My wife has been resident here for about 6 years. In that time, she has received very good care. I have visited almost every day and always made welcome.

I don't think that I could have chosen a more appropriate one.

Overall, over a 10-month residence, the standard of care - good and attention is immediate if requested, the doctor attends when requested (over and beyond routine visits). Cheerful care, meals as "family standard" not luxurious but well-balanced and obviously provided within a sensible cost budget.
Acceptable and enjoyed by "my resident" usually. Activities provided frequently with lots of variety and fun, not too taking mentally. Musicians, singers coming in, church service, celebrations noted (both personal birthdays and Christmas). Overall - satisfactory.

Generally, my mum is happy and well cared for. The staff are generally extremely caring and willing to help. Food is excellent and kitchen staff very approachable regarding individual needs and tastes. Activities have improved a great deal over the last year and there is far better planning and communication.

On

occasions, there can be staff difficulties but as a rule, the rest of the staff try not to let it affect their units suffer.

Have had experiences with Bunkers Hill Care Home over many years (10). Initially, my aunt was here, followed by my mum and mow my mother-in-law. As a family, we have been very happy with the care each family member has received. My mother-in-law has been here for the last 3 years and has blossomed since
she has been here. She is a very sociable lady who enjoys the company, activities and food particularly. She has a comfortable room which she has made her home.

Bunkers Hill Care Home has helped tremendously with caring for my dad. He has been cared for there since July 2017 and the care received is excellent. They were catered and continue to cater to all needs and the staff are loving, professional, caring and work so hard.

During the time my mother has loved here (18 months), she has greatly improved in health and wellbeing. She has made many friends and my mother enjoys her excellent activities and entertainments that are provided. Most of the staff are very caring and polite. Most are very dedicated to making sure the
residents are content. There is room for improvement but on the whole, my mother is enjoying living in this home. Families are always made to feel welcome too.

My mother in law became a resident in late 2017 and since that time I have visited her daily and so become quite familiar with the staff and facilities. Firstly, we have found the staff to be caring and highly professional. If I had any criticism, it would be that we rarely have the opportunity to meet
with the care home manager. That said, our relationship with the staff we come into regular contact with is excellent. If ever asked, I would not hesitate to recommend the home to anyone.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother was a resident at Bunkers Hill for 8 years from June 2007 until she passed away aged 94, in June 2015.
She had dementia, which for the last 5 years was advanced. She moved from Residential (mobile persons) in 2010 into Nursing, but for the last 5 years was confined to bed, unable latterly
to even lift her own head off the pillow. By this stage she had advanced dementia not recognising anyone, including her own sons.
When she passed away, she had had no need for a doctor to see her for over 15 months, and during the whole of her time at Bunkers Hill Care Home, never had any health issues relating to her care there.
In spite of her mental condition, she has always been treated with dignity.
I feel it is a testimony of her care, that she lived so long bearing in mind her mental condition and lack of mobility.
I would like to place on record my thanks to the nursing and care staff for looking after my mother so well.

Current Review Score: 7.8 (7.839)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.8 (7.839) out of 10 for Bunkers Hill Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.208 for Bunkers Hill Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (47 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.208
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.631 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bunkers Hill Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 78 registered maximum number of service users is 15.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 15.6 = 0.256
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
