My family has been associated with Newlands for over 10 years. Initially they looked after my mother, and now my sister lives there.
In one word - superb! The staff, from the cleaners through to the carers, nurses, kitchen staff and management are all gentle and caring, and that is after all the most
important thing when your loved one is in their hands.
Some of the categories below have not received the 'excellent' mark, purely because this is a very small home, and does not have the physical facilities of larger establishments. But in terms of looking after the physical and emotional health and wellbeing of my loved one, I couldn't think of a better facility in this area.
The current management are continually striving to improve and innovate, and the end results are happy and contented residents, as well as we, the families, are assured that our loved ones are receiving the best possible care in a clean and safe environment.
Reply from Sharron Evans, PA/Data protection at Newlands Care HomeThank you for your lovely review. We really appreciate your comments and we are very pleased your family are happy with what we do. Reviews like this have a wide impact, they not only provide a personal view of the care home and experience of the residents, but they also give a real boost to the team working there. Thank you.

The very dear Mum of my twin brother and I lived at Newlands for the last 5-years of her life. She was looked after with utterly dedicated care by all the members of staff, who I would only describe as 'salt of the earth'. When visiting Mum, it was always impossible to not notice how emotionally demanding
the work of a carer is, and yet everyone working at Newlands treated our mother as if she were the most precious heart and soul of their very own family. I can only give my utmost love and thanks to all of you who lifted the spirit of dear Mum in the jewelled twilight years of her life. Bless you, all.
Reply from Lyndsey Patterson, Care Manager at Newlands Care HomeThank you for your kind words. The staff really are committed to the care that they gave your mum and the other residents at Newlands. It was an absolute pleasure to care for her. Kind Regards.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.650)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.650) out of 10 for Newlands Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.800 for Newlands Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (134 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 165 Ratings = 4.8
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Newlands Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I Started work at Newlands in 2003, I had never worked in the Care sector before, so I started with a position on the catering side and worked up to head of the catering department. Due to a shoulder injury, I left that position after many years and came onto the clerical side working alongside the home manager in the day-to-day running of the home. It was the best career change 19 years ago I could have made as I have a great passion and respect for the elderly. I have gained a whole wealth of knowledge in the care sector since I started in 2003. I love being able to interact with both residents and families.

Unfortunately, I had to leave my position but returned in 2009 as a kitchen assistant I worked up to cook having gained full knowledge in the catering department and providing a full and varied menu for all dietary requirements. I enjoy this role as much as I did whilst on the care side as I can still have daily contact with our residents
