Christmas in a care home is never easy. Mm was made to feel included in all the activities. We were able to spend the day, have lunch with mum. Staff are kind and polite, nothing seems to be a problem. Any concerns are met and dealt with by the home manager.

My brother has had a short stay in Madeira House whilst he was assessed for appropriate care.
Unfortunately Madeira could not fulfil his nursing needs, but I would recommend this Care Home for its safe, clean and friendly environment. Julie and her staff went above and beyond to assist and provide
my brother and myself with peace of mind and lots of advice for his future well being.
I cant thank them all enough.
Reply from Jack Titterton, Home Manager at Madeira House Residential Care HomeThanks for the feedback given. As a home we continue to deliver care in a safe environment for all our residents. The timely referral for need assessment ensured that your brother was placed in nursing care. I was grateful to find a safe place for my mother following a fall at home. The manager was accommodating and helped regarding our needs. Generally we had a positive experience; the chef was very obliging and made a special effort with residents' needs. Staff also friendly and helpful. The manager was
always visible which was reassuring. On the negative side, my mother found noise levels from dementia clients was obtrusive, although she appreciated the issues with this. Small details like no soap in toilet also.
Reply from Paul Lawson, Head of Sales and Marketing at Madeira House Residential Care HomeThank-you very much for your positive experience at Madeira House. We are delighted to have been able to assist your dear mum. Thank-you also for raising the other points which we will feedback to our team. My brother and I have today been to celebrate my father's 80th birthday.
Julie and her team have ensured he was clean, dressed and comfortable in the lounge for our arrival and then made a lovely fuss of him for his birthday.
Julie, Ryan and the chef (apologies I have forgotten his name) really
stood out to us and we are both so grateful for your care of our Dad. He is so vulnerable with his frailty and dementia, and we know that he can be very challenging, so thank you to you all - today and every day xxx

Unfortunately, my father was only in Madeira House for a short time. However, during this time the staff showed great care, concern and compassion. They tended to all of his needs. I was so pleased I had made the correct decision choosing this home.
Many thanks to Julie and all the staff.

A lovely home which from the outside doesn't look as 'posh' as other care homes, but has definitely a home from home atmosphere/environment. My mother had a few issues to start with but the managers and seniors sorted these out straight away.

my dad recently came into the care home initially for respite, but loved it so much he ended up staying. The staff are fantastic, the meals are amazing- I have not seen my dad this happy in years I get daily messages but instead of telling me how depressed he is it is to tell me how happy he is now.
There are daily activities which he enjoys- I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a placement for a family member- oh forgot to mention his room is fabulous too - thanks to everyone for changing his life xx

Sadly our experience of Madeira House care home hasn't been a positive one. Our loved one has often been neglected; lack of care and compassion. Many issues with members of staff and management. On many occasions our relatives personal care has not been satisfactory, drinks weren't always available
and the general cleanliness was poor. The home seem to offer many activities for the more abled residents but hugely lacking in care all round. Some staff have been helpful and genuinely care but others don't appear to have the correct training and skills needed.

I am very happy with the care staff. Glad to see the building is finally being upgraded and they have been keeping on top of the garden. I am always informed if there is a problem and can tell the staff genuinely care about the residents. Entertainment is improving again, which is good. Food is also
improving. The yellow tops are awful, it would be nicer for the staff to have the older colours.

Mum is settled and happy in Madeira House. The staff are very good with her and the manager is always there if we have any questions or issues. On attending the visitors and relatives meeting I feel confident that the manager and the team have plans to improve things. You can see that the building needs
some improvement but things are starting to get done. Mum told me that the staff are her new extended family. Please keep up the good work team.

Still waiting for a refund for nearly £2500 of overpaid fees, 80 days after my father died after the promised payment period came and went. Communications are awful, emails are ignored. The home staff are lovely people who do their level best to care for the residents, but badly underfunded and considering
the home fees came to £1100 a week, the home is very run down.

I was admitted to Madeira House Residential Care Home for rehabilitation (after a leg injury) during October to December 2023. Right from the start, I was totally impressed by the pleasant and relaxed surroundings and particularly grateful for the warmth and compassion of the care staff. Thinking back
on my own career as a university lecturer, I greatly appreciated the professional dedication, attention and commitment of all those involved in the well-being of the residents (including cleaning ladies and ancillary staff). The quality of the food and catering was excellent. I have absolutely no hesitation in completely recommending Madeira House to potential future residents.

During my stay at Madeira House, the staff have been fantastic. The care has been great and this is all the staff, they have been considerate and caring and nothing was too much trouble. They have helped me become mobile and independent and this has made it possible to return home.
The only things
that reduced the stars were the food was not always great and a little monotonous. The only other thing was my room sometimes was cold, they always offered me blankets it was mentioned to move to a different room which was down by the lounges and dining room, but would have been noisy while the room I was nice and quiet which is how I liked it.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.180)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.180) out of 10 for Madeira House Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.305 for Madeira House Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (109 Excellents x 5) + (59 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (14 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 197 Ratings = 4.305
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Madeira House Residential Care Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
