I always find the staff very efficient and friendly. They do whatever they can to make sure my dad is comfortable and happy. The fact I know he is being looked after so well, means I don't have to worry about him. If ever there is anything I need to know, the staff contact me to update me, especially in these times when we can't visit.

My Father-in-law was admitted weeks ago. The staff have been amazing, they have so much time and patience with all the patients and since the lockdown, they are happy to take calls at any time for updates and call if there are any problems. They are amazing.

My father has been a resident at Shaw Side for the last 15 months, spending time in both Shaw House and Miller House.
During this time we have been very satisfied with the care Dad has received.
All the staff we have had dealings with, from the reception, carers, medical team, cleaners and entertainment team, have always shown genuine care.

Thank you we are very grateful.

Overall Experience

My Aunt stayed at Shawside for 13 weeks, on Royton Unit. Missed main meals x 4, they substituted these with a tin of soup! No mid-morning or mid-afternoon drinks. Food cold when served. Dignity not maintained. Room not cleaned during the whole of her stay. Short-staffed by staff's own admission, mainly at weekends to which I witnessed this. Very poor catheter care. Ripped sheets on the bed. Sheets not changed for over a week. Staff swearing whilst in her room. Breach of GDPR from office staff. They rang another resident's relative and asked about my aunt's circumstances and her financial details before they realised and rang myself. No key for bedroom door or lockable piece of furniture, they told me when I looked around this would be available. Call bells not answered for long periods. Only offered one bath a week. Unable to access the visiting professionals as not told when they are in the home (podiatrist), and all this for private paying £835 a week. Find somewhere else this place is a joke!

Dear Joanne
Thank you for leaving us this review.

I believe the matters were raised to the General Manager of the site in July and was immediately investigated. The outcome was discussed in a meeting with the lady resident and also followed up by a letter of response. All matters raised in this...

The staff looked after and nursed my mother for the last two weeks of her life. The standard of care was excellent. The attention she received was kind and raring and always came across as genuine. The staff that care for and looked after her during her last hours could no be faulted.

The staff in Miller unit are absolutely fantastic. Our mother/mother in law was in the unit for several weeks and the care she received was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. They tempted her with different foods when her appetite wasn't great. All the staff are friendly and approachable. Thank you to you all.

This has been an excellent placement. Everyone here has always had my Mum in Law's best interest at heart, even when there has been a bad time we have always had staff that have listened and to make everything possible to keep her comfortable. We had had a lot of NHS issues and Royton House have done an excellent job under difficult circumstances at times. She has been very lucky here. She has many ivistors every week and we see all staff working very hard at all times. Well done to everyone in Royton House.

Mum has been on the nursing unit but now lives on Shaw unit. She is very happy, has an excellent relationship with the manager and staff. She is very well looked after and all her needs are met. She is nursed in bed but is definitely not isolated. Nothing is too much trouble. Updating needed but this does not affect the excellent care.

I feel that recommending somewhere or someone who is giving a service may not be the same for everyone, so I don't like to recommend. All I can say is my Mum is in the home and it suits her.

After three weeks in hospital, my mother needed to have her confidence and motivation rebuilt and her ability to walk again. Shaw Side staff were excellent in giving her confidence, making her secure and giving her time and support to be able to return home. The respite care was excellent and my mother is very grateful.

My mother stayed in Royton House and the room and facilities enabled her to walk again, which together with regular good meals has helped her return home.

My mother's health and well being has improved 100% during her stay at Shaw Side. The credit for this belongs to the management and staff who have looked after my mother. Myself and my family have total confidence in the way my mother is looked after and treated with kindness and care. Like everyone else my only concern is the uncertain future of Shaw Side and everyone who it will affect.

For resident and family members it would be better if outside facilities were available more often especially in view of the lovely summer we had this year. Not as many activities as we used to have.

I should just like to say my mother has been a resident at Shaw Side since 2012. Her care has been first class. The staff are wonderful in Shaw Side. They also extend their care to family when things are not so good, ie. my mother's health. I really cannot praise them enough.
