The care offered is excellent and all is delivered under the watchful eye of good management. Thank you. The "hotel" aspect of the home is adequate. We hope the gardens can be used in the summer to give residents some exposure to the outside world and nature.

My brother stayed at Castle Grange Care Home for five weeks recovering from a road traffic accident and was very well cared for by all the staff who were always very friendly and helpful. The home is very modern and my brother felt very homely in it, he had a very nice room with a TV, looking out over
a nice view. The room was always kept very clean with his own toilet. I would certainly recommend the home to anybody in need of good care.

My aunt has been a resident of Castle Grange care home for the past three years, after suffering a series of minor strokes leading to vascular dementia. The care home staff are kind, friendly, and informative, and we were very impressed by the measures that they took to protect residents during the
recent COVID pandemic. The home is always warm and clean, and the food is excellent.

My auntie has been a resident of Castle Grange for several years after a seizure and receives nursing care. The staff have always been very helpful and very kind to my auntie. It was upsetting not being able to see my auntie during Lockdown but the staff were very professional and supportive to us as
a family. My auntie is very well looked after and they keep her safe and comfortable.

Mum suffered a stroke and she could not return to her own home. We visited several care homes, Castle Grange stood out for its welcoming atmosphere and caring staff. We placed Mum in Castle Grange and it is a decision that we did not regret. We found the staff and management approachable and caring.
Unfortunately, Covid intervened, whilst this was difficult we were happy that Mum was being well cared for and looked after by the excellent carers and staff. In the middle of lockdown Mum turned 90, the staff did their best to allow us to celebrate this occasion with her whilst adhering to the Covid restrictions. Mum was very happy in Castle Grange and liked the music/dancing activities. Unfortunately, after 3 years Mum passed away peacefully at Castle Grange. I would like to say thank you to the excellent carers and staff for making Mum’s final years happy and providing her family with the knowledge that she was happy and well looked after. You are fantastic people who we will never forget.

My mother has celebrated her 100th and 101st birthdays at Castle Grange. They kindly provided cakes and birthday stickers to make these memorable birthdays such special days for her. The staff are extremely caring and kind. Always available to help in any way that is required. Would recommend Castle
Grange without any hesitation.

Mum was diagnosed with vascular dementia and had a fall at home on 29/09/15 and spent time in hospital before being transferred to Castle Grange on 30/12/2015. I was very apprehensive and anxious about Mum going into care recalling negative stories from the media and therefore wanted to make sure she
was going to be in a caring and safe environment. We made an unannounced visit before choosing Castle Grange which was very welcoming. We could see from the way the staff interacted with the residents that it was a caring environment, everyone seemed happy and staff were on hand to respond to the needs of residents. Mum was quick to make new friends and we could see a positive change in her state of mind. After 5 years I can honestly say it's the best choice we made. Mum continues to smile, laugh and enjoy the company of staff and residents alike and the staff have and continue to work so hard to keep everyone safe especially during the current pandemic - I really can't thank them enough.

My mum has been resident at Castle Grange since 2012. During this time she has been very happy living there. She tells me that she is well looked after and that, although she doesn't have a big appetite, that she enjoys the food. I saw my mum recently for the first time in 7 months due to the current
restrictions. She looked well and seemed happy. I thank the carers for being a second family in our absence.

It was my mum's 90th birthday today and the staff went out of their way to make it a special day for her. The staff arranged for a cake and birthday banners. In these trying times of covid, we as a family have had to rely on the excellent staff to meet all of mum's needs - which they have. They constantly
go over and above to make sure they not only physically look after her, but also have a chat, which means so much as she is completely bedridden. We can not thank all of these marvelous people for all they do.

My Aunt was moved from hospital to Castle Grange a month ago and passed away peacefully there surrounded by staff who treated her with warmth and respect. I am thankful for the excellent care and attention she received in her final weeks from the wonderful staff, particularly during the current pandemic.
The
manager, nurses and care staff have shown the utmost kindness to myself during this very sad time. Both myself and my aunt were treated almost as family, I could not ask for more.
I was reassured that all staff and residents had been tested and were negative for Covid, and I was allowed to visit and provided with PPE so I could say goodbye as my aunt was slipping away. Everything was in place to keep residents safe.
I would not hesitate to recommend Castle Grange to any family looking for a place for a loved one. The atmosphere is warm and caring, the staff welcoming, and the home is clean, comfortable and safe.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.314)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.314) out of 10 for Castle Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.664 for Castle Grange is calculated as follows: ( (77 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.664
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.65 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Castle Grange is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
