I have always felt welcome at Castle Grange. The atmosphere is bright and cheerful and staff seem to be always smiling and happy and their uniforms beautifully laundered.
My sister had a severe stroke and for the last two years has been paralysed and unable to speak. In spite of this, the cleaners
and carers (and nurses) have managed to work up a great support with her. She seems to be happy there.

The staff here at Castle Grange have been wonderful, providing care and support to my father-in-law.
Their commitment and dedication is apparent in all they do, from their kindness, patience and making all the family feel welcome.
Well done and thank you to all the staff.

My sister has been a resident since May and I would have completed form earlier. I cannot fault the home in any way and I am delighted with the care provided. The home is spotless regardless of time visits occur. Initially, I took responsibility for my sister's clothes and bedding (washing/ironing)
but have since accepted the offer for the home to provide this service. Staff are caring, proficient and empathic, always ready to provide care when needed. Manager notifies me when medical care needed, always easy to talk to as are medical staff. Excellent!!

I couldn't wish for nicer people to take care of my mum and her needs.
The hard work and honest caring nature of all at Castle Grange deserves far more praise than I can say here.
Thank you so much to all involved.

I have lived here for the past six years. I feel safe here and my room is lovely. It is always kept clean and tidy. The staff and management are all very good. There are good activities and singers come to the parties. The outside of the home is well looked after. The food is good and we have a choice
of menus.

Mum has been a resident for nearly 8 months and I have found all the staff friendly, hardworking and most of all approachable. There have been difficult times with Mum settling in because she has lost her independence and mobility and is finding that hard to accept, but the staff and management/nurses
have always been there to support not only Mum but myself too. I have been to several care homes over the past 2 years and I can honestly say that this home is run very well. Any problems are sorted promptly and management are always there to speak to, I never have to make an appointment, their door is always open. The home is spotlessly clean and odourless and all the staff have an extremely hard job to do but always do it with a smile. The food is good considering the residents all have different needs, it is always hot, tasty and easy to eat. This is one of the better homes I have visited and I know that my mum is very well looked after and her needs are met.

My relative moved into Castle Grange after a very long stay in the hospital. The staff are attentive friendly, respectful, fully understanding of my relatives needs and our expectations of her care as she has complex high nursing needs. The staff all converse in a happy way to my relative and to ourselves.
Always calling her by her name, asking if she slept well, decisions re food, preference to watch television or engage in an activity.

Review from Nicholas F (Grandson of Resident) published on 30 October 2017 Submitted via Postal Card • Report
Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
There have been issues raised within the home in relation to the care given to my grandad. On numerous occasions, my grandad has been given a wet shave despite it stating in his care plan this is not one of his preferences and he prefers using an electric razor. I have brought this up on every occasion
but the staff still continued to persist in wet shaving him.

On one occasion I visited and found my grandad lying naked on his bed alone with the curtains open. A staff member appeared 5 minutes later and said they had forgotten a pad. The staff then supported my grandad with personal care on their own causing my grandad pain as it is stated on his care plane that 2 staff are to support him as he requires the use of a slide sheet. I reported this to management and I was assured that the staff member had been disciplined.

Overall the care home is as stated satisfactory but I have noticed since my sister had a fall and fractured her hip that now she has to depend on somebody to take her to the toilet, it can take anything up to 20-25 minutes for somebody to respond to the request. By this time it can be too late and changing
clothes etc will give the staff more work to do. I have also noticed staff handing out biscuits to residents without putting protective gloves on. (Health and Safety issue)

From day one, management and office staff have been very welcoming and open and have kept me well informed on any news about my father.

Also, the nurses have been excellent to my dad's medical needs. The carers have treated my dad with respect and dignity to his everyday needs and I can not praise

them enough for the work they do. They are very friendly towards me and keep me informed on dad's well-being.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.875)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.875) out of 10 for Castle Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.750 for Castle Grange is calculated as follows: ( (45 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.75
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.125 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Castle Grange is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.625
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
