliest opportunity. The care taken to help in his day to day living is second to none if it's persuading him to eat or taking his medication.
They take the time to treat him like a human being and not a number. In many respects, I feel they treat him like one of their own relatives.

Since my wife arrived at Lawton Rise she has been very well looked after. The standard of care has been excellent and the staff have been outstanding in their care for my wife and us as a family. The room has been of a high standard for cleanliness. My wife has been well fed and drinks have been freely
available to us all. My wife has received a high standard of medical care with prompt visits to the doctors and hospital. The gardens were a great help in the hot summer days being safe and secure. In conclusion, Lawton Rise as a home is outstanding.

I would not hesitate in recommending Lawton Rise Nursing Home for anyone suffering from dementia. My uncle had dementia but was otherwise quite healthy. There was always a lot of staff and nurses available and his every need was taken care of, nothing being too much trouble. There was always daily entertainment
and activities provided which the staff encourage all the residents to attend. I would like to thank everyone concerned for their help whilst my uncle resided at Lawton Rise, they all do a great job!

I am very impressed with the care my husband is receiving, the staff are very approachable and so kind. There is entertainment every afternoon. The staff in charge of activities work so hard, making sure the residents have an enjoyable time. Also, the nurses are brilliant, they always phone if there
are any problems. My husband is well looked after. If I ever go into care, Lawton Rise is where I would like to go.

Hi, my name is Jennifer, and I am the General Manager here at Lawton Rise.


I have worked at Lawton Rise since March 2018 and started my career here as a night nurse, progressing to Clinical Lead, Deputy Manager and then the Manager’s position in October 2019. I have recently supported the home through a CQC inspection achieving a rating of ‘Good’.


After completing my Adult Nursing Degree in 2015 I worked in Acute Medicine and Emergency and Trauma Nursing in the NHS before moving to Lawton Rise, my experience in these areas have proved essential in ensuring that the clinical aspect of our resident's care is met. I have always felt very passionate about dementia care, and during my time working in Acute Medicine in Manchester, I became a Dementia Champion and Dementia Lead for the Acute Medical Unit.


I am passionate about Person-Centred Dementia and Nursing care and feel that my approachable attitude and knowledge about the home and our residents have a positive impact on our team, relatives and healthcare professionals.

My name is Clare Dudley, and I am a Registered Mental Health Nurse with a lifelong passion for providing care and support. I began working in care at the age of 18 and have specialised in Dementia care since 1997. I found Lawton Rise in 2018, and this is where my real journey started.

My name is Adele and I am a Care Practitioner at Lawton Rise Care Home. I started my Dementia journey in 1997 at Lawton Rise, as I knew that a career working with people who had Dementia would be a very rewarding career.


Having started my career as a Carer, I worked hard to complete my NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in care. Following my success, I was promoted to Senior Carer, which enabled me to further my knowledge in all aspects of work in the home. This enabled me to have a greater understanding of all the different roles within our home and how each role has a positive impact on our residents. A whole team approach is very visible at Lawton Rise.


From there, I went on to qualify as a Care Practitioner, assisting the Nursing staff and Management with the smooth running of the home. I thoroughly enjoy working at Lawton Rise, where we are one big happy family!
