Valley Lodge Care Home with Nursing

The rooms are bright, well decorated, equipped and a good size, with clear attention to safety and security. We're very pleased we chose Valley Lodge.

There seems to be no system for ensuring hearing aids are looked after. Despite my best efforts over the last 2 years, three hearing aids have gone missing. I have now given up on this issue and my mum can long hear me talking to her. (They are both £1000 each to the NHS). This issue needs addressing PLEASE!

The facilities and care are very good with nice clean, bright and airy rooms.

The downside is that many residents are extremely noisy. Not enough toilet/bathroom facilities - one has been closed for months.

All the staff at Valley Lodge, from the management right through to the kitchen and laundry staff, have shown an incredibly high level of compassion and tenderness in caring for my mother. In particular, I want to praise the dedication and vigilance shown by the senior carers, including the rigorous administration of medication. It has been heartening to see the whole team apply a friendly and helpful approach to all the residents. The organised activities have been varied and stimulating.

Although I am here for a short time, my experience has been a very happy one.

After being ejected from an MHA care home due to lack of nursing care availability, we were rushed into finding a new place for my stepfather. We chose Valley Lodge in Matlock doing the normal checks and visits. We have been absolutely delighted with the care shown to my stepfather. He is always clean and looks so comfortable. He had been mainly bedbound, but now is getting up. The room is lovely, spacious, well decorated, always clean, and with a lovely view over the garden and hills.

The office is also efficient with bright, pleasant staff, who are very accommodating and on hand to help.

We are all very happy to have made this choice.

My father is well cared for on the whole. The place is always clean, the food is good. Dad is involved when he is able to take part in activities.

My mum is a resident in Valley Lodge. We are quite satisfied with the care that is being given to my mum.

The staff are lovely and the bedrooms just the right size. Tea and coffee are regularly brought around to residents and there is a range of activities and entertainment. Cleaning is thorough and there are never any unpleasant smells. The atmosphere feels caring. There are occasions when staff numbers are stretched, particularly at weekends. I have not given a score to Management (below) as Management is never visible - something which needs to be addressed.

I am very satisfied with my wife's care. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. I have helped out with the gardening here at Valley Lodge, donating tomato plants. I come three times a week to visit my wife and every time I come I feel quite happy with everything here at Valley Lodge. Management is always there to answer any question that I have and they help me so much.

Mum is well cared for, she seems happy and well fed which is a credit to Valley Lodge. She had a lovely, homely bedroom and bathroom. It would be, if possible, made enjoyable to have regular outdoor excursions to the Park - of course only if mum is up to it. Valley Lodge is a home from home. Thank you and keep up the good work.

I do feel things have improved over the last few weeks as there seems to be more staff, especially at the weekends, which is good.

My Great Grandma came to Valley Lodge for respite care. Every time I came to visit her, she told me how friendly and caring all the staff were to her. She also told me how lovely the food was and that it was good home cooked food. My Great Grandma also commented on the fabulous entertainment. The management was always very approachable and available to speak to.
