Wren Hall Nursing Home is a purpose-built accommodation linked to the original Wren House set in its own mature grounds of approximately two acres. It is situated at 234, Nottingham Road, Selston, a quiet village in Nottinghamshire, only a few minutes from Junction 27 on the M1 motorway.

Day to day running of the Home is led by the Registered Manager, who as a Registered General Nurse, works "Hands on" acting as role model team leader, mentor and friend. The Wren Hall team comprises a total of around sixty five persons dedicated to providing the highest quality of nursing care, twenty four hours per day, to all Residents.

Wren Hall is equipped with modern up-to-date facilities in accordance with the NHS and the National Care Standard Commission's guidelines. Wren Hall accommodates a community of forty-one Residents, who are elderly and frail and may be physically or mentally disabled, all of whom require nursing care.

The accommodation is laid out on two floors with eleven rooms on the ground floor and nineteen on the first floor. A passenger lift in the reception gives ready access to the upper floor.

Wren Hall has the feel of a well-run family home. The pictures on the walls and various artefacts on tables help to stimulate the residents, particularly those with dementia. The gardens and outside areas are extremely pleasant and used to the full, with many activities, BBQ's and parties. The staff
(including all), are extremely caring and capable, with dignity and respect, tempered with humour. They make relatives and friends welcome and included.

"Dad" was in Wren for nearly a decade and entered when major building work was about to start. Despite the upheaval that staff had to put up with his care was excellent. The standard of care, respect and support remained 9.9-out-10 throughout the period that Wren was his home. It will never be forgotten
by us all that during the devastating last few weeks we received great support ourselves.

The kindness shown at Wren Hall is second to none. We have experienced other care homes and been very happy but Wren Hall is on another level when it comes to showing love and respect to both the patients and their relatives. Every member of staff, nurses, carers, kitchen, laundry, cleaners and maintenance,
as well as office staff, know everyone's name and treats them all as if they really were family members. It's a heartwarming place to visit and witness the love that is shown to everyone and for our family, that was what we were looking for in a care home.

My father lived at this care home for many years. It has always had an excellent reputation, a reputation that is well earned. This is what care should look like. The residents come first, care is superb, heartfelt and professional. Every effort is taken to make sure that resident needs are met, and
happiness is high on the priority list. The accommodation is superb, as is the food. The staff are professional, kind and affectionate. Visitors are welcome and encouraged. This is a real home and care is taken to support relatives as well as residents. Going the extra mile is just a matter of habit here. If you are lucky enough to secure a place here for your loved ones, take it and enjoy the trust and integrity that will be offered. We were blessed to find this home for my father and cannot thank Wren Hall enough for all the care, compassion and dignity they gave him.

I am absolutely amazed and in awe of the staff in the Garden Row lounge at Wren Hall. My mum has proved to be very challenging, behaviour wise in the last couple of years, however, the staff in Garden Row have worked wonders. She is so much calmer and settled, this has made my visits so much easier
and pleasant. I will never be able to thank them enough. The atmosphere is so lovely and friendly. My mum and I are so lucky to have such wonderful people in our lives.

I have visited Wren Hall regularly over the past three years and without a doubt, it provides excellent care for its residents. This care is delivered in a warm inclusive atmosphere where each individual's needs are catered for by a dedicated team of trained staff. The home is led and managed with great
skill and attention to details. The positive welcoming ethos of the home is radiated by all who work there. I leave my mother knowing that she is safe, that her needs are recognised and catered for and importantly that she is treated as a valued individual. I recommend Wren Hall without hesitation.

I was extremely worried about putting mum in a care home. I needn't have worried. The staff at Wren Hall Nursing Home have been brilliant. Mum like many of the residents suffers from dementia. They know when she is quiet to leave her alone then other times when she feels chatty they spend time talking
to her. The rooms and facilities are lovely, not like a hotel but a family home. The food is excellent and the general atmosphere is friendly.

Ever since I chose Wren Hall Nursing Home for my mum, I have been delighted with the care that she has received here. All the staff I have come into contact with have demonstrated excellent qualities in terms of the high standard of care they give to her. They see beyond mum's dementia and get to the
person she still is. They know her vulnerabilities and understand that the challenging behaviour she exhibits is a result of her anxieties and her dementia. They provide a stimulating, safe environment which is much better than many care homes where residents stare at a TV screen all day. I could not wish for a better environment for Mum to spend her time.

Wren Hall is a fantastic care home. My mother has been living there for several years and her care has been amazing. The staff are well trained in the care of people with dementia and their compassion and professionalism are obvious. The place is cheery, bright and colourful and always kept spotless.
For Mum's birthday, we were able to bring a couple of donkeys to the beautiful gardens and were provided with a wonderful family birthday tea and cake. It gave us a lovely day to remember.

My wife has been a resident at Wren Hall since January 2017. Wren Hall came recommended to us and we have not been disappointed. There always seems to be enough staff on duty, they are friendly, seem happy in their work and always show that nothing is too much trouble. The residents are treated with
dignity at all times and the relatives are treated with the same level of friendliness and respect. The rooms and facilities are good and the food is not only excellent but served with great presentation and care.

My mother has been in Wren Hall for 10 months. She receives exceptional care on a daily basis which cannot be said of the previous homes she was a resident at. Family and friends always comment that it is a pleasure to visit her as they always leave smiling after interaction with staff. All staff are

My wife has been in Wren Hall Nursing Home for the last two years. She has frontal lobe dementia. It has been a very difficult time for myself and my wife, but the standard of care, love and affection shown to my wife and support to myself has been outstanding. As my wife is only 66 years old and her
behaviour has been very much a problem, the time and attention she has received from all the staff at Wren Hall Nursing Home is truly remarkable in getting her to settle and also the wide range of activities they involve her in. They really do care about everything.

Wren Hall Nursing Home should be used as an example to all other homes. There are no negatives! The care and love given to my father is faultless which matters massively to us. We are saddened that our father's health is such that we can't care for him ourselves but Wren Hall takes all that guilt away
with their exemplary care next best thing to home. All the staff are caring, cheerful, hard working, professional, warm and committed to giving the best support possible. Also always bringing new methods and developments five stars!

Anita

Anita Astle MBE

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 1989

Anita is Registered Manager at Wren Hall Nursing Home.


She trained as a Registered General Nurse in 1984 at the Nottingham School of Nursing, University Hospital, Nottingham. Qualifying in 1987, Anita worked as a Staff Nurse in the Burns Unit at Nottingham City Hospital before moving to Basildon and Thurrock Health Authority to undertake the English National Board (ENB) full-time course in Burns and Plastic Surgery Nursing. Upon completion of this course, she returned to Nottingham City Hospital to work in the Intensive Care Unit. She worked on this unit for two years before leaving in 1990 to run Wren Hall Nursing Home on a full-time basis.


Anita has gained a wealth of experience relating to the Care of Older People in Nursing Homes; she has commissioned newly built homes, managed groups of homes, liaised with both Health Authorities and Local Authorities and represented the independent sector at a local, regional and national level. Anita has been a proactive member of the Nottinghamshire Care Homes Association since 1993, holding positions as Company Secretary, Chairman and Nurse Advisor. Through this role, Anita has worked at a strategic level with stakeholders to raise standards within care homes. Anita was a non-executive director of Ashfield Primary Care Trust for a period of 5 years. Anita currently sits on the Board for Skills for Care and is the Regional Chair for the East Midlands Region.


In 2001, Anita completed a BSc (Hons) degree in Nursing and gained the English National Board (ENB) Higher Award as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Anita also holds NVQ level 5 in Operational Management. Anita completed the Dementia Care Mapping Course in January 2009 and she gained the qualification for Advanced Dementia Care Mapper in November 2009. Anita is currently working towards gaining a Masters with Nottingham Trent University.


Between 2012 and 2015 Anita worked 3 days a fortnight, for the Community Programme – a transformational team based at Nottingham City Hospital where she was Organisational Development Lead improving leadership, knowledge and skills within Care Homes across Nottingham/shire.


Anita was awarded the MBE in the New Year’s Honours list 2014 for 'services to older people'.
Anita has a real passion for quality care, workforce development and improving Dementia care.
Anita has had responsibility for the day-to-day management of Wren Hall Nursing Home for the past Thirty years and has loved every second of it!
