We are very pleased with the care that my father is receiving. Every member of staff is very helpful and gives 100%. A special mention must go to the nursing staff of the home as they have regularly gone above and beyond to ensure that my father receives the best care from them, and the local GP.
Recently
his condition has worsened requiring him to be moved to the Nursing wing of the home where he has settled in well and is receiving the extra care that he needs.
When an issue with his room, interaction with the staff has been highlighted and mentioned to the senior staff. The issue has been looked into and resolved within a day or 2.
The safety and security of Ashurst Mews is very good and feels safe and secure.
We chose Ashurst Mews due to the friendly staff, location, and knowing that at some point my father would need the extra full time nursing care that the home could provide without having the upheaval of searching and moving to another home.
Reply from Zoe Smith, General manager at Ashurst Mews Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. We are delighted to hear that your father has settled well in the Nursing wing and that our team has been able to provide the additional care and support he needs.

We are especially pleased that the nursing staff's dedication and the support from our local GP have made such a positive difference - your kind words will be passed on to them. It's also reassuring to hear that any issues raised with senior staff have been resolved promptly.

The home is lovely. Staff are very kind and helpful. There are a couple of items I will mention.
The sheets often are too small for the bed. Often my father has a valance on the bed not a sheet and he gets up in the night to straighten it so he not laying on the mattress.
The other thing he complains
about is the food. Everything is cut up too small and the portions can be small. Too be fair, he doesn't ask if he wants more he just complains to me later. He has mentioned the food at the residents meeting. He is concerned that their is no feedback from these meetings
At the present time the activities are limited. Not much happening to keep him 'out of mischief'
Overall the home is well run with caring , professional staff.
Reply from Zoe Smith, General manager at Ashurst Mews Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for your thoughtful and balanced review. We're very pleased to hear that you find the home lovely and that our team has been kind, caring and professional in supporting your father - that means a great deal to us.

We're also grateful that you've highlighted a few areas where we can improve. Bedding comfort is extremely important, and we're sorry to hear about the issues with the sheets not fitting properly. This is certainly not the standard we expect, and we will be reviewing this to ensure your father's bed is made comfortably and appropriately each day.

Nothing specific to report. Mum continues to be looked after well. She has a tickly cough and has been given honey and lemon. Also, in a meeting on Monday with Judith, I mentioned mum hadn't seen an optician for a long while, and she arranged that straight away.
Mum isn't able to join in many activities
because of her extremely poor eyesight.
Reply from Zoe Smith, General manager at Ashurst Mews Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for your feedback. We're glad to hear that your mum continues to be well looked after and that our team has been able to respond quickly to her needs, including arranging an optician appointment.
We understand how challenging poor eyesight can be for participating in activities, and we will continue to look for ways to ensure your mum remains engaged and comfortable in her daily routine. Your kind words about the care she receives mean a great deal to the team.

Initially we had some concerns over what auntie tells us about what is happening to her ,but we are assured this is due to her dementia after talking to her nurse and the home management. I am sure her care is great from talking to medical staff and we appreciate what a difficult job caring is. We're
happy she is getting all the care she needs.
Reply from Zoe Smith, General manager at Ashurst Mews Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for sharing your thoughts. We completely understand how confusing it can be when a loved one with dementia shares different perspectives, and we're glad that our nursing team and management could reassure you.

It's wonderful to hear that you feel confident your auntie is receiving the care she needs and that you appreciate the dedication of our staff.

I feel like my auntie has received good care and support at Ashurst Mews. She has been there for nearly two years now and has had ups and downs with her health. Staff have supported her needs and tried to encourage her independence. The wellbeing team have taken her out on a few bus trips to the library
and stately homes. Ashurst is clean and welcoming.
From a personal perspective I feel that I have received a lot of support from staff here, in making initial decisions, to hospital appointments and information on my aunties follow up care/medication needs.

In my experience the staff are very helpful, caring and kind. If I have an issue with my mum's care, it is usually dealt with straight away. Mum has been in her room at Ashurst Mews for nearly 6 years and is settled. She loves to sit and look into the beautiful garden, especially as she leaves her room
hardly at all now.

Dad went to live at Ashurst Mews on 6th December 2024. He was later re-located to the first floor as he needed more care. All his furniture and belongings were moved with speed and precision. He was later diagnosed with vascular dementia.Through good days and bad, all the staff treated dad with patience,
understanding, and respect. They laughed with him, kept him in check, fed him, bathed him, and ensured he was clean from bowel movements. He was warm, comfortable and safe. Always safe. I was told by everyone that dad was a gentleman and cheerful. They were kind to his low moods. On Boxing Day 2025, he had a lovely day, ate well and laughed with the staff, and went to sleep. He never woke up. Even though I was out of the country visiting my sister, the communication, help and gentleness from the staff was wonderful, as was how I was welcomed and helped when I returned to clear dad's room. I couldn't have wished for dad to live in a better home for his final year of life.
Reply from Zoe Smith, General manager at Ashurst Mews Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you so much for sharing your heartfelt experience. We are deeply touched by your kind words and are honoured to have cared for your dad during his time at Ashurst Mews.

It means a great deal to know that our team could provide comfort, respect, and dignity through both the good and more challenging days, and that he was able to feel safe, warm, and cared for. We are also grateful that our communication and support could help you feel connected and supported, even while you were away.

I have been coming to Ashhurst Mews Care Home almost every day for 22 months. In that time, I have not met any member of staff who has not given 100%. Everyone in any capacity, from the young girl who pushes the tea trolley very polite and well mannered to the laundry girls, support staff, cleaners,
this must be the cleanest building in Moulton. The carers who really do care, even when working long shifts, are still smiling. The girls on reception are very smart and business-like. As for the nursing team, they really are top and are a credit to their profession. As far as I can see, the home runs like a well-oiled machine, which i believe is down to the management team.
Reply from Rebecca Graham, Manager at Ashurst Mews Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you so much for your kind words. As the Manager of Ashhurst Mews, I'm incredibly proud of the whole team. Every member, from housekeeping and laundry to carers, reception, and nursing, plays a vital role, and your recognition means the world to us. It's heartening to know our efforts have made a positive impact and that our home feels welcoming, clean, and well-run. Your message has been shared with the team and has truly lifted everyone's spirits. Thank you again for your ongoing support, it's very much appreciated

From the moment my father entered Ashurst Mews, he has been treated with dignity, kindness and respect. He has settled extremely well and classes it as his new home. He has made friends and enjoys the friendship he has made with his carers. He enjoys the food and the activities, family are encouraged
to visit and I am always made to feel welcome. They keep me up to speed with everything and we are so pleased with Ashurst; it was very much the right decision to place my father in their care. A huge thanks to all the Ashurst team.

Since my husband has been at Ashurst Mews Care Home he has been cared for excellently. He is always treated with respect and dignity and if I advise the staff on any of his preferences they are always considered and instigated. The home always has a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. His care is
regularly monitored and any changes made accordingly. It is such a comfort to me to know he is cared for so well and as I'm a retired district nurse I have very good experience in this field. Thank you.

The care given to my mum from the day she entered Ashurst to the end of her life was exceptional. Mum was so happy and always expressed that she made the right decision to move from her bungalow to Ashurst where she felt safe and cared for.
New friendships with other residents brightened her days eradicating
the loneliness felt when living on her own with reduced mobility and following the COVID lockdown her loss of confidence to return to her social groups. All the staff were friendly and attentive to both mum and the extended family when visiting.
Words do not seem enough I will forever be thankful for the excellent care given and will always pass on my recommendation to people considering care.

The building is clean, modern yet homely. The assessment process was clear and efficient and the manager showed genuine concern for Mum's well-being. Upon admission, preparing Mum's room with flowers and her personal belongings made it feel like home from home. At a time of stress and sadness when difficult
decisions have to be made, we were made to feel welcome and supported.
I am highly satisfied with the provision of supervision, safety and emotional support (and food!).
I had initially worried that this kind of establishment could be overly corporate, but have been impressed by the genuine empathy and interest from everybody in getting to know Mum as an individual.
I am confident that Mum is receiving the best possible care and attention. It has been a massive relief to be able to leave Mum in the care of the fantastic Ashurst Mews team, across the spectrum from management to maintenance, and to begin to feel like I am her daughter again rather than her carer.

Ashurst Mews is a friendly, welcoming home, where the residents always seem happy and engaged in something fun and enjoyable and the staff invite you in with a smile.
Residents are offered home-cooked food and baked goods throughout the day, which always makes me jealous!
There's always something
going on and the community is regularly welcomed to join in with various events. The staff get involved with dancing and singing along when there's music, or dressing up for themed events and it brings a lovely atmosphere to the home.

My mother entered the home at 98 years of age after a fall. She had slight dementia ' a forgettery, not a memory' she jokingly called it. On her own, she became increasingly anxious even with daily carers and knew she could no longer manage. This anxiety vanished within a week or two of entering the
home when a carer sat with her for 2 or 3 nights until she fell asleep. She was bedridden for the last 15 months of her life and was beautifully nursed by people who already knew and cared for her as a person. I don't think she had any bed sores. She certainly rarely complained of pain, only a few aches in her joints for which a paracetamol was sufficient. She often said to me that the carers were wonderful to her and looked after her so well. She loved the food...it was one of her last pleasures. She rang me once before she was bedridden to thank me for finding her Ashurst Mews. That is high praise! She died two weeks before her 102nd birthday, I am so grateful to you all.

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.660 for Ashurst Mews Care Home - Avery Healthcare is calculated as follows: ( (146 Excellents x 5) + (60 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 212 Ratings = 4.66
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashurst Mews Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2017

Hello, I'm Keeley and I work in the kitchen at Ashurst Mews as Head Chef.

I have actually worked for Avery for 13 years, working in 4 different homes during this time, but I have settled and found my future here at Ashurst Mews where I have now been for 6 years.

Part of my role is to come up with different meals that are both healthy, nutritious and tasty. I tailor the meals to the individual needs and dietary requirements of each resident within the home and make these meals look inviting and the menus appealing.

My favourite thing about my role is seeing the faces of the residents tucking into their food, with my favourite quote being " That was my favourite meal." In my kitchen, I also spend time making sweet treats, for staff birthdays, coffee mornings, visitors and my most enjoyable to make, the resident's birthday cakes. When their faces light up it really makes my day.

Job Title: Receptionist Joined: 2024

I began my career in care at just 15 years old, quickly discovering a genuine passion for supporting others. By the age of 18, I had progressed to Senior and Deputy Manager roles, gaining valuable leadership experience early in my career. After this, I took time to travel and explore different opportunities, trying my hand at a variety of roles, including Log Cabin building and landscaping. However, care has always been where my heart lies, and I have consistently found my way back to the sector.

I joined Avery shortly after the COVID pandemic, bringing with me years of hands-on experience and a strong commitment to resident well-being. Due to a spinal condition, I now work part-time as a Receptionist at Ashurst Mews, where I continue to make a positive difference by offering a warm welcome and ongoing support to residents, families, and colleagues.
Outside of work, I enjoy making wooden crafts and spending time on my boat, which I am currently renovating.
