Moss Cottage arranged some entertainment in the car park, so we could see my mum from a safe distance. The staff team have been fantastic. They give way past the call of duty. They are a great team and I will be forever grateful of the way they have pulled together in this troubled time.

This nursing home is absolutely amazing, the staff are very friendly and motivated, always have a smile on their face. My grandmother has been with them now nearly three years and every time I see her, she always has a smile on her face. They are really good with her and I really appreciate that. Thank
you for looking after my nana.

My uncle was only here for a short time, he was moved into three different rooms within the 9 weeks he was a resident, each room smelt strongly of urine. I couldn’t tell you what colour his sheets should have been, they were a dirty grey. I was told to put his name in all his clothing, which we did,
but this didn’t stop his clothes going missing each day, a cardigan went missing and was never found, other residents were wearing his jumpers. He was brought down and sat in front of a TV with no other activities going on for the 9 weeks he was there, carpets are filthy dirty on the upstairs corridors. Some staff seemed ok but found others just couldn’t be bothered with him.
He was put to bed one night in his clothes he had worn the previous day and when I questioned this with the manager she asked me to email her the photo I had taken of him in the state and told me she would deal with this, but she never got back to me. I was told the Manager was new, next she had gone and was told she had left.

My dad spent his last 18 months in this home. My dad suffered with a form of advanced Parkinson's and required a high level of care.

Firstly, I would like to thank the staff at the home for the manner in which they cared for my dad and treated him with the dignity that his family wanted in his last

months. It is my opinion that the staff, carers and RGNs are amongst the finest people with hearts of gold. They are professional, caring and treat everyone with respect and dignity.

In the last few hours, the medical staff made my dad as comfortable as possible. The carers treated us all with dignity and respect. Even after my dad had passed they treated my dad with dignity and great care.

I can only thank ALL STAFF for their professionalism, I would strongly recommend Moss Cottage Care Home to everyone.

I have been visiting my brother at this care home for the last year. I have always found it very friendly and caring with a professional approach at all times. I can with all honesty say they have looked after my brother very well. They catered for all his needs from day one.
I would recommend the
home to anybody in the same position as we were.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.196)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.196) out of 10 for Moss Cottage Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.714 for Moss Cottage Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (53 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.714
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.482 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Moss Cottage Nursing Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.8 = 0.882
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
