Someone living with our definition of "mild dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Memory problems such as misplacing items and not be able to recall recent events (however, in some forms of dementia a person's memory may be unchanged)
- Difficulties thinking through problems and planning, making decisions
- Language and communication issues such as finding it difficult to recall the appropriate word in a conversation or following a conversation
- Poor orientation, getting lost in areas previously familiar to them
- Difficulty judging distances (more falls than usual)
- Changes in their normal mood including anxiety and depression
- In certain types of dementia, personality and behaviour changes may be present alongside or instead of issues with memory or concentration.
Moderate Dementia
Someone living with our definition of "moderate dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Worsened memory problems. Not always recognising own family members and friends. Repeating the same questions over and over again
- Worsened language and communication issues, forgetting what they are saying mid-sentence. Not being able to understand what someone else is saying
- More frequent confusion, e.g. about the time of day or where they are, including their own home
- Apathy, depression and anxiety
- Believing things that aren't true (paranoia)
- Frequent hallucinations
- Lack of emotional control, quick to anger, fearfulness, sadness
- Loss of inhibition
- Difficulties sleeping or waking during the night and behaving as though it is daytime - loss of circadian rhythm.
Advanced Dementia
Someone living with our definition of "severe dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Severe memory problems. Not recognising family members and friends. Not being able to recall their own name
- Severe language and communication issues, not being able to understand what someone else is saying
- Severe confusion, e.g. about the time of day or where they are, including their own home
- Apathy, depression and anxiety
- Believing things that aren't true (paranoia)
- Frequent hallucinations
- Lack of emotional control, quick to anger, fearfulness, sadness
- Loss of inhibition
- Difficulties sleeping or waking during the night and behaving as though it is daytime - loss of circadian rhythm.
Verbally or physically aggressive behaviour
If your loved one displays this type of behaviour you may need a care home that has specially trained staff. Verbal/physical aggression is often defined:
- Consistent shouting and screaming
- Verbal abuse
- Physical abuse

Overall Experience
The carers are lovely and look after me well. The nurses are brilliant, the food is wonderful I enjoy my meals everyday. I am very happy living at Nettleton Manor.

My father has been a resident at Nettleton Manor since October 2016. He has dementia and gets confused easily.
Throughout his time at Nettleton Manor, he has thrived. He is happy, well fed, in good physical health and enjoys the company of both the staff and other residents.

My dad loves to play the piano and despite having dementia he is still able to do this and is encouraged to do so.

Overall Experience
Our Dad has been a resident at Nettleton Manor since September 2016, after it became clear he could no longer manage to live independently and needed professional care. We have been very happy with the care Dad receives. There is a homely and welcoming atmosphere. He's well looked after, the staff are cheerful and kind, the food is freshly prepared and good, and it's reassuring for us to know that nursing staff are on hand all the time. During a recent visit, there was a 'keep fit' class in progress which everyone seemed to be enjoying - I certainly enjoyed watching!

Overall Experience
My husband is suffering with Alzheimer's and has been at Nettleton Manor for a little over a year now and I have to say that I am very happy with the treatment he is receiving. Every aspect of his care from the carers to the nursing staff are excellent and I have absolutely no issues at all with his wellbeing.
I would recommend this home to anyone as the staff are kind, the food is good and the atmosphere is warm and friendly.

Overall Experience
Since I've been here I've been a part of the family from day one. I've never felt I've belonged anywhere but I settled in so well and was accepted by the other residents and all of the staff straight away. My family comment on my healthy weight gain and how I'm happier overall. I find the food to be excellent and we have regular menu changes so it doesn't get boring. If I ever need anything the staff will inform my family straight away so I'm never waiting long.

Overall Experience
It's excellent to stay here. The staff are excellent. I love it here and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. The food is very good, overall Nettleton Manor is brilliant!
