Review from S S (Sister of Resident) published on 27 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
I clearly remember the day my eldest sister was admitted to Birch Green care home directly from hospital. Staff were ready waiting to greet her and made her feel most welcome. Her room had been prepared and was lovely and clean with her personal belongings all in place and her bed made with her own bedding, so she immediately felt at home.
At times my sister's behaviour can be quite challenging because of her dementia but the staff know exactly how to help her and treat her with kindness and compassion.
My sister likes the Head Housekeeper because she is so friendly and kind. She helps her with her daily bible reading and wears a green uniform, which is my sister's favourite colour!
The Activity staff always provide plenty of activities to entertain residents.

All staff are friendly, helpful, kind and caring, not just towards residents but with their families too, making the atmosphere like one big happy family. Thank you everyone, you are all fantastic!

My Mum always made it clear that she never wanted to live in a care home, however the time came when it was impossible for her to stay in her own home safely. My Mum has been at Birch Green for a couple of months now and I have seen her become more mobile, eating well, in a daily routine, well cared for, joining in with social activities, smiling and laughing with new friends. None of this was possible in her own home, where her world had become a small and frightening place. Having chatted to the staff, I find everyone very approachable and professional. My anxiety levels have come right down knowing she is in Birch Green and I am pleased she is comfortable and well-cared for. I thought I would see this as 'end of life', but visiting my Mum in Birch Green and seeing the social posts, my perspective has changed and I now see this as 'a new stage of life' to be savoured.

I can't praise Emma and her team enough, my mother lived on her own until she was 94. Moving into a care home was not what she wanted, however it was what she needed. The home does more than care for their residents, they care for the family. My sister and I have had meetings with Emma and Jill and they've understood how we feel and explain the reasons behind mums behaviour when she moved in.

Mum after 4 months has finally settled and the unique things Birchgreen do for residents is unbelievable. I can't thank them enough, for anyone who wants an extended family, this is the place to trust your loved ones to. Residents are treated with care and respect, I will also say love as I've seen it myself. Thank you forever grateful xx

Mum has been a resident for 18 months. She is well-cared for; enjoys chatting to staff and residents alike.
As a family, we are kept informed of any concerns and staff alter Mum's care accordingly.

Mum is very happy living at Birch Green.

My aunt has been in Birch Green for almost three years now and she is so happy here and always has been. The Staff are brilliant with her and nothing is too much trouble for them. In those three years I have never had a problem that wasn't dealt efficiently and with great care for my aunt's welfare. I can't thank everyone enough. I have peace of mind that my aunt is in a safe place.

We find the staff are very kind and polite. Respectful of our Dad. The staff are happy to answer our questions and reassure Dad. A friendly place.
There are parts of the building, that is Dads room and local toilet, that are very tired and worn, Dad has not complained.

It is sad for Dad to be in a care home, but I feel Birch Green staff make it a better experience for him. We feel he is cared for well.

My mum has vascular dementia and we have witnessed a steady decline over recent years. I work in primary care and have been looking for a care home for quite a while, knowing that there would come a time when we could no longer, as a family, provide the care that mum needed. I have been very impressed with the care and compassion that all staff provide to my mum and all of the other residents. I know that I have chosen the best care home. Thank you Birch Green !

My experience of the nursing home from when my sister entered is that all the staff are extremely courteous, welcoming and very helpful and friendly. Extra attention is paid to resident's with lots of photos of friends and loved ones at special events over the year. The residents all appear to be treated with great care and dignity.

Birch Green Care Home has looked after my husband with dementia from when I became too ill to continue. He was treated with dignity and respect and settled in well. The staff were so welcoming, kind and compassionate. I cannot thank them enough for the care they have given. My husband enjoyed the varied activities and we thought the food was excellent. He was living in Birch Green for almost 18 months until he passed away recently.

My mum was admitted to respite in July by managers, and they were literally like angels in a time of extreme distress in the family, but especially Mum. She has a number of health conditions but has vascular dementia, which is deteriorating very quickly, and decreasing mobility from a non-healing leg ulcer. The home has helped her in every possible way when other services have let us down. Every member of staff has been so lovely, caring and professional. The home is friendly and has amazing facilities, but more than anything, it makes the residents feel safe and loved. Thank you.

My husband entered the care home on February 2nd, 2024. From the first day, he was welcomed by members of staff and settled immediately. He became bedridden and was looked after with care and compassion by everyone.

I cannot thank the staff enough for the understanding and care received. Sadly he died on the 21st of April with both myself and his sons by his side.

Our family would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff at Birch Green Care Home who looked after our 98-year-old aunt while she was a resident for several months recovering from a broken hip.
We are so grateful for the meticulous care and genuine love everyone at Birch Green gave our aunt. All the staff treated her as you would a much-loved family member. Nothing was too much for them as she gradually failed to respond.
The doctors and nurses who visited her were amazing and kept us updated regarding her health. The care staff who kept encouraging her to eat and try to walk again were sensitive and showed wonderful patience and understanding.

Birch Green is an excellent example of how caring for elderly people should be done.

I visited Birch Green with my friend whose relative is in the care home. It was on the afternoon of the afternoon tea on 1st April for all residents. The rooms were set up just like a lovely cafe, with cake stands etc. on every table. There was a singer successfully getting residents to join in. All of the staff were amazing in interacting with residents and guests as well as dancing with residents. The atmosphere was wonderful and the care I witnessed exemplary. Thank you, I felt very emotional when I left.

After a 6-week stay in hospital Mum moved into Birch Green for end-of-life care.

Mum was well looked after in Birch Green. She enjoyed her little chats with her carers and the domestic team, her personal care was always taken care of. Information and updates always available. As a family we can only thank the team for their kindness and care during Mum's stay. Mum sadly passed away on 24th December 2023. Thank you all for caring.
