Our mother aged 97 is very settled and as happy as her mental state allows. She is very clearly loved by the staff and she is never ignored or side-lined. We are absolutely confident that she is in the right place. The staff's attitude is exemplary and we are very grateful for that. Thank you for everything
and for the love and affection.

I will be forever thankful that I was able to transfer my mum from the distressing experience we had at a care home to the wonderful care she received at Laurel Court. Mum was admitted on 'end of life' care and passed away after a few weeks. I cannot praise the management, the nursing staff, and carers
enough! The care mum received was exemplary and they all contributed in making the time mum had left mover bearable. You will always be fondly remembered.

My mum moved into Laurel Court in August from a different care provider. Prior to moving in, she had almost given up: stopped engaging or getting out of bed, stopped reading. Laurel Court’s wonderful staff have brought her back to life. She is now up and dressed every day, she has three books on the
go and is joking with the fantastic team who care for her. Her room is lovely, both spacious and homely, and the people who care for her go above and beyond every single day to make sure that she is settled and happy. The difference in her is extraordinary: I feel like Laurel Court has brought her back to life.

Laurel Court also cared for my dad when he moved in in August. Unfortunately, he became very sick and was put on an end of life pathway by the hospital. Laurel Court cared for him as though he had been a long-time resident and could not have been kinder or more supportive. They really cared for him, my mum and the wider family, both before and after he died. We are so grateful.

My parents recently moved to Laurel Court. The welcome they received was warm, kind, and compassionate. The staff went to great lengths to settle them and to get to know them as individuals whilst providing them with exemplary care. They were equally caring towards the wider family. After a short stay
at Laurel Court, my father’s health declined and he passed away. Despite only knowing my dad for a short time the staff cared for him to a high standard and made a difficult time for our family so much more bearable with their attention to detail, thoughtfulness and professionalism. Since my dad’s death, they have supported my mother with great kindness and empathy. Again their support for my siblings and me was excellent. I highly recommend this care home and its lovely staff. Thank you to them for all they have done and continue to do to support my family. This has been a hard 18 months for care staff and the resilience they have shown and the care standards they have been able to maintain are amazing.

We chose this care home in good faith for our mother who was keen to avail of the support and facilities offered. Sadly the pandemic struck as soon as she arrived. We were so disappointed by the lack of communication with family especially at weekends and when her health was failing. We were made to
feel a nuisance. Inaccuracies in her care need assessment verified and addressed. With new management and under normal circumstances this care home could appeal. We took the step to remove her and nursed her ourselves for her last weeks.
Reply from Bridget el-Mokhtari, Area Manager at Laurel Court Care HomeThank you for your review. It has been a really difficult time for us during this pandemic and we have tried hard to keep relatives and friends updated. I am sorry you are disappointed by the lack of communication and that you felt a nuisance. This is certainly not the impression we would ever want to give.

My mother has lived at Laurel Court for two years. She is now in her late-90s and has been effectively bed-ridden for all that time. Her mobility was seriously impaired for several years before that and a stroke had given rise to significant cognitive confusion. It took a bit of time for her to settle
and learn to adapt to her increasing dependence; the patience and attentiveness of the staff in helping her through were remarkable as she is not always the easiest of old ladies. I entirely share the views of others who have submitted recent reviews; Laurel Court has been quite outstanding in helping everyone work their way through the restrictions and the inevitable pain and privation of the Covid-19 pandemic. It has a very large number of residents in a huge building; it has, however, never felt at all impersonal and has done a wonderful job in enabling us all to work out and retain the best possible individual communication with our relatives. The chaplaincy service is ace.

My mother-in-law moved into Laurel Court around Easter 2019 - we moved her to be closer to us having had two bouts of pneumonia. She was extremely poorly on arrival, but Laurel Court's care bought her back to life. She is now so settled and it is such a relief to know that - despite not being able to
visit her in person, we know the staff are just amazing. There are too many names to mention, but everyone who looks after her has been so kind and helpful. From the chef to the laundry staff, from the chaplain to the lovely team on the second floor, they are honestly so marvellous. I looked at several homes before we picked Laurel Court and honestly, none of the family have any regrets. Thank you to the lovely Laurel Court team!

Laurel Court looked after my mother during the last two years of her life. The management and admin were always helpful and a pleasure to deal with, and the care staff provided a high standard of care to my mother with professionalism and kindness, particularly through her last illness and in her final
days.
One of the last things my mother said to me was how well looked after she felt and how grateful she was for the care she was receiving, as she felt she was slipping away.
It is a great comfort to all the family to know that, although we could not be with her due to the Covid restrictions, she felt loved and cared for, and was reconciled and not in any distress.

Both my parents entered Laurel Court last February. The admission procedure was very smooth and professional, and my parents were allotted rooms on the same corridor so that they could be together, despite my mother really belonging on the dementia floor. My father passed away soon after. He was frail
and had lost the capacity to care for my mother; he was finally able to let go in the knowledge that she was in good hands. I remain grateful to the manager of the time for persuading me that my mother should attend the funeral, and for supporting her in this. I live overseas, so I am dependent on email to track my mother's well-being. I have been particularly impressed with the Chaplain, who prints out the letters and photographs that I send and keeps me informed about the activities my mother enjoys. I have asked other senior staff to keep me informed, but they have not been able to reply. My sister-in-law often telephones my mother, and usually finds her to be in good spirits.

My mother was a resident at Laurel Court for seven years. During that time, she received really good care. Over the years she was looked after by some excellent carers. Many of them really went above and beyond; they are committed.
During the past year, things have been difficult for us all, but for
the staff in care homes, it has been particularly difficult. However, they have been great.
The carers, the admin staff, activity staff and the chaplain have all been great. Not only to Mum, but to us as a family.
Mum passed away in August, and the end of life care she received was excellent. Staff went above and beyond. Mum was with trusted, familiar carers, and we as a family were treated in a caring and sensitive way.
Communication with management disappointed me.

My mother started living in Laurel Court a few weeks before the Covid pandemic lockdown. Prior to here, I had placed her in a different care home which did not work out. My mother settled in very quickly at Laurel Court. I visited her a couple of weeks after placing her here and took her out for a few
hours but she was very eager to get back in case she missed something! Throughout the lockdown period, I was able to speak to my mother (almost) when I wanted to and telephoned her roughly twice a week. The staff have been superb during what must have been a very difficult time. As I hadn't seen my mother for over six months (I live away from the UK), special arrangements were made for me to see her for her birthday, albeit through the windows close to reception. To actually see my mother so happy and so settled was very reassuring. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for their care, their dedication and their work.
Reply from Sinead Schofield, Deputy Manager at Laurel Court Care HomeThank you very much for your feedback. Throughout the pandemic staff have tried hard to ensure that residents and their families feel supported and are given every opportunity to maintain regular contact through phone calls, Skype calls and garden visits when permitted. The staff understands how difficult it is for our residents and their families to be apart especially on occasions such as birthdays. We try our best to make our residents feel special on their birthday with music, dancing, cake and a hearty rendition of Happy Birthday! We are working towards facilitating future visiting in line with Local and Government guidelines. Once further guidance is received, an update will be supplied to families. I will pass your kind comments onto the staff team.

Laurel Court is wonderfully caring and supportive of its residents. In lockdown where nobody is allowed to visit care homes, it is a great comfort to know that Mum is in the best possible care. If I had not known she was safe and properly shielded and looked after it would have been unbearable not being
able to visit. At times like these, you realise how important it is that those who need care are in care that is not just competent, but kind.

My wife has Alzheimer's and multiple other health problems which require nursing care. When she was admitted to Laurel Court we were warmly welcomed and she settled in quickly. From the outset, the nursing and care staff were warm, friendly and responded to my wife's special needs, both physically and
emotionally, including her pureed diet. Their personal skills and empathy are, in my view, OUTSTANDING; the warmth and friendliness towards all the family and others who have been able to visit her is greatly appreciated. My thanks and admiration for their commitment is difficult to express in words. They have skills which some political leaders could learn from and emulate. The Covid pandemic has been a very stressful time for everyone. I was fortunate in having the specialist knowledge of our son for advice and kept my wife in isolation for nearly three weeks before the government imposed lockdown. The epidemiological evidence from across Europe was clear to anyone who understood the science. Sadly, the failure at the highest level to act appropriately within the foreseeable timescale, with clear directions and PPE equipment being provided to care home managers, cost lives. All the staff at Laurel Court and many relatives could make constructive contributions to any future enquiry. I have a comprehensive press and other records to support them.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.737)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.737) out of 10 for Laurel Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.958 for Laurel Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (181 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 189 Ratings = 4.958
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.779 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Laurel Court Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 91 registered maximum number of service users is 18.2. 16 Positive Reviews ÷ 18.2 = 0.879
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
