Birchy Hill Care Home

Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My wife has been a resident at Birchy Hill care home for over two years now. During that time it's become her home from home. It's become my second home too, because I have spent so much of my time with her there. Mine is not a superficial review, but comes from several years of experiencing life at
this exceptional care home.
From the moment that we first visited Birchy Hill almost 4 years ago to the present, I have seen Birchy Hill as a happy and warm place. The staff are always kind, friendly and welcoming. Above all, the quality of care that they have given my wife has been truly exceptional. Day in day out they have attended to all her needs and given her the best possible life. I'd just like to express my thanks to all the staff for their professional skill, expertise and dedication combined with human kindness and homeliness.
Reply from Alex Keevans, PA to Operations Director at Birchy Hill Care HomeThank you so much for sharing such a heartfelt and thoughtful review. It means a great deal to hear from someone who has spent so much time with us over the years, and your words truly reflect the depth of your experience.
We are delighted that Birchy Hill has become a home from home for both you and your wife. Creating a warm, welcoming environment is at the heart of what we do, and knowing that you have felt this from your very first visit is incredibly rewarding.
Your appreciation of our teams kindness, professionalism, and dedication is something we will proudly share with them. They work tirelessly to provide the highest standard of care, and your recognition of their compassion and commitment will mean the world to them.
Thank you again for your trust, your time, and your generous words. It is a privilege to support your wife and to be part of both your lives.

My mother is well cared for in every respect. Personal care, nursing care, activities and diet. Her personal wishes and personality are also taken into consideration and catered for each day. When I visit we can sit and chat on our own with a cup of tea and a cake. Such a difference to the worry of
what might be happening when she was in her house. We couldn't be with her 24/7. Now we know she is safe at all times.

My Step Mother has recently passed away after being a resident at Orchid for over 4 years.
During her stay there the entire staff have been nothing less than fantastic and have shown her so much kindness and respect through what has been a very challenging time.
They have constantly kept me informed

Orchid care home gives me every confidence my sister is well cared for and all her needs are met. As a resident of the last few months, I am amazed at the number of activities that are arranged for the residents along with trips out for the more able. Nothing is too much trouble for any one of the
staff team from the management, carers, nursing staff and the behind the scenes staff. Everything is well planned and very inclusive.
Orchid is kept very clean and feels like a real home with lots of fun and laughter and as regular visitors I can say we are alway made to feel welcome . We are alway kept informed of any health issues or concerns and are confident that everything that is done is always for the best interest of the residents. We can not speak highly enough of Orchid Care home and in particular Rose unit from what he have experienced in the short time my sister has been a resident

My sister has now spent three years in Orchid Care Home. It has taken her a while to finally accept it as her home; that also includes my feelings towards the Care Home. My sister does not have Dementia. I have found during this period of time the nursing staff, the carers to be very diligent in their
observations and follow up actions where my sister has been concerned. They are a professional, caring, upbeat and friendly staff. My sister is actively involved in many of the activities that take her fancy. The Activities Co-Ordinator and her team are fantastic in their role. They arrange and oversea a variety of different activities. This includes trips out of the care home. This brings so much joy to my sister who is a very sociable person. The cleanliness of the home is very good. My sister's room is always clean, the surrounding areas such as corridors and lounge areas are also always clean.
The reception staff are warm, welcoming and so helpful.
The management are excellent.

My husband had been in Cavell Manor for almost 3 years. He was suffering from Parkinson's for 11 years. I cannot speak more highly of the care and devotion given by the staff who looked after him. He had suffered with leg ulcers on both his legs but the nurse managed to cure after 2 years. My husband
passed today. We thank the home for their care.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My husband ( with Az & other health issues) moved into Birchy in May last year as he had become very agitated and stressed at home. A very distressing time for me and the family. BUT All the staff have been wonderful trying all sorts of strategies to help him successfully navigate the move and this
phase of his illness. Caring not only for him but me also. They organised a wonderful birthday party for him and the family. My husband has settled in, is now calm and knows all the staff from the Manager to the Gardener and enjoys chatting and teasing them all. I believe Birchy is possibly the only care home that could have achieved this Now I can enjoy quality time with him instead of managing his health issues and agitation.
Reply from Alex Keevans, PA to Operations Director at Birchy Hill Care HomeThank you so much for sharing your experience. It's clear how difficult and emotional the journey has been for you and your family, and it's wonderful to hear how thoughtfully the team at Birchy supported both your husband and you through such a challenging transition.
It's lovely that you can now focus on simply being with him again, rather than constantly managing the stress of his health needs. Your words are a powerful reminder of how much the right environment and the right people can transform a difficult situation into something gentler and more hopeful

When my mother was initially admitted it was at the start of Covid I had no choice where she went. She was fully competent but deaf (2020 August) My initial reaction was despair (I wouldn't put a dog in there) I was not able to visit & could not communicate when we eventually visited, nothing changed
that vibe. However, now new management & staff in place I have nothing but praise for team. Mum's health is declining but care is excellent. We can talk to any member of staff & they know what is going on. So much happier.
Reply from Alex Keevans, PA to Operations Director at Mabbs Hall Care HomeThank you for sharing your experience so openly. We truly appreciate your honesty about the challenges during the early days of Covid, which were difficult for everyone, and we are sorry that your initial impression was one of despair.
We are grateful, however, that you have seen the positive changes brought about by our new management and dedicated team. It means a great deal to know that you now feel confident in the care your mother is receiving and that communication with staff has improved. Mabbs Hall cared for our dad, Joe, who had severe dementia, and we cannot thank them enough for everything they did. From the management to the cleaners, every single member of staff showed incredible patience, kindness and understanding throughout his time there.

The atmosphere in the home is calm,

supportive and compassionate and you can tell the team genuinely care about the residents. The nursing staff deserve a special mention for their professionalism and the dignity they showed Joe each day, even during the most challenging moments.

We also want to highlight the manager, who has clearly worked tirelessly to transform Mabbs Hall into the exceptional care home it is today. Her leadership and dedication are evident in the way the whole team carries themselves.

Thank you to everyone at Mabbs Hall for the outstanding care, respect and comfort you provided. You made an unimaginably difficult journey easier, and we are truly grateful

The Cavell Manor team has helped take the stress and anxiety away from our family and most importantly away from our mum. Knowing she is safe and sound, knowing that the team understands dementia and its individual needs means so much. I am sure everyone worries about 'the right time' to move a loved
one to a home - the team navigated us through this transition and continues to be caring and respectful with the utmost professionalism. The food is excellent and there is a homely feel (no call button noises, rooms are maintained with high attention to detail and everywhere is bright and airy). Each day feels different because of all the creative activities and services. We always feel welcome when we visit.

I have nothing but praise for the care my husband receives. It is such an upsetting situation for me and all the staff support and help me through this journey. Alzheimer's is such a cruel disease and the family suffer so much. I consider us very lucky to be in this care home.
Reply from Kate Fradd-Walker, Administrator at Cavell Manor Care HomeThank you for your positive review. It's a rotten disease and anything we can do for the relatives is a small thing in comparison.
