I live miles away from Highfield and can't visit my mum regularly. I know, however, my mum constantly receives the best care possible from the carers and staff at Highfield. When I ring my mum in the evenings she is always bright and cheerful and I feel reassured that she is in good hands. My sister
fortunately lives near to Highfield and is always happy with the care our mum receives. Well done everyone and thank you.
Reply from Janet Aspden, Registered Manager at Highfield Hall Care HomeThank you for taking the time to provide us with such a positive review. I will pass the feedback onto the staff team who work hard to provide high-quality care of all of our residents.

Highfield Hall have been absolutely amazing, their support, care, compassion, and empathy have supported our dad, my sister, and I through a very difficult time. I don't feel like we lost my dad, I've gained a family.

Following Mum’s passing last Friday, I would like to express my grateful thanks to all the carers who looked after her during her stay with you.
As a family, we have nothing but admiration for the care she received. My mum was a very private person and was not one for mixing. She was happy with her
own company and that of her carers. She never complained about anything and was always pleased to see anyone who ventured into her room.
These last two weeks have been very traumatic both for my mum and ourselves as the reality of her medical situation hit home and it fell to her carers to handle matters with professionalism and dignity which they did throughout.
One member of staff and her team, one member of staff in particular and her pal (don’t know her name!), another particular member of staff, and all the daily carers whom Mum came into contact with were without exception excellent.
With our grateful thanks.

I would highly recommend Highfield after the outstanding care and empathy my mum received during her stay, from the care staff to the activity coordinator, the cooks, the laundry people and the lovely receptionist; they made my mum's stay a lovely experience and always kept us informed and nothing was
too much trouble. We could visit whenever we wanted with grandchildren and great-grandchildren welcomed, and Mum always looked well and loved having her hair and nails done and loved the trips out. Thank you so much to all the team.

My Mum came to Highfield Hall Care home, as she was struggling at home. All the staff are professional, caring and dedicated to providing quality care. Mum's room is bright and airy, the dining room is lovely, giving a hotel feel, with home-cooked meals and a choice of menu. The main lounge has a warm
feel where the residents can enjoy entertainment. I would recommend Highfield Hall. My mum has settled into a very comfortable environment, which is professionally run, I am so impressed with the care Mum receives. I know my mum is safe and cared for by a dedicated team of nursing care.

This care home is continuing draconian rules around visiting despite the government's guidance that visits should be facilitated as long as they are "safe". This is not the case at Highfield Hall, they are still limiting the number of visits. The office staff are rude and uncaring - the term "care home"
is a misnomer.
Reply from Gaynor Lund, Home Manager at Highfield Hall Care HomeWe understand families’ and loved one’s frustrations that open house visiting within care homes is not yet able to proceed, but we aim to facilitate all requested visits both face to face and out of home as safely as possible.
Highfield Hall is committed to operating within all visiting guidelines as laid down by the government DHSC, the local authority, the CQC, and infection control. We continue to ask people to pre-book visits, so that we can facilitate testing, PPE requirements, and manage the number of people within the home at any one time to maintain high standards of infection control and keep every resident and member of staff within our home, safe. As a nursing home we accommodate some of the most vulnerable people in society and will continue to ensure their safety and wellbeing is our first priority, whilst still enabling friends and family to visit and stay in touch.

A good number of years ago I made my first visit to Highfield to accompany a friend who was going to live there. It speaks for itself if I tell you I asked 'Have you got any spare rooms?' answer, only one. Me - 'Please can you put my name down and I'll gladly wash up for you.'
Laughter all round, but
I still mean it. Professional care and genuine kindness and understanding is plain to see on many occasions of my personal visits.

The staff are very attentive and caring to my mother's needs.
The food is not very satisfactory and we often get complaints from my mum about the meals. Only small amounts and unable to bite through the food or cold soggy sandwiches that are made hours before and refrigerated. Cold ups of tea or lukewarm.
We are paying privately for this and we often buy extra food for her.

My mother has been a resident since April 2017. I am very happy with the care she has received at Highfield Hall. Everyone is friendly, caring and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. I could not provide her care so I am grateful to find that I can relax knowing she is cared for here. Her room is
fine with en-suite facilities, although a little tired.
Even though she is not mobile every attempt has been made to include her in activities where possible. The activities are varied and regular despite limited finances.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.762)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.762) out of 10 for Highfield Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.762 for Highfield Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (186 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 239 Ratings = 4.762
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highfield Hall Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
