My grandad has been here almost a year, he has settled well, all the staff are great with him, they take their time with him and don't rush him. Always something for him to do, he loves the music, they all play the oldies.

There needs to be a system to sign residents in and out of the building. Rooms need checking ft freshness daily.
Staff treat my parents with respect and kindness and have taken time to get to know them.

Fantastic care provided by very caring and attentive staff towards Mum and Dad at Abney Low. When Dad was taken into hospital, the nurses said they had not seen such comprehensive paperwork for many years, every detail was taken into account, even to how Dad liked his cup of tea.
The staff have been
incredibly thoughtful and very sympathetic to Mum and the family following Dad's recent passing.

My mum has been here since October 2024. We have been warmly greeted by management and staff all of who are very attentive to our mums needs. Mum enjoys her meals and gets on well with everyone. There is always an activity going on mum particularly enjoyed the visit from the animals. I feel very happy
that mum has settled into her new home.

There is one member of staff who consistently goes above and beyond. She not only interacts with my dad in a manner which makes my dad relaxed and happy but she also engages with family offering personal support when they are struggling. She is the usual chef but also performs caring shifts. She always
provides help + support whatever hat she is wearing. An absolute gem of a member of staff.
Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Abney Low Nursing HomeThank you for your review and kind comments. The team work so hard to ensure that all are safe, happy and well. It is so pleasing to hear that your father has formed a special bond with a 'gem of a member of staff'. Kind regards

The staff at Abney Low are exceptionally kind, helpful and professional. Recently, he was in a very bad way, which meant three of us stayed all day and overnight - we were looked after with such kindness. The staff also keep us informed at all times of how his care is happening.

Although he has not been at the home that long he has suffered bad and deteriorating health problems (which have not been caused by his stay at the the home but as an unfortunate health decline but he has been and his family treated with dignity as have the family) throughout. Obviously these events
are upsetting but it is something he has to overcome and unfortunately I think will arise again. Thank you and your staff for all you have done and continue to do in the future. Thank you.
Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Abney Low Nursing HomeYour thanks are very much appreciated by the whole team at Abney Low. My dad has recently moved in and has settled in really well. The staff are lovely and he is really responding well to them. We unfortunately had an episode where he was really poorly and the staff treated him so well. Their response with the medical teams went above and beyond, their support to both
dad and the family was exceptional. We will be forever grateful to them for treating us so well. I would not hesitate in recommending Abney Low to anyone.

My nan has been here for 2 years, she has dementia and is not good with change, all the staff helped her settle in so quickly without any problems. The care they give is outstanding treating her with love and care always. We often find a member of staff just sitting with her giving her some company.
The staff are laughing and joking and keep everyone upbeat. Fantastic home, couldn't ask for more.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.476)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.476) out of 10 for Abney Low Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.476 for Abney Low Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (278 Excellents x 5) + (160 Goods x 4) + (38 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 481 Ratings = 4.476
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abney Low Nursing Home is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
