Dundoran is a thirty-one bedroom care home in Birkenhead, owned by Newbloom Healthcare.

The team works hard to provide a safe and secure environment, making sure to meet the individual needs of service users, enabling them to maintain independence and dignity.

The bedrooms are well-furnished and tastefully decorated, and they work closely with their service users to make their room feel more like home, and encourage them to bring personal belongings, furnishings and pictures. They can accommodate couples and those requiring en-suite facilities. The home has numerous lounges, a lively dining room and a peaceful garden which is easily accessed.

The thoughts and opinions of service users are taken into account as much as possible within the running of the facility, who also have any particular needs assessed before becoming an occupant.

My husband was in Dundoran Nursing Home from August 2021 until his death in May 2023. I was very happy with the care he received there and always felt welcome whenever I visited. I always received the relevant information, by phone or email when things were happening in the home or when my husband's
condition changed. The staff, both in the office and the carers, were always extremely helpful and caring, and I would like to thank them for all they did for my husband and me at such a difficult time in our lives.
Reply from Claire Blank, Marketing at DundoranMany thanks for your kind comments and taking the time to write a review. We are glad we could help at a difficult time and provide the care your husband needed. Our staff do take a very caring and professional approach when caring for the residents and providing support to their families so this is really valuable to hear.

Dundoran is a delightful nursing home and a very caring place to trust with your loved one (having visited my mum there for two years on a pretty much daily basis, I believe I can speak with some authority). I cannot fault the standard of care there, which has always been excellent. Although there
have been a few changes in management in the last few years, I can confirm that both the current manager and the overseeing manager are both excellent and well-liked and respected by the staff.
Please do not allow yourself to be swayed by the recent damning CQC report, which was widely covered in the local press. I believe it is entirely unfair and woefully inaccurate. Sadly this report does damage to a decent family-run business (which is already struggling even to balance the books, I believe) and causes great distress to the wonderful carers working there and also the families of the residents.
Reply from Claire Blank, Marketing at DundoranMany thanks for taking the time to write a review and we are so pleased that you are having such a wonderful experience at Dundoran. We are confident that on reinspection the reports will be far more positive and reflective of the experiences you and other stakeholders are enjoying and will portray a more accurate reflection of the dignified, caring and professional approach taken by our team at Dundoran when caring for our wonderful residents.

Nice and friendly staff, always happy to give a welcome to all who visit residents, who are well cared for in all aspects, such as helping in all activities whether games or days out. The staff also make a point of giving any advice or update on residents' needs.

My lovely mum was in Dundoran Nursing Home from June 2016 until she sadly in passed away December 2022. The care delivered by the lovely staff was amazing and the proof is in how long our mum's time was spent at Dundoran. My mum was always treated with respect and her dignity was always considered and
maintained. The staff work very hard and I feel they should be rewarded for this! You are all amazing, a big thank you!
The home made our family very welcome and we were always involved every step of the way. Activities provided were amazing.

We wanted to thank the extraordinary staff for looking after our dad for the last few months when he’s been in and out of isolation with covid. You are an extraordinary care home. And the people who work there are absolutely lovely led by management who are always so kind and helpful and nothing is
ever too much bother. Every time we ring - everyone knows how Dad is and we are kept in touch with every development. We feel so lucky to have found this amazing care home. Thank you from my sister and from me.
Reply from Claire Blank, Marketing at DundoranThank you for your lovely comments. We take great pride in the care we provide so it's really appreciated to hear the staff are providing all the care your dad needs and you feel reassured at all times.

My mother, at 98, now needs professional care which cannot be supplied at home any longer. It is a great relief to see how well she is at Dundoran after a lengthy stay in hospital. The staff always speak well of her and she says she’s happy there when I visit. All the staff are welcoming and always
willing to make time for me if needed. Even though they are all really busy and I would like to just say a very big thank you for that and all you do for Mum. Couldn’t ask for more in a care home.

My husband was transferred to Dundoran after a lengthy stay in hospital and a fall in a previous care home.
I am very pleased with the way he is being looked after. He needs full care now and the staff are caring, tolerant and approachable, always welcoming when we visit and available to discuss situations,
medical and personal, as required. My husband's moods vary a lot but I am confident that he will always be dealt with in a professional and caring manner. Thank you all.

We were so worried, after previous experiences of care homes, for our dad going into full-time care during his final days but we need not have been.
The manager and the staff at Dundoran treated Dad and us with the utmost care and respect and we were made to feel welcome at all times (even when I was
being neurotic because of past experience, they put us at ease!).
The level of care our dad received was exceptional, Dad's level of consciousness during the final days was minimal but in all interactions, Dad was spoken to, explaining what they were doing for him so nothing was a surprise and the genuine caring nature of the staff shines through, from the management and nursing team to the catering and domestic staff.
During the final few days of our dad's life, we were with him 24/7 and we were looked after so well too, emotionally and physically.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Dundoran to anyone whose relative needed care. They were just brilliant.
Reply from Claire Blank, Marketing at DundoranThank you so much for your kind feedback and recommendation of us. It was really valued to hear how well your dad was treated by the staff as we know how much they care and interact with their residents.

My dad's been a resident at Dundoran for a few years. Recently he has been really unwell; the care he received was excellent. They are an excellent team and nursed him back to good health.
He loves the staff; I can tell from how they are together. I have real peace of mind that he is safe, happy and
well cared for.

It is such a relief to have such excellent care provided by Dundoran Care Home. These people aren’t just trained in care, they genuinely do care about residents and it shows in everything they do. From the welcome card on the day my dad arrived to goal setting, meeting all of his needs in a dignified
and kind manner, we could not ask for more. The manager, in particular, has gone above and beyond to ensure everyone is safe, happy and in the most beautiful space possible. The cleanliness standards are impeccable, all Covid guidelines are met and exceeded in a comfortable and respectful way. Huge thank you to all at Dundoran for helping my dad feel like my dad again!

Dad lived at the nursing home from March this year until August, we cannot thank the staff enough for the kindness and care shown to our Dad throughout his time there. He was treated with dignity and was treated like part of a large family. It was like home from home when we visited he always had a
smile on his face. We cannot praise the staff enough for the treatment we were given when Dad sadly passed away in August.
We would highly recommend Dundoran if you are looking for somewhere where you want your family member to live.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.550)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.550) out of 10 for Dundoran is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.725 for Dundoran is calculated as follows: ( (119 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 153 Ratings = 4.725
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Dundoran is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
