Dundoran is a thirty-one bedroom care home in Birkenhead, owned by Newbloom Healthcare.

The team works hard to provide a safe and secure environment, making sure to meet the individual needs of service users, enabling them to maintain independence and dignity.

The bedrooms are well-furnished and tastefully decorated, and they work closely with their service users to make their room feel more like home, and encourage them to bring personal belongings, furnishings and pictures. They can accommodate couples and those requiring en-suite facilities. The home has numerous lounges, a lively dining room and a peaceful garden which is easily accessed.

The thoughts and opinions of service users are taken into account as much as possible within the running of the facility, who also have any particular needs assessed before becoming an occupant.

Grandad always seems happy. But keeps Staff on their toes by always wandering off. Love the video clips that Sammy sends to my mum.

Dad is so happy here. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help. Sammy always sends me little video clips and photos of what dad is up to. Love her for sending these little keepsakes. Always informed of activities that are happening and we are always welcome here with a smile.

Staff very friendly and can't do enough for you. Client are well fed and looked after. Like the way all staff here help each other from cleaners to care staff. Rooms are clean and bedding changed often. I am more than happy to recommend Dundoran. Notes this is not a big fancy nursing home so you will
get to know people very easily.

My husband has proved to be a rather difficult patient. He is ex marine and can be very active and need of outdoor activities. The staff have done a great deal to help him have outdoor activities (weather permitting). There have been many changes in maangement personal in the time referred to, and a
very good manager left, leaving the position in temporary hands - not a good idea! Previous manager always left her door open and welcomed drop-in visits from relatives. Not so now. I commend the staff members highly, hardworking and pleasant.
Reply from Joanna Katz, Customer Service Liason Manager at DundoranThank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that our staff have supported your husband's need for outdoor activities allowing him to remain active and that you have found them hardworking and pleasant. We also appreciate your comments regarding the recent management changes and the importance of open communication. Your feedback is valuable and will help us continue to improve our service.

Dad had an amazing time with the team at Dundoran. He was well looked after and happy. He was there 15 months before he sadly passed April 2026. The staff were amazing. Attentive supportive and always available. The extra activities were a pleasure to witness and the carr and support they gave him
and us as a family were second to none. From Uncle Wakka and our family we wish you all the best life and all our love for your futures. You were and always will be amazing. Thank you xxx

My dad has settled into this care home really well. The staff are all very approachable and helpful.
My dad was not happy in a previous care home. He was agitated a lot and was losing weight due to not eating
properly. Since moving into Dundoran he has rediscovered his appetite, regained his weight
and looks a lot
healthier and happier. They do little activities to keep the residents engaged and the whole place looks clean
and safe. The building itself is quite large and there is a lot of room to walk about, including a nice garden area. I would definitely recommend this care home if anyone requires nursing/residential care.

My father was admitted to Dundordan. He had complex mental health needs alongside deteriorating physical needs. He deteriorated rapidly in their care over a few short weeks. Despite him only being there for a short time the staff had got to know him well and built up a great rapport with him. They handled
his mental and physical health needs amazingly. They were very kind and compassionate to both my father and to his family. I would highly recommend this care home to anyone.

My sister was admitted to Dundoran on 18/02/2025, she was suffering from a fractured hip and advanced vascular dementia. She was a resident here for only seven weeks and was confined to bed as she was unable to walk. During this time, her care by the staff was kind and considerate, always keeping her
clean and comfortable in the bright and friendly bedroom. Her care was quite challenging for the staff, but they always treated her with dignity.

It was a very stressful time choosing a nursing home for my lovely 96-year-old mum, but I think we hit the jackpot with Dundoran.
We were impressed that the senior managers took the time to visit Mum in hospital when other nursing homes didn't.
On our first visit, we noted the cleanliness of the place,
the quality of food served and the activities organised to engage residents.
But by far the most apparent and important feature is the warmth and professional nature of each and every staff member. They were just lovely with my mum (and us!).
Sadly Mum lasted less than 2 weeks but the staff did everything possible to make her final days dignified and comfortable. Furthermore, they took care of us offering meals, snacks, drinks and support.
We will always be grateful that our memories of Mum's final days are peaceful ones.
Thank you Dundoran. You are Angels!

My 96 year old nan was moved to Dundoran following an extended hospital stay due to a bad fall this year. Sadly, she was only there for ten days, but words cannot describe the positive impact the Healthcare Assistant and her staff had on our family’s experience and on my very special nan’s final days.
From
our very first interaction with Healthcare Assistant and her staff I was blown away by their commitment to their residents. They were the only nursing home to visit my nan and had done everything they could do to get to know her and see her as a person. This was indicative of everything that was to come. Their care went over and above expectations in every respect, from personal care of my nan to our emotional care. They truly made my nan’s last days very very special. Every single person we encountered was extremely kind, respectful and they also know how to find the joy in very dark times. I wish I could write a much longer review with much more detail and call out all the individual acts of kindness - forever grateful.
Reply from Cos Zinonos, Operations Director at DundoranThank you for your positive feedback in response to the care received for your nan at our home. It's pleasing to know that our staff team have supported your nan in the best possible way.

We moved my stepdad to Dundoran following a terrible experience elsewhere. Our family was very anxious and all of the staff made us feel at ease and welcomed us like family. They made reasonable adjustments for my stepdad and truly went above and beyond to made the transition as smooth and stress free
as possible for him and us.
The care they provide for the residents is exceptional and nothing is ever too much. The staff are always so welcoming and you can tell they truly care for all the residents and they know them and their individual needs so well. Dundoran offers great entertainment all year round for the residents and get families involved as much as possible, which was something we had not experienced in previous care homes.
All the staff have made what has been a difficult year all the more easier knowing my stepdad is receiving the best quality care and have offered my mum so much support. Thank you Dundoran.

The most important resource in a care home is the staff. At Dundoran, the staff are warm, supportive, caring and attentive. My mother has had a stroke and is significantly impaired, but she will always smile when a member of staff comes in and greets her. The relationship she has with the staff is one
of the most positive aspects of her otherwise limited life. In the family, we are all very pleased that we chose Dundoran for her - she is in safe hands there.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.550)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.550) out of 10 for Dundoran is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.725 for Dundoran is calculated as follows: ( (119 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 153 Ratings = 4.725
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Dundoran is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
