The Laurels care home is supported by a dedicated team, many with over 10 years’ experience, enriching residents’ lives every day. The home offers residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, plus respite breaks that can be booked in advance.

Activities include baking, quizzes and games on the Magic Table - an innovative technology for people living with dementia, encouraging gentle movement and friendly competition. Residents also play an active role in home life through ambassador roles, helping interview staff and welcoming new residents.

This summer, residents grew fruit, vegetables and herbs in the garden, harvesting produce for the chef to use in meals. Crops included onions, tomatoes, strawberries and blackberries, and some residents helped prepare vegetables and make fruit milkshakes and cocktails.

Dining is a highlight, with home-cooked meals such as roast dinners, fish and chip Fridays and freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea. Popular treats include homemade chocolate fudge and cheese scones.

The local community is actively involved, with students and volunteers visiting regularly. The home also features a hair salon for appointments with a mobile hairdresser and welcoming lounges for activities and time with loved ones, who are welcome to visit anytime.

Proud to be veteran-friendly

The Laurels has achieved Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) status, supporting the practical, emotional and social needs of the armed forces community. The VFF is a collaboration between Royal Star & Garter, Royal British Legion and NHS Veterans’ Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA).

At the beginning it was a worrying, stressful decision to make, to have to put my dad into a nursing home. The Laurels helped loads with the transition. They were very informative and tentative to my dad's needs. I would highly recommend this nursing home.

The Laurels Residential and Nursing Home cared for my dad in his last days and hours. Following a massive stroke, which happened whilst he was there on respite, he was discharged from the hospital for twenty-four-hour nursing care. The care and attention given to his comfort and well-being were second
to none. Family members were also looked after and shown compassion at a very difficult time. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Our own well-being was also taken into consideration, we were fed and watered so we could concentrate on spending valuable time with Dad. I could not praise everyone enough, it made a very difficult time more bearable. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

My husband came to The Laurels in mid-November 2022 with Parkinson's, very bad mobility and very slight dementia. Whenever I visit, which is often, I find him well cared for. On the whole, myself, daughter and son are happy with The Laurels' care.

My aunt was very nervous on arrival but was soon put at ease. The staff all gave her lots of care and attention and she's now a different person, relaxed and settled. She's made a lot of friends and loves her craft work. I don't need to worry about her as I know she's in good hands and I'm always informed
of any problems.

I moved here with my mum who I lost in August. We were together and we were happy. I am still happy. I catch buses to Denby and Nottingham. I recently joined the library.

My Mum needed more care following a fall. She moved into The Laurels from
Cottage Hospital. The Manager, Deputy and all of their staff could not have been more caring or compassionate with my Mum and with us. You walk in the door and are met with smiles and offers of help. These are people people
who care. Impressive.

My brother has been a resident at The Laurels for four years. He is well looked after by all the staff and seems settled. All the staff did an excellent job during the Covid lockdown. As we live in Scotland, we are assured that he is in good hands and receiving excellent care.

After having a dreadful experience at another home, myself and my family are so pleased with the care my nana is receiving at The Laurels. The staff are friendly and caring and always go above and beyond to be accommodating and show such kindness to my lovely nana. It is always a happy, clean and welcoming
environment, and we could not be happier - thank you so much.

Visited my mother on her 101st Birthday. Only the second visit this year due to covid and I live in Wales. Very pleased with the care she receives but disappointed that her room hasn't been updated since she first went there. Also disappointed in the state of the gardens. Could do with a gardener- we
pay enough. More than satisfied with the care from the staff.

My friend has been in the home for a couple of years now and if it was left to her she would stay in bed all day, thankfully she is regularly taken to join the other residents for some company. There are always mid-morning drinks brought to her when she does choose to stay in bed. The staff are always
very cheerful with residents and visitors alike.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.887)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.887) out of 10 for The Laurels Residential and Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.912 for The Laurels Residential and Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (207 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 227 Ratings = 4.912
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Laurels Residential and Nursing Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
