My auntie has been in here for over a year and after a few hiccups with her clothes and her settling in also us accepting it, it's been amazing, the staff genuinely care for the residents, they're on the go constantly looking after them. They're all clean, the food they receive is a lot. I have spent
a week in here as she's on end-of-life now and unbeknown to the staff I have watched from afar and they're great with them, they show them love, they sit and talk to them and they are never left alone it's home from home. It's clean and relaxing and that's what you need. If my auntie was in hospital she would easily have bed sores now as she isn't moving but the staff are in and out all day moving her. They talk to her, they hug her so if you're looking for residential care I would certainly choose here. The manager goes above and beyond, other ladies do too, even the night staff are great I honestly can't fault it, thank you so much for all your hard work.

If I could give this negative stars I would.
We had the most horrendous experience with this ‘nursing’ home. Please do not send your relatives here, they will be neglected and disrespected. The staff constantly lied to family members and when caught out on their lies would make further lies to cover
their tracks.

My mums have been in the care of St Nicholas Care Home for over a year, and after a few teething problems, as every individual has different needs, the overall care and help and friendliness of the staff at all levels, from cleaners and carers to nurses is very good. My mum is very content, and I wouldn't
put her anywhere else now.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank St Nicholas most sincerely for the care and support shown to my auntie, who suffers from Dementia. When she first moved into the home in June 2021, she was withdrawn having been in the hospital for almost two months, and slowly, the staff helped her overcome
this. It soon became her preference to be with the other residents in the main lounge where she has made friends. She is always clean and smart in her appearance, and following a recent hospital visit, the doctor commented on the good condition of her skin, which I put down to the personal hygiene standards provided in Gladstone. Whenever I visit my auntie, there is a lovely atmosphere in the home, and the residents and staff always seem happy. The staff take an interest in her and us as a family. They know her likes/dislikes and understand how important routine is to a Dementia sufferer, and this has all contributed to her overall happy demeanour. Thank you, St Nicholas.

Had my mother in St Nicholas for just six weeks, and within the six weeks the deterioration of my mum's health and well-being was horrific, after spending over £300 on new clothes 80% of them had disappeared after two weeks, along with two pairs of glasses and a new pair of shoes, but that was just
the beginning. After two weeks we began to see my mother's health deteriorating. She has dementia and was put in the Gladstone Part of the building. Mum was prescribed medication for as and when she needed calming down. Mum was a healthy 91 year old was able to walk, hold a good conversation, and eat and drink for herself but did have bouts where she would walk a lot and shout, but this come and goes within a couple of hours but if it didn't that was what the PRN sedation was for. After 6 weeks mum was rushed to the hospital with dangerously low blood pressure and severe dehydration. Safeguarding did an investigation and found that Mum was sedated 26 consecutive nights, she was also sedated in the day time on 6 separate occasions and on one occasion sedated 3 times.

Cannot thank you enough for the care, support and love shown to my mother.
She was so happy in your care.
The staff could not have done more to help my mum settle in and be part of your family.
The regular updates and photos kept us together when we couldn’t be.
God bless you all.

Our daughter has been a resident for over 20 years and the care she receives has never been better than it is now. Over that time, there have only been a few minor complaints these have always been dealt with to our satisfaction. We are very happy to recommend to future clients families to St Nicholas's.

Mum came in April here and as a family, we were frightened and upset of what was happening.
We all feel that although it's been a hard, sad time, all staff on Gladstone are amazing, hardworking and fabulous and caring with all the residents.
We are very lucky.

Friendly staff who give full care to my mum. They have been here long term which is good for residents. If there are any concerns they are very prompt getting in touch. Everyone helpful if you have any questions. Mum has been here for 4 years and they have known how to care well during all stages of

My granddad and auntie are both residents at St Nicholas' - one on Huskinson and the other on Brocklebank - and they have both received great care from the staff on each unit. My granddad has been in two previous care homes and had extremely bad falls and accidents but this has not happened at St Nicholas'.
They are always cared for and family made to feel welcome. I think that some issues could be communicated better e.g. My granddad's seizures have never fully been explained, however, this has been referred to a doctor.

Current Review Score: 7.6 (7.573)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.6 (7.573) out of 10 for St Nicholas Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.0 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.545 for St Nicholas Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (8 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 11 Ratings = 4.545
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.028 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Nicholas Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 176 registered maximum number of service users is 35.2. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 35.2 = 0.028
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
