Richmond Villages Bede is a vibrant and integrated retirement community designed to enhance the health, happiness, and wellbeing of its residents. With a wealth of services and facilities available on-site, the village offers a lifestyle that promotes independence, comfort, and connection.

Richmond Villages Bede is an award-winning retirement village set in established grounds located on the outskirts of Coventry, a cathedral city in the heart of the West Midlands.

At the heart of the vibrant retirement village is the care home, with 47 en-suite bedrooms (9 of which are newly refurbished residential dementia rooms), providing first-class residential dementia, nursing, respite and convalescent care and care for the young and physically disabled.

The retirement village features excellent on-site facilities that include a restaurant with a terrace, a number of relaxing sitting rooms, hair and nail salon, free Wi-Fi, activities areas, plus landscaped gardens and an orchard.

All rooms are tastefully decorated by a team of specialist interior designers and feature electric profiling beds, a range of furniture, TV, telephone, en-suite shower room and Wi-Fi access.

The village is run by a village manager and a dedicated team of employees who are trained to deliver only the best possible care to the residents.

Unlike traditional care homes, Richmond Villages Bede uses its carers and nurses solely for the purpose of caring and supporting residents, whilst fully trained hospitality and housekeeping staff look after meal preparation and cleaning.

To further enhance the well-being and enjoyment of residents, the village also has a dedicated activities team. The team provides a daily activities programme that includes day trips where transport is provided by Richmond Villages Bede's own vehicles and dedicated drivers. The village also offers independent and assisted living properties.

My mum is very happy here. Just loves the place. Caring staff and management. So well looked after. It’s perfect for her. I love the fact that I can rest knowing she’s happy and cared for. Great food in the restaurant. And in these difficult times, all residents have been looked after and cared for.
Gorgeous gardens to enjoy too. I hope I can find a place so nice when I need to!

The staff here are wonderful. I was treated with great kindness and care. They catered for all my whims - nothing was too much trouble. They treat us with great dignity. You can also have fun and laughter with them. I was lucky to have an absolutely splendid room overlooking the beautiful garden - planted
with lovely bushes. I could walk around and watch nesting birds. Morning activities kept me occupied.

My dad is really carefully supported by the Bede Team and cared for with compassion and dignity. They have his trust, and mine and have earnt it over and over. They are expert and courageous in pushing forward what is best for him with wider health partners and help the family support him in many ways.
For the role they have played for him during the pandemic (almost everything!), we will be forever grateful. He couldn’t live anywhere better.
Reply from Tina Kingsman, Registered Clinical Manager at Richmond Bede VillageThank you so much for leaving us such a lovely review, I will pass this onto the team, although it has been a difficult year it has been a pleasure to care for Dad and hopefully as things improve we will see more of our families.

Brilliant! My parents moved to a bungalow (independent living) in 2012 and immediately felt at home - they regretted not having moved there much sooner. They got involved in bowls, pub trips, outings, the restaurant etc as well as enjoying the environment of Bede Village (including the gardens and bowling
green) and the friendly staff and villagers. When my mother became seriously ill, the ability to arrange excellent domiciliary care support significantly minimised the stress and difficulty for the whole family.
In 2020, my father got Covid-19 whilst in hospital, so that he now needs care home support. At a very difficult time, the support from everyone at Bede Village has been excellent in arranging the transfer from hospital, sorting a nice room, supporting external physiotherapists and easy contact with the family despite not being able to have normal visits. When restrictions have permitted there have been activities including singers etc and the effort made to enable him to celebrate both his 90th birthday and his granddaughter getting married have been amazing - more than going the extra mile! I would thoroughly recommend Bede Village to anyone considering a move to a retirement village - don't leave it too late!
Reply from Tina Kingsman, Registered Clinical Manager at Richmond Bede VillageThank you for your kind words and such amazing feedback. I will pass on this lovely review to the team. Although it has been a tough year for all it has been a pleasure getting to know Dad and becoming part of his family. Thank you again.

After such a dreadful year we wish to send a huge thank you to all the staff at Bede Village. Mum has been at Bede for 18 months now and we have never doubted that we made the right decision. Not only is it a lovely place, but the care is also second to none. The staff are extremely compassionate and
always at the end of the phone whether it be Management or the nursing team to answer any questions and put our minds at rest and always keep us in the loop with any decisions with Mum's care. The regular face time calls during covid when visiting has been restricted have been so appreciated to reassure us that our loved ones are being well cared for. We cannot thank you enough for going over and above what has been expected, during such a very difficult time for everyone. All of the staff no matter what their duties have become Mum's family and we take such comfort from that. Anyone with the same decisions to make, please feel reassured that your loved ones will be in very safe and caring hands at Bede Village.

My Nan's health deteriorated, she had spent two periods of respite in Richmond Bede Village and decided to make it her home. The staff were amazing and made her feel so at home and welcome. Care was individual and they always went the extra mile so she was comfortable. As a family, we knew she was well
cared for and very happy, communication was really good and they ensured she was pain-free and settled. Can't thank them enough for everything they did.

My mother died at Bede after a roller coaster 6 weeks following a fall, initially, she was keen to move into residential care at Bede. We knew it from when my Father died there and received excellent care. Sadly my Mother's condition rapidly deteriorated after an underlying condition was diagnosed.
We managed to arrange for her discharge from hospital into the Bede Village nursing home where she was cared for during her last few days.
Although the global pandemic obviously added to the stress felt in our family I cannot speak highly enough of the dedicated staff, nothing was too much trouble. Due to the circumstances, only one person was permitted to visit and I was privileged enough to be with my mother in her room for nearly two days. During that very difficult time, I felt cared for myself and was able to observe the consistently high level of care given to my mother and to other residents; some of whom had quite challenging behaviour.
Reply from Sonia Tenniswood, Deputy Village Manager at Richmond Bede VillageThank you for your review, we send our sincere condolences for your recent loss and thank you for taking the time to share your experience of Richmond Bede Village, particularly at such a difficult time. Very sadly mum passed away in April of this year. Up until April, she had received unbelievable care from every member of the team at Bede Villiage, from the cleaning staff, restaurant and caring staff you could not have wished for better. Since her passing everyone at Bede has been quite wonderfully
supportive to me. In trying to sell mums apartment the 2 members involved have been so helpful and caring. All my thanks to everyone who has helped me and of course my lovely mum.

We visit our friends here and are always impressed by the cleanliness, friendly smiling staff, general atmosphere, care provided, opportunities to participate in stimulating activities for residents. The building a beautifully furnished environment, always attractive, modern, well decorated. It is welcoming
and looks efficient and well managed. Only one suggestion/ comment - maybe there could be more time spent chatting/engaging residents in conversation? Then - perfect!

The care of our daughter has been excellent.
Good nursing practices alongside a caring GP practice has prevented her from frequent hospital admissions.
The Nursing Home has a happy, friendly atmosphere and staff listen to patients acknowledging and providing for their needs.
They also listen to relatives
and friends - empathy is part of their care.

I could not ask for better care. The staff are magnificent. Everybody goes out of their way to say hello and have a little chat with me. I enjoy the facilities and look forward to my weekly hair appointments. The activities are varied and interesting and are the highlight of y day. I enjoy singing along

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.622)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.622) out of 10 for Richmond Bede Village is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.647 for Richmond Bede Village is calculated as follows: ( (186 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 238 Ratings = 4.647
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Richmond Bede Village is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
