The Laurels care home is supported by a dedicated team, many with over 10 years’ experience, enriching residents’ lives every day. The home offers residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, plus respite breaks that can be booked in advance.

Activities include baking, quizzes and games on the Magic Table - an innovative technology for people living with dementia, encouraging gentle movement and friendly competition. Residents also play an active role in home life through ambassador roles, helping interview staff and welcoming new residents.

This summer, residents grew fruit, vegetables and herbs in the garden, harvesting produce for the chef to use in meals. Crops included onions, tomatoes, strawberries and blackberries, and some residents helped prepare vegetables and make fruit milkshakes and cocktails.

Dining is a highlight, with home-cooked meals such as roast dinners, fish and chip Fridays and freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea. Popular treats include homemade chocolate fudge and cheese scones.

The local community is actively involved, with students and volunteers visiting regularly. The home also features a hair salon for appointments with a mobile hairdresser and welcoming lounges for activities and time with loved ones, who are welcome to visit anytime.

Proud to be veteran-friendly

The Laurels has achieved Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) status, supporting the practical, emotional and social needs of the armed forces community. The VFF is a collaboration between Royal Star & Garter, Royal British Legion and NHS Veterans’ Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA).

I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff at laurels nursing home for the care & compassion they have shown for our mum & to us in the 5 months she was a resident in their care. Our mum suffered from dementia & sometimes she wasn't an easy person to deal with but the staff dealt with it with
so much understanding, something we couldn't do at home. Thank you again
Reply from Jacob Hardie, Design and Marketing Assistant at The Laurels Residential and Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback. My lovely wife and soul mate was admitted to the Laurels nursing home when the council decided to close down several homes in their possession, so my wife was transferred to the Laurels, she had later stages of dementia, and was treated like part of the family there, all of the staff were absolutely
brilliant in the understanding of this horrible disease and I thank them all from the bottom of my heart for all of their kindness and dedication to their jobs, they looked after all of my family when we were visiting, I would thoroughly recommend this home
Reply from Jacob Hardie, Design and Marketing Assistant at The Laurels Residential and Nursing HomeThank you for sharing such moving feedback. My beautiful mum has been at the laurels for a short period of 5 months. Whilst mum was there she suffered terribly with dementia.
My mum was always treated with the upmost respect and dignity that she deserved.
Without the staff here my mums last few weeks would not have been the same.
From our
family, we would like to share our deepest thanks from the bottom of our hearts.
This home definitely deserves 10/10.
Well done staff at this wonderful home and thank you xxxxx

My mum moved in here a year ago. She had been very ill and could no longer live independently. From the very start, the staff of all levels could not do enough for her. She was reluctant to be here in the begining but because of the way she was treated, settled in really well. She has thrived since
being here and is the healthiest she has been for years. She feels safe and I do not have to worry about her getting ill as it is dealt with straight away. She enjoys the food and I am convinced the home cooked meals have played a big part in her recovery.

I have been a resident here for allmost a year, I was very ill when I came but with their kindness and care I have gradually improved. The food is very good and there is plenty of choice. I was made to feel at home immediately and the carers and nurses have been very kind and caring. I feel like one
of the family. If I am ill it is dealt with immediately and I feel safe and secure.

We were all worried when Mum went into respite care when we went on holiday. She had had numerous falls at home and lost her confidence. From the moment we stepped into the Laurels, we were welcomed. The staff are all amazing. Within a few hours, Mum knew she wanted to stay. She has a lot of friends,
has her 'glow' back and is being cared for by the lovely staff. Thank you!

Mum went into a care home for respite, it was like a hotel, but soon found out the care wasn't there. She ended up in the hospital through neglect, and he health and spirits declined. We thought we had lost her a few times, but she was not able to come back to live with me because her needs were too
high. So I had to look for dementia nursing care. I visited lots and every time I ended up crying in the car park because none were suitable, I was becoming very disheartened until I visited The Laurels Nursing Home, I just knew straight away the manager and staff have such care and empathy. Mum moved in a week later, and like a miracle, she improved so much, but I now feel content knowing Mum is well cared for by the amazing staff. I now know I've chosen the best place for Mum, it's taken all the care and worrying from me. Thank you.
Reply from Jacob Hardie, Design and Marketing Assistant at The Laurels Residential and Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind words. The staff look after the residents very well. The food is good and varied. It is always warm and comfortable. The home is well-decorated on the inside but the outside could do with a little attention. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a care home for a family member.

My mother is in very poor health and I was dreading Xmas. Most likely her last Xmas with us and also her first one in a care home. Honestly, the home couldn't have done more to ensure the festivities were filled with love, joy and fun. A member of staff dressed as Santa on the day and me and my sister
cried happy tears when he surprised my mum with a visit on the big day. This epitomised the exceptional care my mum receives at the Laurels. The Manager's door is always open and welcoming should I have worries about my mum. What I thought was going to be a sad place to visit has become my happy place, as I make treasured memories.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.911)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.911) out of 10 for The Laurels Residential and Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.911 for The Laurels Residential and Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (216 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 237 Ratings = 4.911
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Laurels Residential and Nursing Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
