This is review is of the nursing section of Orchard Manor. My mum started off in the dementia area (where the carers were excellent with her) but improved so much that she moved to Maple. Not just the carers but all staff (e.g. kitchen team, laundry etc) are the strongest features. Great interaction with residents and their families. Rooms are light and spacious, two common areas and a really well-maintained garden. Bits of the home are looking a bit dated but always clean. Very flexible on food if have individual preferences. Only criticism is that communication on how the place runs, who to talk to, what can or can't ask for etc was poor. And getting hold of anyone out of hours is impossible. An induction/welcome pack would be very useful. However, my mum has now left for general residential care as has improved again and would not hesitate to return her in future or recommending.

Reply from Jackie Jones, Home Manager at Orchard Manor Care Home

Thank you for your review, we have now introduced a welcome pack for our new residents and family's as we took on board the vast amount of information required in the early stages. I am unsure why you struggled to get hold of anyone out of hours as our nurse carry a phone on them at all times but I...

My dad has been a resident at Orchard Manor for a while now. I can honestly say that he couldn’t receive better care anywhere. The staff are brilliant, caring and friendly and couldn’t do more for the residents in their care.

Thank you to everyone for looking after him so well. I don’t know what we’d do without you.

The staff at this home provide a caring, sincere and warm service across the board. In your twilight, you need comfort, attention and security. This was provided in abundance. I don't know how they remain so committed and positive but they do. I have met all staff and the home senior managers. Can't praise them enough for just being so human, so caring, and kind to those who are largely helpless but so deserving of a great service that they make special and personal. Orchard Manor is a wonderful place for your loved one to be cared for at their journey’s end.

My aunt was cared for at Orchard Manor for 3 years. During that period her treatment was impeccable. The staff are, in our experience, caring and hard-working, and the care she received, including the catering, was excellent. Following a severe stroke, her end of life care by the staff was remarkable. They were attentive and thoughtful and went above and beyond. They helped us and my aunt right to the end.

Reply from Jackie Jones, Home Manager at Orchard Manor Care Home

Thank you for this very positive review, Vince, it was a pleasure to look after your aunt and she is deeply missed by us all. We strive to provide caring and dignified end of life care and its nice to hear that this was achieved.

I could not recommend Orchard Manor highly enough, the nursing staff on Willow are superb, as are the very attentive care staff and supervision. The activities team keep residents busy with various activities which change on a weekly basis, posted on the wall to the entrance to Willow unit. The Housekeepers seem to be constantly on the go, and every single member of staff has a great warm and welcoming smile. The meals served are fantastic and a great menu is offered.

It's coming up to 18 months now that my wife has been at Orchard Manor, and from the very first time I visited to view I knew it was "the place" I wanted my wife to live. It really is a fantastic care home, with excellent staff across the board, from management to the maintenance team to the gardeners. I only have great praise and thanks to all at Orchard Manor. I am there every day for a few hours and cannot complain at all. Thank you All.

After being in hospital for a number of months my mum has just returned home to Orchard Manor with the most heartwarming reception from the staff.

I was obviously concerned about Mum being disoriented after being away for such a long time but needn’t have worried at all. They did everything to help Mum settle in her own time.

The staff requested all the information on Mum's routine in hospital so that they could continue her care plan with as little disruption as possible even installing a bedroom sensor immediately to continue the night plan. Mum was welcomed with hugs and kisses and she was glowing with all the special attention. Anybody with a loved one suffering dementia can only wish for a home who would treat them as if they were family.

Thank you to the staff at Orchard Manor for such a warm and caring welcome home.

Reply from Jackie Jones, Home Manager at Orchard Manor Care Home

Thank you, Sue, for your kind review, it is always challenging trying to ensure minimal disruption for our residents following a period in hospital. It's nice to have mum back with her extended family where she belongs.

Moving my dad to Orchard Manor Care Home has been the best decision I could have made for him. The support and caring ways everyone in the home show to my dad is so special. He is a lovely man, but sometimes now with his dementia, he can easily get upset. In the previous home, they were slow to react and this led to my dad reacting in ways which were out of frustration. The staff at Orchard Manor are excellent and react so quickly to possible flair up moments. Staff treat every patient and visitor in such a welcoming and lovely way. The introduction of dolls to my dad has turned his emotions around, he now looks after them as his children and is so happy. Thank you for looking after my very special dad!

Thank you Rob for your glowing report of how the staff respond to your dads needs. Using Doll therapy has certainly enhanced your dads quality of life and it warms all our hearts seeing him so content.

My dad has been at Orchard Manor for 5 months and he is well looked after by a kind, caring and lovely team of people. He can be difficult but they all treat him with respect and patience, and his dignity is maintained. He has a lovely room looking onto the gardens, and recently the staff have created a memory box outside each resident's room which is personalised for the resident. I would say they've got my Dad down to a tee - well done! My sisters and I live far away so visit when we can but in the meantime, we are happy that Dad is safe, secure and his needs are well met. I’m glad we got Dad into Orchard Manor. Thank you to all the staff who look after our Dad.

One of the carers is a hardworking carer. I have seen her in the dining room attending to more than one resident and in a very caring and patient way. She deals with trying situations with patience and loving care. I recommend her for the monthly award this month.

I went to see my 97-year-old Mother today. I was a bit late arriving and she was in the dining room about to have her dinner, so I pulled a chair up to sit beside her. As they started giving the meals out they placed a knife and fork in front of me and said while you are here you can have lunch with your mum. Fish, chips and mushy peas. Then we had crumble with custard and it tasted as good as any pub, café or restaurant. In fact, I comlipmented the cook on how nice it was. Thank you so much to all the staff that were on duty in the dining room.
