Overall Experience

Our father had been a resident at The Brunswick for about 2 years. The care he received during that time was exceptional, nothing was too much trouble for the team and managers to make him comfortable, happy and safe. This high level of care did not falter during his time there and in these unprecedented times too, was invaluable to both myself and my sister, especially in lockdown. The team are wonderful with the residents and it was lovely to see our father laughing in his time there and also what was to, unfortunately, be his final months too. The team and managers were extremely supportive of both our father and us throughout his time there. The Brunswick is exceptionally clean and well maintained. The meals are lovely and plentiful. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it and would like to personally thank the team for caring for our father during his time there.

My mum was always adamant that she wouldn’t end up in care. However, her transition from hospital, following a fall, to the Brunswick couldn’t have been smoother. This is mainly down to the professionalism of the care team. They are always friendly, polite and calm, no matter how pressured. They treat all the residents as individuals and they are all addressed by their names. My mum is encouraged to eat by the excellent catering team. The facilities and upkeep of the home also make a huge difference to my mum’s rehabilitation. I have peace of mind knowing that my mum is in safe hands.

Mum has perked up since moving in. She has many needs and seems to be very happy. She loves the quizzes and the attention she gets. Caring is a strength tapping job but all the staff there do a marvellous job. Just to see her content is a Godsend. They get her ready for visitors and to see the joy on her face is priceless. I get time to spend with her and see she is happy.

My grandmother has recently moved to The Brunswick after spending a month in hospital. Staff have showed great compassion, have helped ease the transition and are very knowledgeable on process. Nothing has been too much trouble. This really gives me comfort that my 97 year old grandmother is being looked after and is receiving the care she deserves. Thank you.

My elderly parents were discharged from hospital to the Brunswick Care Home in March 2021 for a period of Respite care. Prior to this they had both lived at home independently so I can only imagine that staying in a care home would be unsettling for them. As a Nurse myself, with previous experience of working in Care Homes, I was worried about the care they may or may not receive. I am very happy with the care home. The staff are so caring and accommodating - nothing is too much trouble. Most importantly, Mum and Dad are happy. The first time I visited with my six-year-old son, the staff made me feel so welcome. One care worker, in particular, went above and beyond to make the visiting experience positive for my son too. Nice decor/good food/facilities are all important (all are of a high standard too) but caring, committed staff for me, is what any care home needs and that is what the Brunswick provide. A home from home experience. Thank you to the manager and all your staff.

I would definitely not recommend this home.
Do not be deceived by the decor. In our families opinion, it’s the only good thing about the home.

In my opinion, it needs improvement in all areas, not just the ones highlighted by the CQC report.

Thank you for taking the time to bring your opinion of the experience of care at The Brunswick to our attention. We take such feedback very seriously and we feel deeply sorry that you feel this way.

Unfortunately, as a residential home we have to be sure that, as needs change, we are still able...

I am so pleased and relieved that my Uncle has settled so well into the Brunswick Care Home. He has a lovely room where he can watch tv and do his jigsaws and crosswords quietly. He also thoroughly enjoys all his meals especially his breakfasts! It is also lovely to have the Pod where we can see him in these difficult times. Staff often go out of their way to ensure he is ok and it gives me a lot of relief and peace of mind that he is being so well cared for and looked after. Thank you to all the staff who work so hard.

The manager and all his staff took great care of my late Father, who became very difficult to deal with in his last few months as dementia set in. I cannot praise enough the way my father was looked after. The home is beautifully decorated and kept spotlessly clean. Residents are treated with respect and their views listened to. The manager even made trips to the hospital to collect new hearing aids for my father. The dining room was more like a good restaurant and my Father couldn't praise the food enough. I have recommended The Brunswick to a number of friends and will be happy to do so in the future.

My initial review was back in August 2018, which can be read below. A further 5 months have passed. During this intervening period my dad has, for various reasons, been 'a handful' and very demanding regarding staff time. Due mainly to the continual caring environment and excellent staff, dad has now settled down. We don't know what the future holds but we do know that The Brunswick staff have been terrific in their approach to settling dad to date. Thank you all very much - it is greatly appreciated.

We credit this Home (that is to say it ’s management, staff, environment, food etc) with the 100% improvement in Dad’s physical and mental state after his discharge from a 7-week hospital stay. When he arrived he had to be hoisted from chair to bed and was very confused. He didn’t want to socialise and had lost a lot of weight. Now he is as mobile as he wants to be, is a social as he pleases (usually very!), loves the staff and the food and his cosy room, which has all his pictures and belongings in. He sat outside in the summer, goes on the trips out if he feels like it and dines in his room if he’s watching the football. The staff are caring and keep us informed. Not sure what else we can say.......

My Father has been at The Brunswick since January. Although my brother and his family are local, I live in Southampton. When I visit I have always been impressed by the friendliness and courtesy that all the staff show to me and the residents. Personally, I think the “very on the ball” manager and the rest of the whole team do a great job with all the residents which I am sure, at times, is challenging. They show great inter-personal skills, patience and a willingness to do everything they can to ensure the resident's happiness, well being and safety. The Brunswick is a beautiful building; always spotless and a lovely warm atmosphere. I feel very confident when I go, that Dad is being so well looked after, safe and no falls in the last nine months since he moved in - incredible considering his general immobility and age. I would highly recommend The Brunswick.
