During my stay at Madeira House, the staff have been fantastic. The care has been great and this is all the staff, they have been considerate and caring and nothing was too much trouble. They have helped me become mobile and independent and this has made it possible to return home.
The only things
that reduced the stars were the food was not always great and a little monotonous. The only other thing was my room sometimes was cold, they always offered me blankets it was mentioned to move to a different room which was down by the lounges and dining room, but would have been noisy while the room I was nice and quiet which is how I liked it.

All the staff are fantastic at this care home and always go above and beyond for everyone. The activities team are fabulous, always trying their best to put on events for the people that live at the home. I am retired now, but it warms my heart to be able to donate to the home and give back to the residents.

I am so grateful to the staff team and manager at Madeira House. They have provided great support to my mum and have always been really supportive and caring. Since new the new management have begun work it’s been great to see the positive changes around the home. The home has started to feel like a
home and not just a care home.
Thank you all so much for the hard work you do and a big thank you to the manager for being so approachable and caring. Seeing Mum happy means the world to me and my family.

Such a shame to hear the news that the manager is leaving, she truly is one of a kind and has brought Madeira House up from the ground. She is so kind and compassionate with everyone and there is no one that could replace her, can’t thank her enough for looking after my nana, but also our whole family
at the same time. Madeira House will not be the same without you.
Reply from Claire Stainton, Home Manager at Madeira House Residential Care HomeI would like to thank you so much for your kind review, I am greatly saddened that this is a choice I have had to make and a choice which was not easy to make. However, I am confident that the new manager will continue with all the hard work and care that has taken place over the years and the staff are amazing and will continue to care for and support our residents in the best way they can.
kindest regards.

Overall I am quite happy with the care home. It is quite run down and needs a lot of updating. My mum's room is very poor. The staff and manager are lovely. The food is very good. There have been a few occasions where the care could be better.
Reply from Claire Stainton, Home Manager at Madeira House Residential Care HomeThank you Sandra for your review, your points have been noticed and this has been actioned regarding the updating of the home we are currently in the process of modernising the home. Please feel that if there are occasions where the care has not been to your standard do not hesitate to discuss this with me as I am very committed to ensuring that all the residents are receiving the highest standard of care whilst residing in our home.
Again I would like to thank you for your honest review and hope any improvements within the home will be shown in the very near future.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the manager and staff. I was conversing with the manager from Australia in relation to the care of my uncle. The manager was amazing, extremely patient, helpful and understanding. I have since returned to UK and have found the staff at the care home to be
extremely professional and caring.
I cannot speak highly enough of the manager and her staff. Thank you.
Reply from Arineh, Marketing Executive at Madeira House Residential Care HomeWe are happy that you had a pleasant experience with the home manager and staff at the home, they are dedicated to making sure that your uncle is comfortable and is provided with an excellent level of care during his stay, so they will be glad to hear your positive response. My father came to Madeira House in October 2021 with various health issues and needed full-time care. I had no doubts he was well looked after in every way and nothing was ever too much for the staff. As we live over 200 miles away it was so important for us to be kept up to date on a regular basis
and they always did this. As well as this being a beautiful home, the staff are outstanding. I spoke regularly with two members of staff and felt so comfortable knowing they were caring for my dad. The manager is lovely - if ever you need to place a relative in a home for permanent or short-term care I cannot recommend Madeira House enough.

I was very unsure of choosing Maderia House as we had had a very unpleasant time there 20 years ago with my grandma. After visiting the home in December 2021 I was more than happy for my mother-in-law to reside there. The home was welcoming, bright, clean and didn't smell. The staff, especially the
manager, were amazing in our short time there. We can't than them enough for the care and support they gave - thank you.

My mother has been in Madeira for two and a half years now with dementia and I can only say I am so pleased we picked this home for her.
She is so well cared for, nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they are so friendly. They have made myself and my siblings at ease with having had to make
the daunting choice to place mum in a home, they truly are caring.
I am always kept up to date with anything that may crop up no matter how trivial it may seem and the staff are always there to help me with any queries I may have and point me in the right direction if I feel I need to talk to anyone at the home or outside should it be the doctors or adult social care.
I can honestly say I would not want mum to go anywhere else and would happily recommend Madeira to anyone who feels it is time to have a loved one placed into a care home.

My nanna came to this home after being in hospital. She was well treated and made to feel comfortable. The girls were all very friendly with her especially the young activities coordinator who went above and beyond to make my nanna feel at ease. The lovely lady did all she could to make sure all her
needs was met to a professional standard and I will be forever grateful. All staff made sure that myself and my family was involved in my nanna's care keeping us up to date with how she was doing. Also, I would like to add after following the Facebook page I can clearly see the activities team brings such joy and excitement to the residents, there is always a different activity being held, residents all get involved with this which is such a pleasure to see. What a lovely idea to share with everyone. It's noted how happy the residents are and enjoy it at the care home. I would recommend this care home and would like to personally thank Madeira House for making my nanna feel well looked after.

My grandfather came to this home after losing his beloved wife, the staff at the home made him feel very comfortable and catered to all his needs in a professional high standard.
The home is very homely and each person is treated as an individual and all care is person-centred. They are like one big
family at the home.
All the staff at the home are amazing and do their utmost to ensure the residents are well cared for and are safe.
The staff ensure that all friends and family are involved in their relatives care and encourage their involvement.
The activities team at the home are outstanding and there is always something going on every day.
Although the manger is new, she has become one of the family and is doing an outstanding job and has made many positive changes that benefit the residents daily.
I can not fault the care that is given to my grandad and I am most grateful to each and every one of the staff within the home as he is very settled and enjoys living at Madeira House.

I checked on my service user daily as he was for 10 days in the home. I was very happy, as after 2 days I saw that he was taken good care of. Sure home care is always better as if he can be even more personalised but Madeira House showed me, if he ever had to go into a home he would have a decent time
and be well looked after. Madeira House looked friendly, colourful and cosy, clean and it smelled nice. I can't comment on value for money or food as I have not been involved in these.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.332)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.332) out of 10 for Madeira House Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.382 for Madeira House Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (140 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (14 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 233 Ratings = 4.382
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Madeira House Residential Care Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
