Karen always has a very ‘open-door policy', and a ‘hands-on approach’ and wants the best for the residents and all the staff in her team. The Activities Team say that “they feel that they are valued and supported role across the whole team because of the enthusiasm and encouragement of Karen”.
Katty is our Senior Nurse Manager; she supports the Registered Manager, Karen, in leading the team across Abbeydale and Stanley House.
Katty was born in Sweden and came to the UK in 1994 as an Au-Pair, she then trained as a nurse in Suffolk and qualified in 1999. She has had a varied career, including a large proportion of her time spent working in Public Health and in 2016 decided to move into Health and Social Care and take up a post in a Nursing Home. She joined the team at Abbeydale and Stanley House in 2018.
Katty is passionate about delivering safe and effective care to residents. She enjoys working with the staff to ensure everyone is treated as an individual with kindness and respect.
One of our Deputy Managers says “the nurses find Katty knowledgeable and approachable. I personally find her knowledgeable and a calming influence and a great support in my development as a Deputy Manager”.
Time away from work Katty enjoys going away in her motorhome, walking the dog, and riding her bike. Katty also loves cooking and socialising with friends. Katty has also been involved in many fundraising events over the years, including organising local fun dog shows.
Cat is the Admin for Abbeydale, and began working here in March 2022. Prior to this role, Cat worked as an Admin for a Dairy Office in the West Midlands and has also been Self-Employed while running her own Dog Grooming Business.
Cat’s role within the Nursing Home involves supporting the team as a whole with any Administrative tasks required. Cat organises staff training courses for in-house training, and monitors online training for staff across both homes. Cat prides herself on creating a warm and professional environment for any visitors to the Home, both in-person and over the phone.
Cat says: “I was drawn to Abbeydale and Stanley House Nursing Homes as the staff were very kind and approachable, and instantly made me feel welcome. After working here for a while, it is plain to see how much all the staff truly care about the residents, and I am honoured to be a part of the team.
I live in Derby with my husband, and my dog Bean. I am originally from the West Midlands, and I moved here to study at the University of Derby. I completed my undergrad in Psychology and went on to do a Post-graduate diploma in Applied Health Sciences. In my spare time, I enjoy running and I am currently attempting to complete the NHS “Couch to 5K” programme”.
