My mother has been a resident at Kenilworth Grange for about 10 years. The nursing care she has received has fully met her complex needs. Sadly, I cannot comment on the activities etc. offered by the home.
Kenilworth Grange has a new manager, and the changes being made by her are having a positive
impact.

As a family we have been very happy with the care and attention that my mum has received at Kenilworth Grange- we particularly like that my mum gets taken out into Kenilworth. Mum enjoys the regularity of the meals. As visitors we feel welcomed and comfortable when we visit mum.

I love Kenilworth Grange care home. ABSOLUTELY ALL staff who work with you are kind, considerate and very caring. I think the most important thing for me is the moment I enter through the front door I am always met with a smile and a 'hello'. Every single member of staff I pass looks up and acknowledges
me.
The care you provide for my mum is wonderful and I can't think of anything at all that is negative. It's ALL positive and I'm so pleased she is being cared for by the staff at Kenilworth Grange.
Thank you so very much

Food - Is it possible to have garden peas as an alternative to mushy peas.
I'm sorry that the fees have had to go up but I do understand that the employers' insurance and minimum wage has gone up and care homes have been hit really badly.
I have been very happy with my care overall and comfortable
in my room since I arrived here last year.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Kenilworth GrangeThank you for your feedback regarding Kenilworth Grange. We appreciate your suggestion about having garden peas as an alternative to mushy peas, and we will certainly look into offering that option moving forward. We’re committed to providing a variety of meal choices that cater to all residents' preferences.

We understand that fee increases can be concerning, and we truly appreciate your understanding of the rising costs. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, we would politely encourage you to reach out to the Home Manager directly who will be happy to listen to and address your concerns efficiently and effectively.

We’re also very pleased to hear that you’ve been happy with your care and feel comfortable in your room since your arrival last year. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we’ll continue to do our best to meet your needs.

My husband seems to be well cared for. I do think it would be beneficial to the residents to keep the same carers within reason, as they seem to change every few days. The residents would get to know the carers better. Staff on the whole, are very pleasant.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Kenilworth GrangeThank you for sharing your feedback regarding Kenilworth Grange. Your positive feedback regarding the quality of care provided to your husband is greatly appreciated.

We truly value your input regarding the consistency of carers, and we understand how beneficial it could be for the residents to become more familiar with the individuals providing their care. We will certainly take this into consideration as we continue to ensure that the best possible care is provided.

It’s also wonderful to hear that you find our staff to be pleasant overall, and we will continue to prioritise maintaining a positive and caring environment for all residents.

If you ever have any concerns in the future, we politely encourage you to reach out to the Home Manager directly who will be happy to listen to and address your concerns promptly.

Thank you again for your thoughtful comments!

The staff and management are always helpful and very caring. Mum seems quite settled. A bit confused. The cleaner always speaks and asks if Mum is okay. A staff member in the office is always helpful. A particular member of staff always asks if everything is okay.
All the staff are very helpful.

Have just found out from my daughter when visiting her grandma she was being forced to move, in distress and absolutely no interaction from care staff. This place is a business and has nothing to do with any sign of quality care. No interaction was witnessed between care staff and residents. Poor, if
no, handover from the home manager when Mum left. Soulless and ignore anything you read about 1-2-1, dementia care. From our experience, it was more of sit them down and keep them quiet.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Kenilworth GrangeFirstly, I would like to apologise for your recent experience at Kenilworth Grange. The staff are professional, kind and caring. They are attentive to my needs. When I arrived it was difficult being in a strange place. The staff helped me and reassured me. They listen to me and respond appropriately. I felt scared at the beginning but now I feel secure. I do feel loved. The nurses
are outstanding and have been there for me throughout my ten months of being here. I would recommend people to being here at the home because of the care.

Kenilworth Grange have treated my father with dignity and respect. I have always found him beautifully clean and dressed well, laundry always washed and laundered well, Dad is always well shaved, personal care brilliant. The staff are amazing on Willow Floor, always kind to me as well as Dad. The activity

Really pleased to see my dad receiving such wonderful care. The staff are excellent and treat my dad with dignity at all times. Despite suffering from both dementia and parkinsons Dad is in better physical shape now than he has been for the last few years, that is all down to the quality of the care
and attention from staff that he receives. I also have complete peace of mind which has improved my own physical and mental health. Thank you Kenilworth Grange!

Mom was transferred to the Grange from hospital after a short illness, we weren't happy with her previous care home as her needs were not met. We were lucky to be offered a residential place for Mom at the Grange and we are delighted. Mom is looked after so well by all the staff even the cleaners and
she is so settled, content and happy, it's such a relief to us all. The team are always around to answer any questions, we are contacted regularly to make sure her needs are been given. It's just lovely and gives us such peace of mind and the change in Mom is remarkable, she is so happy healthy and content. Thank you, long may she live the rest of her life in such beautiful surroundings and around such beautiful people.

Whilst my father's needs are now different to when he first came in, I don't feel it is being addressed. Overall, he is cared for well although on many occasions he has needed to be changed. I have, on many different occasions, swept the floor - pulling out bedside cabinet when looking for his glasses
to find dust and food both under the cabinet and bed. TV not working - even though you report things (no duvet in bed) it takes a long time to get something done. Not enough actively working staff.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Kenilworth GrangeWhilst we are glad to hear you feel your father is being cared for well, we are disappointed to hear of your comments surrounding the upkeep of his bedroom and the staffing levels in the home. We hold ourselves to a high standard, including the cleanliness of our facilities, so this has now been raised with our housekeeping team. We have not been made aware of an issue with your fathers TV, but will attend to this immediately to ensure the issue is fixed. We encourage residents and relatives to flag any technical issues with us directly so these can be rectified in a timely manner. Our suites remain appropriately staffed at all times, and our team are dedicated to ensuring residents are always supported and comfortable.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.409)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.409) out of 10 for Kenilworth Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.409 for Kenilworth Grange is calculated as follows: ( (220 Excellents x 5) + (124 Goods x 4) + (30 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 386 Ratings = 4.409
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kenilworth Grange is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I joined the team at Kenilworth Grange in October 2011. I’m a Registered Nurse, and I’ve continued my nursing education to achieve a master’s degree in nursing, as well as midwife and social and health care qualifications.

To do this role well, you need to be analytical and a team player. It’s important to be an effective communicator and a role model who can lead the team. You also need up-to-date clinical skills and the ability to manage the home.

I have a good rapport with my colleagues and enjoy managing the home as a unit. My favourite part of the day is ensuring the team's skill mix is just right. Contributing to health and safety training has been a highlight of my career, and I take great pride in empowering colleagues through clinical competencies.
