Fantastic, could not fault anything at Ashurst Mews. The staff, facilities, food and welcome were quite simply amazing. Although my father was only there for two weeks of respite care, we will definitely be going back. In my father's words, "it wasn't five stars, it was six stars. If only all care facilities
were like Ashurst, old and those adults needing care wouldn't feel so frightened about going into care. All the staff we met, it was a great pleasure, and I felt totally reassured".
Reply from Karen Eastwood, Manager at Ashurst Mews Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for taking the time to review our home and for the lovely feedback; I will ensure this is shared with the team. It was our absolute pleasure caring for Dad, and we look forward to seeing you both again in the future.

I love visiting this care home as it really is a home from home for my mum. Everyone is super friendly and caring and there is always a happy atmosphere. Mum can do whatever she wants when she wants and is always treated with respect and dignity. The food is amazing and served in a restaurant environment
complete with flowers and menus.

Ashurst has a happy, warm atmosphere at all times. All staff are conscientious, extremely caring and attentive, helping Mum settle and feel supported. The staff go out of their way to help and always keep us informed. The varied activities are so important to Mum and are always appreciated. The beautiful
garden, spacious lounges and bedrooms are well-maintained, and Mum enjoys the first-rate meals. Many thanks, Ashurst, for the level of care you provide.

From my initial visit and tour of Ashurst, which was unplanned, to my regular visits and calls now, the greeting is professional, welcoming and warm. When I bring Mum back from an appointment or a trip, all of the staff make her feel so welcome and special - that it is truly uplifting and makes the
home feel very caring. We chose Ashurst for its activity programme - things such as the arts and crafts, visits from singers and musicians, armchair keep fit, and outings to local parks have all been a lifeline for Mum - more, please.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming whenever I visit Mum. They treat Mum with a lot of respect and always try and include her in the activities. They always take the time to talk to Mum whenever they see her. Overall the atmosphere is very homely. Perhaps some more interesting activities could

This is the first time I have experience of a care home. It has, for me, been a very happy time and I leave with regret but I have commitments that I have at home.
I have been treated with love and respect from everyone and made some lovely friends. I will be visiting the home and seeing my friends
and staff. My son has promised me that he will bring me should I need to go into a care home in the future as this is where I want to be. Thank you to all for the happy time you have made my visit. With love.

My father went into Ashurst Mews two months ago after living with my family and I for sixteen years. I was very anxious but have been extremely impressed with all the staff there. They have welcomed Dad and made him feel at home. They are kind, caring and conscientious. I have no need to worry about
him as if part of their family. He is happy and content and is playing his harmonica again. He enjoys the activities and tells me the food is fantastic. I did have one concern after Dad first arrived but after speaking to the manager it was rectified straight away. When Dad was taken ill suddenly it was dealt with calmly and professionally. His family who live out of town phone him and always remark how friendly the staff are. A heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you.

My mum was in Ashurst Mews for some time and I can only say that the staff were always polite, caring, and would go that extra mile to make her comfortable, even more so during her last weeks and days. Nothing was ever too much trouble and I was also kept informed of any changes in her health. The
staff always took time to ask how the family was as well. I would not hesitate in recommending Ashurst Mews it really is a lovely, friendly, and caring place.

I recently had to find care home accommodation for my dad who had been in hospital for 7 weeks. The staff at Ashurst Mews assured me they would help me get everything in place. I was kept updated and they liaised directly with the hospital to arrange discharge. Since being at Ashurst Mews my dad has
been made to feel welcome and at ease. His room is perfect and all activities are fully inclusive. I have no qualms about recommending Ashurst Mews as a lovely caring environment.

Well what can I say the whole experience has been absolutely outstanding from the very start when I approached the home for my Mum. The whole team go above and beyond and at an extremely stressful time they made a difficult decision much easier to make. The care my mum receives is wonderful she is always
treated with kindness and empathy since becoming a resident my mum has started to engage with people and socialise which is a big step.

We are very happy with the care and facilities at Ashurst Mews. It is far beyond what we hoped to find for our Mum. The staff are committed, kind and visibly care for the residents. The premises are very pleasant and airy, the garden is gorgeous and Mum describes the food as 'out of this world'. Activities
from chair exercises and singing to animal petting are fantastic. Covid safety procedures are reassuringly vigorous. I have rated excellent because we can't fault anything. The only one thing we could wish for is for residents to be able to get out into the garden a little more often.

I have nothing but good things to say about Ashurst Mews; my experience has at all times been excellent. My mother said she would never go into a care home, but when my father died suddenly in May (he had been my mother's carer), I persuaded Mum to try Ashurst Mews for 2-weeks respite care.
5 months
later, and she is still there, now a permanent resident. She loves the home, the staff, and especially the food! I have had plenty of contacts myself with many of the staff, and all have been very friendly, compassionate, and reassuring - amazing given the difficulties they have had to cope with this year. They are very proactive, calling me immediately if there is something I need to know about.
It's not cheap here, but at least you know the money is being spent on the right things - I hope to be placed somewhere this good if I ever need it!

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.660 for Ashurst Mews Care Home - Avery Healthcare is calculated as follows: ( (146 Excellents x 5) + (60 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 212 Ratings = 4.66
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashurst Mews Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2017

Hello, I'm Keeley and I work in the kitchen at Ashurst Mews as Head Chef.

I have actually worked for Avery for 13 years, working in 4 different homes during this time, but I have settled and found my future here at Ashurst Mews where I have now been for 6 years.

Part of my role is to come up with different meals that are both healthy, nutritious and tasty. I tailor the meals to the individual needs and dietary requirements of each resident within the home and make these meals look inviting and the menus appealing.

My favourite thing about my role is seeing the faces of the residents tucking into their food, with my favourite quote being " That was my favourite meal." In my kitchen, I also spend time making sweet treats, for staff birthdays, coffee mornings, visitors and my most enjoyable to make, the resident's birthday cakes. When their faces light up it really makes my day.

Job Title: Receptionist Joined: 2024

I began my career in care at just 15 years old, quickly discovering a genuine passion for supporting others. By the age of 18, I had progressed to Senior and Deputy Manager roles, gaining valuable leadership experience early in my career. After this, I took time to travel and explore different opportunities, trying my hand at a variety of roles, including Log Cabin building and landscaping. However, care has always been where my heart lies, and I have consistently found my way back to the sector.

I joined Avery shortly after the COVID pandemic, bringing with me years of hands-on experience and a strong commitment to resident well-being. Due to a spinal condition, I now work part-time as a Receptionist at Ashurst Mews, where I continue to make a positive difference by offering a warm welcome and ongoing support to residents, families, and colleagues.
Outside of work, I enjoy making wooden crafts and spending time on my boat, which I am currently renovating.
