My husband came to Barchester Overslade House Care Home for 6 weeks continuing healthcare assessment. He has only been here for one week and I am very impressed with how well they have got to know him in such a short space of time. It was very reassuring to observe the care that the staff gave, any queries I had were answered immediately and cheerfully. Sometimes when I arrived to visit, there were staff caring for Mum and I could overhear them talking to her so kindly. She was always clean, a jug of water always in reach, a call bell at her side. I know that Mum would have told me in no uncertain terms if the staff weren't caring, but she always smiled and said they were lovely. I visited several times a week and I only ever observed kindliness. Thank you!

After taking time away to raise a family, I returned to nursing by training as a Community Health Nurse and worked as a Community Psychiatric Nurse for 5 years, managing 5 clinics in the area. I moved to the UK in 2004 and started working immediately for Barchester Healthcare at Overslade House, where I also qualified as an NVQ assessor. I love working with people and helping them. Cecil Gill is a valued volunteer at Overslade House who gives his time to our residents weekly to offer emotional and spiritual support. Cecil was in the Christian ministry for over 50 years, mainly in the villages in Norfolk and Essex, and retired to Rugby in 2014 where shortly afterwards they became part of the ‘Gift of years’, working in care homes in the town, and which he hopes to continue to do in Overslade for the foreseeable future.
Cecil has lived in Rugby for 10 years; he has four grown-up children and 6 grandchildren whom he loves spending time with. Cecil enjoys walking and over the years has walked many miles in and around Rugby. Especially along the canals. Cecil also enjoys gardening.
Cecil said, “We count it a privilege to be chaplains in Overslade care home, where we represent the Rugby churches, offering spiritual care through reading the Bible, prayer and conversation with the residents”.
