All the staff at Valley Lodge, from the management right through to the kitchen and laundry staff, have shown an incredibly high level of compassion and tenderness in caring for my mother. In particular, I want to praise the dedication and vigilance shown by the senior carers, including the rigorous administration of medication. It has been heartening to see the whole team apply a friendly and helpful approach to all the residents. The organised activities have been varied and stimulating.

The aftercare for a shoulder replacement required wearing a sling for 24/7 for 4 weeks. Living alone, I decided that Valley Lodge would be a good place to convalesce.
I have not regretted that decision for one minute.
Fortunately, I am mobile and do not need a lot of help but it has been there when required.
All the staff are friendly and helpful and there is a happy atmosphere.
I am impressed by the activities offered - a daily programme, well organised and varied held in a large room, well equipped.

Although I am here for a short time, my experience has been a very happy one.

My mum has been at Valley Lodge for 10 months and is very happy here.
My daughter in law asked me if I could recommend Valley Lodge as parents of a friend of hers were looking for a residential place.

I told her about Valley Lodge and she said she would pass my comments on.

After being ejected from an MHA care home due to lack of nursing care availability, we were rushed into finding a new place for my stepfather. We chose Valley Lodge in Matlock doing the normal checks and visits. We have been absolutely delighted with the care shown to my stepfather. He is always clean and looks so comfortable. He had been mainly bedbound, but now is getting up. The room is lovely, spacious, well decorated, always clean, and with a lovely view over the garden and hills.

The office is also efficient with bright, pleasant staff, who are very accommodating and on hand to help.

We are all very happy to have made this choice.

The staff are lovely and the bedrooms just the right size. Tea and coffee are regularly brought around to residents and there is a range of activities and entertainment. Cleaning is thorough and there are never any unpleasant smells. The atmosphere feels caring. There are occasions when staff numbers are stretched, particularly at weekends. I have not given a score to Management (below) as Management is never visible - something which needs to be addressed.

I am very satisfied with my wife's care. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. I have helped out with the gardening here at Valley Lodge, donating tomato plants. I come three times a week to visit my wife and every time I come I feel quite happy with everything here at Valley Lodge. Management is always there to answer any question that I have and they help me so much.

Living abroad in Australia, I try and visit my mother annually and make regular phone calls from abroad.
The staff are very friendly and co-operative and efficient both telephonically and during my visits.

Mum is well cared for, she seems happy and well fed which is a credit to Valley Lodge. She had a lovely, homely bedroom and bathroom. It would be, if possible, made enjoyable to have regular outdoor excursions to the Park - of course only if mum is up to it. Valley Lodge is a home from home. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Most things are satisfactory, however, I do feel my mother who suffers from dementia would at times, like and need a little more support when she's feeling lost and lonely.
I appreciate one to one care is not possible as the carers are so busy, and on the whole, do the very best they can to support patients, a few excel at this.

I do feel things have improved over the last few weeks as there seems to be more staff, especially at the weekends, which is good.

My Great Grandma came to Valley Lodge for respite care. Every time I came to visit her, she told me how friendly and caring all the staff were to her. She also told me how lovely the food was and that it was good home cooked food. My Great Grandma also commented on the fabulous entertainment. The management was always very approachable and available to speak to.

I visit my mother weekly along with my father. We always get a warm welcome from the staff. There is a lovely family atmosphere in the unit and my mother is treated with patience and dignity at all times. We particularly enjoyed our afternoon tea party on the 5th of June when family were invited to join the residents. Many thanks to all staff involved.

The staff are very nice. Some have become like family and I trust them. However, there seems to be a lot of agency staff (who are still nice) but this means that there aren't as many specialist dementia carers.

Residents on the unit often do not get down for entertainment and repairs takes ages to be done. But it's the friendly staff I love and I would not have my grandad anywhere else.

I have been coming for 3.5 years to the lunch club and have made many friends including the residents who I go and chat with in the lounge.

The activities coordinator is very helpful and nothing is too much trouble for anybody and is on the go all the time.

I am Rebecca and am delighted to be the manager of Valley Lodge.

I am a registered nurse and like nothing more than getting stuck into care.

I believe that one of my main roles as a manger is to invest in the staff so that they are confident and competent in their role. By doing this, the staff are then able to deliver outstanding care to our residents.

I also believe that we are here to live every day to the full and so this is the ethos of the home.

When I am not at work I have 3 fabulous daughters and 3 dogs (plus assortment of other animals!) who I love to walk in the local woodland.

Hi, I’m Phoebe! I absolutely love having a good chat and getting to know the families and individuals that give us a ring. My goal is to make the process of finding the right home as easy and reassuring as possible.

This is something close to my heart — I’ve had two of my own family members stay within our group, so I truly understand how important it is to feel confident and comfortable in your choice.

If you call us during the week, chances are you’ll get me on the other end of the phone. I’m always happy to answer any questions you have — and if I don’t know the answer right away, I’ll make it my mission to find out for you. I’ll be here for you every step of the way, making sure you feel supported, listened to, and at ease.
