Laurel Court is wonderfully caring and supportive of its residents. In lockdown where nobody is allowed to visit care homes, it is a great comfort to know that Mum is in the best possible care. If I had not known she was safe and properly shielded and looked after it would have been unbearable not being able to visit. At times like these, you realise how important it is that those who need care are in care that is not just competent, but kind.

My wife has Alzheimer's and multiple other health problems which require nursing care. When she was admitted to Laurel Court we were warmly welcomed and she settled in quickly. From the outset, the nursing and care staff were warm, friendly and responded to my wife's special needs, both physically and emotionally, including her pureed diet. Their personal skills and empathy are, in my view, OUTSTANDING; the warmth and friendliness towards all the family and others who have been able to visit her is greatly appreciated. My thanks and admiration for their commitment is difficult to express in words. They have skills which some political leaders could learn from and emulate. The Covid pandemic has been a very stressful time for everyone. I was fortunate in having the specialist knowledge of our son for advice and kept my wife in isolation for nearly three weeks before the government imposed lockdown. The epidemiological evidence from across Europe was clear to anyone who understood the science. Sadly, the failure at the highest level to act appropriately within the foreseeable timescale, with clear directions and PPE equipment being provided to care home managers, cost lives. All the staff at Laurel Court and many relatives could make constructive contributions to any future enquiry. I have a comprehensive press and other records to support them.

Review from Anne R (Sister of Resident) published on 8 May 2020 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Unfortunately, my experience of Laurel Court has been very different from the reviews of other people I have read. My sister has been at the home for almost two years and has not received the level of care our family would like for her. To walk into the home one encounters an overwhelming smell of urine. This may have improved since I last visited. My sister has been kept in bed constantly against doctors' instructions. Her room must be one of the smallest available despite the fact that she is a private resident paying a considerable sum each week for really appalling care or lack of care. The management of the home has restricted visits from virtually all my family and friends, despite stating that they have a policy of no restrictions on visiting. Obviously under lockdown things are very different at the moment.

I know my sister is a special case because of certain legal conditions but the management has taken it upon themselves to impose extra draconian conditions.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that your experience is not as positive as it is for many relatives. This is a very difficult situation but please be assured that we are always open to discussions to improve things where we can.

I have witnessed the nursing care of my mother first hand, having been allowed to remain with her when the home went into 'lockdown' for five days. I've experienced the fruit of a home with hard-working, competent people who make a great team. The nursing my Mum has been receiving has been excellent, the environment peaceful, and the home-cooked food delicious. When she was transferred to Laurel Court I thought she was dying, but now realise that she has merely become severely demented. I am so pleased she is being cared for in Laurel Court.

The Christmas month was excellent. The staff put so much effort into making it a fantastic month. All the shows were extremely well done. The outside music from the choir to the violin player was incredible.

Staff fantastic.

Staff at Laurel Court are like our extended family. We couldn't feel safer and happier about leaving our father in their care. They have cared for him with kindness and professionalism especially when he can be difficult. Their care has extended to us all. A big thank you to the staff on the 3rd floor in particular.

My wife agreed, reluctantly to go into Laurel Court to provide me with two weeks respite. Although she did not find the experience enjoyable she was full of praise for Laurel Court and was full of praise for the staff who she thought were wonderful and for the meals and accommodation. I cannot speak too highly of the staff and the service given to my wife. I would certainly have no qualms in recommending the home to other people.

My lovely mum-in-law lived here for 18 months up to here passing recently. She was very happy and loved. She was treated with the utmost dignity which is really important with dementia residents. The staff are lovely and caring and had a true affection for her. The home is bright and cheery with things to do although my mother-in-law chose not to always join in. There is poetry and music and the team put on a great Thursday tea party during the hairdressing session. Food always looked good with plenty of choice and help to eat it if required.

Any illness or falls were quickly communicated and GP’s contacted immediately. The chaplain was always available for a chat regardless of denomination. She was a great comfort when required. I will miss my visits greatly.

I am thrilled with the way my mum is looked after. She has been at Laurel Court since April 2018 and just has become happier. The staff, the carers, the activity co-ordinators, the cooks and the residents are wonderful. My mum is well looked after and participates in the many activities. She is not lonely anymore and smiles a lot. So nice to see. Thank you Laurel Court.

Mum has been at Laurel Court for over 2 years now. She has gone from strength to strength and now truly feels at home there. I visit every Thursday. The hairdresser is available and also two ladies that provide food and entertainment on the ground floor.
The atmosphere is always lively and fun.
The residents from all floors gather and have a really enjoyable afternoon.

Often outside entertainment is provided such as singers or reptiles brought in for residents to handle and learn about. Always an enjoyable visit.

My father is very happy with the care and attention he receives from the staff. He is free to pursue his main hobby of oil painting in his room. His other interest is watching sport on TV which he is able to do in his room. Overall he is very contented in his environment.

The care home in question most certainly deteriorated causing me concern and when notified of large increase in costs I seriously thought of looking elsewhere. I was contacted and informed of management changes and was impressed in what I heard and since what I have seen I am quite prepared to see how things develop.

My father recently moved to Laurel Court. He doesn't have dementia but he is very confused most of the time and has poor eyesight and very little mobility. The staff on his floor are wonderful. They are kind and helpful, always cheerful, no matter what is going on. I feel that they really make an effort to look our for my dad and make time to chat with him. I can't visit often as I live abroad so knowing he is getting such kindness and care means a lot to me. The staff always make me welcome too when I visit. I want to also mention the manager who manages the home with care and efficiency.

Our mother has lived in this care home for almost a year and seems to be very happy.

When she first arrived here she was not very well and quite anxious. However, due to the excellent care and attention she has received, she is now very relaxed and enjoys her time. The staff are all very caring and professional.

The management always responds promptly to any issues. Would recommend it.

Laurel Court provides a very caring and compassionate environment. As a goddaughter who lives many miles away. It is so reassuring to know that my godmother is being so well cared for. The care plan profile is very comprehensive and diligently completed on a regular basis. Nothing is too much trouble for either resident or visitor. It is a comfort to know that the quality of care is excellent.

Due to my mother being a permanent resident she gets a lot of support from all the carers, especially her key worker. As she has suffered from dementia for quite a few years now, this is necessary. They do such good work, looking after all the residents that are here. She has been at Laurel Court for 3 years now and does appreciate all that is done for her.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our service. It is very important to all of us here to try and make sure that our residents living with dementia have the personalised service that each person needs. I will be pleased to pass your views to the care team who look after your mother every day, I know they will be happy that you feel they are providing the support she needs.
