My mother and father were both in this home. My father died of Coronavirus in April. The care is very good, but I find the communication a bit lacking. I have Lasting Power of Attorney for my mother for finance and her welfare but wasn't told that she had 2-tests for Coronavirus by the staff. Additionally,
she has lost many items of clothing, and the quality of food has declined in the last couple of months. Overall, my mother and I are very happy with the care and attention that she receives. I would recommend White Gables.
Reply from Diane Kerwin, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at White Gables Care Home

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We apologise you feel communication from the home was an issue. The Home Manager is available daily by email or phone to discuss any concerns you might have. Our housekeeping team have informed us there are two residents with the same initials, and an offer of laundry ID buttons was made to try to resolve this issue. We aim to provide enjoyable, nutritious meals for all our residents, and I am pleased to say their feedback has been positive. Please be assured resident weights are monitored either weekly or monthly as needed.

My husband was in White Gables for 5 months prior to his passing away. The staff were amazing and words cannot express how grateful myself and our family were for the wonderful care he received. Nothing was too much trouble and he was always dressed in his own clothes. The home is bright and clean and
his room had lovely touches that made him feel at home. I have seen other care homes in the area but White Gables must surely be the best.

My husband was looked after so well, we could not ask for more. He passed away on the second of September and the girls and the manager could not do enough for us.
All his family were so happy with White Gables, they said I could not have found anywhere better for him.

The staff are very friendly and caring. My wife had formed quite a few friendships since she has been a resident. Though some of the night staff need to be a little more compassionate.

I looked at many care homes for my father and it was a real eye-opener! But I struck gold when we decided on White Gables. The home is warm friendly and the staff are fantastic, always cheery. The food is plentiful and looks lovely. His room always clean and tidy. They keep me updated and he is not
the easiest of clients to care for but they do a fantastic job. Even one of the girls nipped out in her lunch break to fetch him his favourite drink from the local shop. So 5 stars to all the staff.

Friendly care home. Well presented, decorated and clean 95% of the staff are friendly and chatty and eager to help if they can. Only negative at the moment is dirty washing isn't cleaned and often wet and dirty washing left in the room for 2-4 days.

Since my wife was brought in I have found the staff to be friendly and helpful. They are really good with my wife, who has dementia and they treat her with respect and dignity. I am always made to feel welcome when I visit with the rest of my family - we are always offered a brew which is really good.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.830)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.830) out of 10 for White Gables Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.494 for White Gables Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (61 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 87 Ratings = 4.494
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.336 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for White Gables Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 11 = 0.636
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
