Longton Nursing & Residential Home

Longton Nursing Home, Longton, Preston provided my dad Joseph, with professional and loving care during the last three weeks of his life. Staff were outstanding, from the careful personal care they provided to washing his clothes every day, to checking on the family, whatever time of day or night we were there. We would highly recommend this nursing home. First class

We have found Longton Nursing a relaxing and happy place. The staff always great every request etc. with a smile and always oblige our every request for any help we may need in the care of John who is quite settled there. The home is very well managed and have plenty of staff always on hand.

Older (1980's) building so not up to modern room standard but this is more than made up for by quality of care. Staff seem cheerful and helpful most of the time despite often challenging residents. Entertainers most days (even have Alpaca visits).

During the nine months that my husband was a service user, we became part of the Longton Nursing Home family. Staff were caring, efficient and friendly. We were kept well-informed, and consulted when appropriate. Requests were listened to and generally acted upon. I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a place for a loved one.

An overall negative experience I'm afraid over an 11 month stay. The Home is NOT in fact registered to provide (nor skilled up to provide) some of the categories this website says it is - 'Dementia Nursing Care' and 'Advanced / Complex Dementia' being the 2 main examples. My mum is 73, has Alzheimers Dementia, moderate levels of confusion & is still mobile. The home couldn't keep her safe & she managed to leave the building unaccompanied on 10+ occasions. One incident happened because a carer propped open a door that should've been kept on the coded lock at all times. My mum was missing for an hour ; found by the police in the dark & needed hospital treatment for her injuries. Basic protocols initially not being in place resulted in other similar incidents. Add on top of this: meds errors + long delays in getting repairs done (e.g. toilet water leaking into the bedroom carpet for 3 weeks) + clothes & belongings constantly going missing + assessments not being followed up. Depressing.

We've had a wonderful experience with this nursing home. The staff are incredibly attentive, compassionate, and always kept us informed about my dad. It's clear they truly care about the residents, and that peace of mind means everything. Highly recommend.

My father was moved into the care home from hospital due to his care needs, sadly he was only there a week before passing away. I can't praise the home enough for the treatment/care he received in that short time from all the staff. The home facilities, help and communication were excellent and the staff went above and beyond to keep my father comfortable during his last days, the care and attention we received as a family whilst we stayed by the bedside was excellent too, I would not hesitate to recommend Longton Nursing Home to potential residents and families.

My aunt became a resident after leaving hospital in early May. She left hospital with a high level of care and nursing needs and these needs were very well met by the manager and her team at Longton Nursing Home. From the start of looking for a place for my aunt, the discussions with the manager about their facilities and nursing principles were very helpful, clear and impressive, which made sending my aunt there an easy decision. Once my aunt was there, she and I found all the staff very attentive, communicative and enthusiastic to help. They were always keen to ensure my aunt and her visitors knew what care she was receiving and ask if there was anything else she needed. My aunt's condition was regularly relayed to me as next of kin, together with suggestions from both the nursing staff and doctors' visits to improve her care plan. I have no hesitation in recommending Longton Nursing Home to potential residents and their families.

Our mum/mother-in-law spent her final 6 months at Longton. We were very nervous about her being in such an environment as she had come from a very brief stay at a nearby home which just wasn't suitable. From day 1 we were at ease, the staff were friendly, caring and helpful. We finally felt like we could breathe and the stress of looking after Mum and dealing with her decline vanished. Mum passed away relatively quickly, however, the care and compassion shown by the staff, from the care staff who simply came to make her comfortable and change her position, to the nursing staff who always made sure we were also ok was second to none. We can't thank you enough for everything you did for Mum, as the saying goes ' kindness costs nothing' Mum was the kindest person ever, so it fits she ended her days here.

My mother came into your care from the hospital. When my wife and I came to see if this care home was suitable we made our mind up as soon as we walked in that my mother would be happy here. She was in your care for only two weeks. The care that was given to her by all staff was excellent, going beyond what you need to do. Thank you for all the things you have done for her.

My father was a resident for the last six weeks of his life, and at all times, he was treated with kindness and dignity. He could not mobilise independently due to his terminal illness, so the staff ensured he was supported and provided ample opportunities for Dad to be taken into the lounges etc. Dad was a vegetarian, and the chef took extra care to provide Dad with enjoyable, nutritious meals. The staff were all superb, particularly in Dad's final days when his pain was well-managed and he was treated with dignity.

The Manager was a credit to the home and was extremely kind, caring, and compassionate with Dad and the family.

We thank them for everything they did.

My husband was cared for from 24/11/2023 to 21/04/2024 when he passed away. I can honestly say that all of the staff, right down to the cleaners have been so compassionate, caring and dedicated at whatever level. In today's society which seems to be so vacuous at times, it is heartwarming to receive such kindness and care in very difficult times.

Mum spent the last 3 years of her life in the loving care of the amazing staff at Longton. She went there during the pandemic and was so well looked after. Everybody was so kind. She found a new family and made friends with other residents and their families. We couldn't have asked for more and we highly recommend Longton. We miss being part of our extended family but the manager and team have kindly invited us to call in and we will!

Mum spent her last two months at Longton Nursing & Residential Home and I could not have asked for a more caring and friendly environment. It is all about the care and Mum was treated with dignity, courtesy and a friendly voice at every turn. Access to Mum over the phone was superb, and never too much bother. When visiting it was a pleasure to see Mum happy and talking to people in the communal lounges or enjoying an event - including the wonderful Coronation Party. Everything from admitting Mum, to her final hours was handled exceptionally well and is testimony to a good management team and happy and motivated staff. It is all about the care for your loved ones and Longton Nursing & Residential Home delivered for us. I would not hesitate to recommend the home.
