Mum has been extremely well cared for using person centered activities to distract when agitated. Family are always welcomed to be involved in the various themed events each month. Staff are attentive and thoughtful.

Our mum is in advanced stages of mixed dementia. The staff treat her with compassion and dignity even when her communication is difficult.
They do their best to keep her calm and comfortable. When we visit, we are always welcomed by staff who are happy to talk and reassure us to check on our wellbeing
as well as mums.
We are happy with the care and kindness and mum receives.

My brother has been a resident for a while now. He has been treated admirably and with respect by all the staff, even when his condition makes him act and speak way beyond the norm. During all these situations, he is treated with care, compassion and due diligence. I thank each and everyone of you,
I know it is your job, but you seem to go beyond that and more. Bless you all.

My mum and other residents love having Walter the dog here. He reminds them of home and provides therapy. They really look forward to seeing him and other animals. The issues I have with this nursing home are organisation, some carers are not attentive to residents' needs and will sit on their phones,
and the main room is far too loud (TV). They need to have gentle background sounds to calm the residents (lower sound). Mum also needs ups instead.
Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Abney Low Nursing HomeThank you very much for your ratings and comments, your concerns have been raised and passed to the home team. Walter is obviously a valued member of the team! Kind regards

When my mum arrived at Abney Low, she was so happy to meet everyone, but most of all, she met Walter, the manager's English Bulldog. Her face lit up when he was visiting the home.
The residents all love him, their faces light up when he is there. It's so lovely to see, I hope he carries on being the
resident mascot.
Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Abney Low Nursing HomeMany thanks for your review, Walter certainly seems to be popular! Your ratings have been shared with the home manager, and I would urge you to go and have a conversation with him regarding any areas of concern you have. Kind regards

I really like the way the home makes every effort to make residents feel at home. I am able to bring my dog over to see my brother as he used to take him for a walk before he was ill. It brings him and other residents some comfort.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.549)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.549) out of 10 for Abney Low Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 49 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.549 for Abney Low Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (361 Excellents x 5) + (162 Goods x 4) + (39 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 567 Ratings = 4.549
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abney Low Nursing Home is based on 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 45 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
