St Paul's Care Home

I cannot rate St Paul's Care Home highly enough, although Mum was only there for a short time and compared to her previous nursing home St Paul's is absolutely fantastic. The staff, management and facilities are superior to any other home I have visited, full praise and highly recommended.

My mother was admitted to St Paul's for respite care under difficult and sensitive circumstances. The experience from pre-admission to her return home was excellent. Most importantly she was shown great warmth and kindness by care staff from the moment she arrived. Both management and staff treated my mother and our family with such kindness respect and sensitivity - we were extremely fortunate to find ourselves at St. Paul's. The staff always had time to talk and despite being clearly busy there was always a chuckle to be had or time for a story to be told. Additionally advice and liaison with other services was efficient professional and always appropriate. There is genuinely a family feel here, the place oozes warmth and calm. Our grateful thanks go to the manager, care staff, nursing staff, house keepers and the chef's team - you should be so proud of what you do!

My nana has always been well cared for at St Paul's. The staff are always welcoming when we visit her; it is always like one big family. The care is excellent, which is most important. The activities for her are geared around things she can do.

Mum was placed here from the hospital for palliative care. The manager was very approachable, helpful and caring and arranged everything efficiently. The staff are lovely and treated Mum with kindness, care and compassion. Thank you to everyone.

Having recently returned to my home after spending a week at St Paul’s Care Home, I would like to compliment every aspect of the care, kindness, compassion, understanding and advice for the future received from all members of staff. I am very grateful to everyone.

This home is listed as MND experience, however, I did not find this was a suitable home for my mother, who has MND.

MND is a neurological condition that has a lot of equipment. The paralysis that happens requires all-round access to the bed for positioning; however, the rooms at St Paul's are very small, the bed pushed against the wall, and just not suitable for this type of condition. Mum has no speech, only an eye gaze to communicate, no ability to call a call bell and would be left screaming trying to call for help. The staff were pleasant and polite, but with no experience of this condition, there was no help or solutions in enabling communication and need for help. As this is a degenerative condition leaving patients choking on secretions, this is not suitable for the comfort or safety of patients. I moved Mum after 2-weeks. It is nice, and the staff did their best with what they had, but really not suitable for degenerative neurological conditions.

Room was large but rather dated, no en-suite. Building generally in need of updating and re-decorating that said it's not the most important aspect.

Sadly she passed away after fives days, but that short period allowed me to begin to come to terms with the inevitable outcome.

During the time my mother has been a resident at St Pauls her health and wellbeing has improved greatly. With any medical problems being dealt with quickly by the nurse. The staff are caring and professional and deal with the residents, some of whom can be difficult, with dignity and good humour.

The activities coordinator organises a programme of games and keep fit classes, special events, plus trips out weather permitting. There is a BBQ in the summer, a Christmas Fete, Panto, Carol service and fundraising events for the residents comfort fund, to which family and friends are invited to attend.

There is a small garden which my mother loves to sit in on warm summer days, although a little on the small side, mum's room is kept clean and we have been encouraged to make it as homely as possible for her. The home is well managed and the standard of care is very good.

I am very happy in this home. The staff are first class. The only thing I find a bit difficult is remembering all the staff's names, to me, they are Love or Darling. I'm looking forward to a long stay.

Our father became a resident in April 2008. He was joined by our mother firstly as a day visitor then a respite resident before becoming a permanent resident in 2012. The staff treated our parents with courtesy at all times. They were able to move to a double room immediately one became available. The environment was warm and cosy. The meals were excellent, including our fathers favourite - a full English breakfast. The activities staff frequently took them out e.g in 2 wheelchairs around the village, to a country pub and also to a fish and chip restaurant near to their previous home. A wonderful Birthday party for 29 guests was held to celebrate our mother's 100th Birthday. St Paul's provided a safe friendly environment for our parents twilight years for which we are truly grateful. They passed away in 2013 (Mother) aad 2016 (Father).

We were very pleased with the care given to my aunt in the 20 months she was living there. She had had a very full life when she went in aged 92 and had looked after her husband until she was 91 so was very tired and couldn't really understand why she was at St. Paul's. She had stopped bothering with food and drank hardly anything and finished up in Hospital for 2 weeks. When she was discharged we got a place for her at St. Paul's for a couple of weeks until she felt able to live independently but she never returned to her home. She was being looked after and was safe and secure and was encouraged to participate in the activities. Myself and her two sons, who live in New Zealand and Surrey always felt confident that she was in safe hands.
