I really like the way the home makes every effort to make residents feel at home. I am able to bring my dog over to see my brother as he used to take him for a walk before he was ill. It brings him and other residents some comfort.

Review from M L (Daughter of Resident) published on 25 November 2025 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

I am mostly impressed by the majority of staff at Abney Low. They are friendly, caring and efficient and treat Eunice well and with dignity. Because of her lack of her mobility; she often has to stay in her room. I feel there could be more individual activities for her. Because Eunice is on a minced and moist diet, some days her meals are limiting, i.e. mashed potato/1 piece of broccoli and gravy, although NOT always! The home is clean and welcoming, and in general staff are hard working and do their very best for the residents.

We note your comments and have made the manager aware, please take the opportunity to discuss the matters around menu option and activities with him. As you said yourself, the team 'do their very best for the residents' and we welcome all feedback in order that care at the home is exemplary for all. Kind regards

Dad came into Abney Low on 29/04/25. We were worried he wouldn't settle. We can honestly say it was the best thing we have done. Dad settled in from day 1. The staff are fabulous and always have a smile on their face for not just dad, but myself and mum. Always made to feel welcome. I am kept up to date on all dads' progress.

Can't thank all the staff enough for the care and attention they give my dad daily. Plenty of activities and lots of dancing.

Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Abney Low Nursing Home

Thank you very much for your very kind words about the team at Abney Low. They work so hard to ensure that every resident is safe and well cared for and the news that your Dad settled so well will be so reassuring to those looking for care. Plus, the dancing is just all, in a days work! Kind regards

My grandad has been here almost a year, he has settled well, all the staff are great with him, they take their time with him and don't rush him. Always something for him to do, he loves the music, they all play the oldies.

There needs to be a system to sign residents in and out of the building. Rooms need checking ft freshness daily.

Staff treat my parents with respect and kindness and have taken time to get to know them.

Fantastic care provided by very caring and attentive staff towards Mum and Dad at Abney Low. When Dad was taken into hospital, the nurses said they had not seen such comprehensive paperwork for many years, every detail was taken into account, even to how Dad liked his cup of tea.

The staff have been incredibly thoughtful and very sympathetic to Mum and the family following Dad's recent passing.

My mum has been here since October 2024. We have been warmly greeted by management and staff all of who are very attentive to our mums needs. Mum enjoys her meals and gets on well with everyone.
