Harley Grange is a caring place to be. Staff are kind and nothing is too much trouble. Activities are varied and inclusive despite the many residents with profound care needs - visitors are welcomed and made to feel part of the team. I was desperately worried about mum going into a home but also knew
it had to happen because her care needs became so great - Harley Grange relieved my worry.

Harley Grange employs an events activities organisers who comes in regularly to engage the residents in various activities. They make crafts, go out on trips eg. to see Christmas lights. They hold events for fundraising and take residents out for meals.
There are organised coffee mornings, remembrance
service, Christmas carol singing etc. This events lady gets relatives involved using their talents, resources eg. I go in to play piano for the residents. They are having a lady in who is well named a 'Laughter facilitator'. These all contribute to the mental well-being of the residents.

I believe, when someone has internal illness, I think you should have an alternative way of cleaning the patient and changing the bedding to avoid any discomfort. Overall the care home is high-class accommodation. The staff were very nice and spoke politely and helped me when I asked. They made me feel
very welcome when I visited my dad. Thank you for all your help and support.

Choosing the right Nursing Home for an ageing relative is a daunting task for anyone and it took my sister and I a couple of weeks to decide on Harley Grange for our Mum. After 6 weeks or so in the hospital it was such a relief to get her into somewhere where she actually received the attention she
needed. When we were checking various places what we saw here impressed us the most and, although she was only there for a few days before passing away and didn’t get to use the facilities, we knew they were there if by some miracle she lasted long enough to enjoy them.
We couldn’t praise the attitudes of the staff highly enough and we were treated like family. All of the staff that we saw were lovely and we would like to say a big thank you to the nurse that we saw dealing with her the most often in the short time she was there. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place.

I visited Harley Grange on the recommendation of the hospital's discharge team. A former neighbour had been very happy there a few years ago and I was delighted to find that the home is still as good as it was then. A warm, clean, safe and friendly environment for my aunt to move into, giving me peace
of mind that she will be cared for as an individual.

Attentive nurses, very caring carers, I know that I can happily leave my mother in Harley Grange's Care. I know she will be cared for in all aspects, it means I can sleep at night with peace of mind. Food is of a high standard, wholesome and endless cups of tea which mum loves. She is treated with dignity
at all times. Her room is always clean, fresh bedding. Daytime activities are good for mum, keeps her mind occupied.

I am fairly satisfied the way things are run. It is a nice clean home. My observations over the past 16 months regarding the staffing levels is a concern. I feel sorry for some of the carers because they work very hard and occasionally overloaded, which is a situation in most care homes I am sure.

Sister admitted to the home after semi-paralysis sustained due to the spinal injury. Family discussed a care plan with the manager and it was regularly reviewed and monitored. Requests for specialists accessories were followed through by the care team. Quality of care was reasonable but food choice
could be improved.
Reply from HC-One, Careline Team at Harley Grange Care HomeThank you for your review, your feedback is helpful in improving our services. At Harley Grange we have a daily menu which has varied meals and meets diverse dietary needs if service users do not prefer what is on the menu this can be changed and as meals are home made on site, the chef is happy to cater for other choices and preferences on a daily basis. My sincere apologies that you feel food choices could be improved we will take on board your suggestion by working closely with my kitchen, residents and hospitality team to ensure food choices are improved, and ensure this is better communicated to all services users.

My Father-in-Law has been a resident since November 2015. Since he's been here the care has been to a high standard, however I do wish they would try different alternatives to encourage him to get out of bed each day. My father-in-law is quite happy laying in bed all day but this is no good for his
chest, pressure areas and most of all his mental state. I wish more engagement from the staff was offered with regards to activities and socialising.

We would like to thank you for your kind comments and will pass them back to the staff team. We are currently recruiting a new Activities Organiser and will introduce the successful candidate to all residents and relatives on commencement of employment. Also we will ensure the team during this time offer more engagement to your Father and other residents at the home.

My mother was happy during her two year plus residence at Harley Grange, the staff were cheerful and caring towards her, in her nineties, and other residents she particularly enjoyed outings and staff or volunteer organised activities, she said "this is the best place for me at this stage I'm happy
living here". With this warm positive atmosphere I would certainly recommend this care home as would other family members who made regular visits.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.572)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.572) out of 10 for Harley Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.722 for Harley Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (124 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 162 Ratings = 4.722
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Harley Grange Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
