I was very impressed with the care and support that my wife got, but surprised at the amount of money spent on entertainers. So I bought the home a set of microphones, video and screens for the same amount of money as the home spent on one entertainer.

We regularly visit our friend who has complex needs.
When we visit, she always appears clean and comfortable. This is due to the staff who support her as she is unable to clean and dress herself.
The staff are always cheerful and always have time to chat with her.

My friend always looks clean and well-turned out. Staff always have time for a little chat or interaction when passing by - despite my friend's dementia and complex needs, this always brings a smile to her face. The staff seem kind and caring.

The food served is generally good, however quite often the food is barely warm, at times unappetising, although nutritious, on occasions the wrong foods are served together. The vegetables are often undercooked and the fish can be very dry. The desserts/puddings sometimes are very heavy after the late
afternoon/early evening meals, and a lot of the residents leave a lot of their meals, resulting in a lot of wastage of food.
Reply from Kelly Champkin, Home Manager at Laurel Court Care HomeMany thanks for your feedback, we try to provide a balanced diet for all our residents' needs and we discuss the menus and options monthly in our residents committee meeting, so this gives the residents the opportunity to discuss any changes they would like to see with regards to the menu.
I will share your feedback with the catering team and I am more than happy to discuss any concerns with regards to the food when you next visit.

Sadly, Dad passed away in January 2023 following a short illness. He spent 8 months at Laurel Court and we only wish we had found this place sooner, as he had a really bad experience at a care home in belonging to one of the larger providers, but the positive is he spent the last 8 months of his life
being well cared for and happy.
Laurel Court is a wonderful caring environment, where the staff work tirelessly to make the residents comfortable and cared for. The management of the home is exemplary, where nothing is too much trouble, with any concerns dealt with immediately.
Residents are treated as human beings, and the care for each is tailored to their specific needs. The staff liaise with relatives and welcome them into the home (Covid permitting), and even let them join in the activities put on for the residents.
We cannot thank Laurel Court enough for the care and time they gave to Dad. We really miss visiting the manager and her team.

After a three-month stay in hospital, mum was transferred to Laurel Court for long-term care. From the minute she arrived until her sad death only 12 days later she received nothing but the best care, from the kitchen staff, to the cleaners, to the Carers, Activities staff, Nurses, Chaplains, Admin
staff and Management. They not only looked after mum with care and compassion during her short stay but gave the same support to us as a family. We were treated with total respect and love throughout a very difficult and sad time and nurtured by them all. Mum passed away peacefully but despite our sadness and immense loss, we will forever remember Laurel Court for its part in her final days. We could not recommend the home highly enough. Not only are the staff wonderful, many having been there for decades, but the environment and homely touches are a lovely place for both residents and visitors to enjoy. We only wish mum could have spent a little more time there. Thank you all.

My mum has been in Laurel Court for a month after experiencing an awful time in another care home. My goodness, what a difference; the staff are caring and attentive, the food is good, always lots of choices, and the place is spotlessly clean. The staff take the time to talk to the residents and their
family members. Couldn't as for a better place. Fantastic job, well done.

My mum has had another lovely stay she is well looked after and I feel at ease leaving her there while I go on holiday. Mum had a fall this time and cut her head. Mum got out of the chair and lost her balance. We have stayed at other places and never felt good but here I feel at ease. I don't know what
food or activities there are.
Reply from Kelly Champkin, Home Manager at Laurel Court Care HomeThank you very much for the feedback and compliments. We love having your mum here at Laurel Court. If you wish to discuss your mum's fall further, please contact me directly. We have a weekly menu displayed at the reception near the lifts and a daily one on the dining tables on the units. The activities do a weekly planner which is given to every resident, displayed in the foyer and in the lifts. Next time you are here, I will show you these. We look forward to seeing your mum again soon.

Unfortunately, my mother, aged 93, recently passed away after residing at Laurel Court for 4 years.
When Mum first arrived at Laurel Court, her health condition did make her behaviour challenging at times but everyone at Laurel Court supported Mum and the family through these times.
The care and
support Mum received over the years have been outstanding with very caring staff. Nothing has been too much trouble. The Chaplin has been a huge support to both me and Mum and especially following the death of Mum.
Currently, the building is undergoing a full refurb however all residents' needs are still being maintained.
The activities team put on a wide variety of activities for all residents and makes sure everyone is included in whatever is going on.
The front of house staff are very welcoming and the housekeeping team are always very friendly and ensures the home is kept at a high standard.
I would highly recommend Laurel Court to anyone looking for a care home or nursing home.

The staff at Laurel Court Care Home make it the excellent home that it is! They work so hard and are fantastic with my mum. She is treated with kindness and dignity. The receptionist and Covid tester on the ground floor are so very helpful and cheerful. The activities staff are brilliant and the activities
such as singing, music, arts and crafts are so enjoyed by my mum. The hairdressing and chiropody services are great. I really can't fault Laurel Court. My mum is safe and happy there. Thank you!

My wife who has Alzheimer's and multiple other health issues has been a resident for over two and a half years. The improvements in moral and atmosphere since the change of permanent manager are palpable. The previous incumbent was completely out of her depth in terms of crisis management and incidents
occurred which probably led to the spread of infection and subsequent deaths in the early stages of the lockdown. I have the advantage of being advised by my son who is a scientist and journalist with over twenty-five years of international experience. We put my wife into isolation well before any 'lockdown' was formalised and I had equipment that he supplied. My own experience in managing a large secondary school was an advantage I respectively suggest that crisis management should be included in any CV or training programme for senior management and that in any similar situation a member of the senior management remains on-site at weekends.

All the staff at Laurel Court have shown outstanding commitment through a very difficult period. I am particularly grateful to all the Nursing and Caring team for their kindness in looking after my wife. As her 'Essential Carer' they have welcomed me and integrated me into a real team effort. The result, despite contrary predictions, has been an almost incredible improvement in my wife's condition measured not least by her 10kg weight gain. The whole quality of life has got so much better and I can only say a big thank you to everyone.

Reply from Kelly Champkin, Home Manager at Laurel Court Care HomeThank you for taking the time to review our care home and for your feedback. Laurel Court Care Home is distinctively different to what you might expect of a ‘typical care home’. My mum has recently become a resident here and we are thrilled with every aspect of her care, both practical and pastoral. The quality of organisation in terms of communication from management staff
and carers is outstanding and all the detail of moving in, organising belongings and navigating finance has been facilitated so thoroughly and swiftly. There is a notable sense of cleanliness here, modern facilities and a nice smell! The emphasis on relationships, care of the whole family, warmth and respect for dignity is so clear and I would not hesitate in recommending Laurel Court as a wonderful family and a home in the truest sense.

My mother has lived at Laurel Court for two and a half years. She had previously lived in her own flat and became increasingly unable to manage. When she first went to live at Laurel Court she was confused and uncooperative, and with very poor mobility, needing two people to transfer her from a bed
to a chair. The care she received worked wonders, and within a few months of arriving her mental and physical state had improved such that she is now self-mobile (with a frame) and has moved from the dementia unit to residential care.

The staff are amazing with deep reserves of patience, humour and care. There are plenty of activities. During the lockdown, the staff worked doubly hard to ensure residents were entertained and stimulated. The two chaplains provide excellent spiritual support for everyone, whether or not they practice a religion. The standard of care is excellent. Rooms are spacious and en-suite. If I needed residential care myself I would be happy to live at Laurel Court

Sadly our mum passed away in December 2021. The team members at Laurel Court were so lovely at supporting both mum and us through this difficult time and helped mum leave this world peacefully. Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.737)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.737) out of 10 for Laurel Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.958 for Laurel Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (181 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 189 Ratings = 4.958
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.779 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Laurel Court Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 91 registered maximum number of service users is 18.2. 16 Positive Reviews ÷ 18.2 = 0.879
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
