From the age of 15 Deborah (Debbie) knew she wanted to be a Nurse when her own Mum became Mentally ill and required admission to a mental health hospital. Despite her age, she became very aware on visiting her Mum that the care in the hospital was not person centred or caring.
At the age of 18 she applied to Hollins Park Mental Health Hospital to undertake her Mental Health Nurse Training and was accepted. She was one of the youngest ever to have been accepted. Following qualifying she worked in Liverpool for many years as a Staff Nurse in a home for residents who are mentally ill and can be a risk to others, for example those on a Home Office Section for Life for a serious offence. She eventually became a Manager in the same home and had other homes to support and guide.
Eventually as her young family grew, she stepped away from management and worked nights as a Nurse at St Marys Care Centre, later becoming the Lead Nurse. As her children became older, she applied to be the Deputy Manager and then the Manager at St Marys Care Centre. Deborah has been the Manager at St Marys Care Centre since 2014. During this time the home has recruited an Art Therapist and a Music Therapist to compliment the homes Multi-Disciplinary Team.
Outside of work, Debbie lives in Warrington, has three sons and has been married for 30 years. She loves nothing more than spending time with her family, family holidays, walking and following Manchester City football team.

Paula began her training at 19 years of age in Warrington General hospital, qualifying in 1987, working with the elderly until she went to work at St Helens Hospital which was closer to home.
At St Helens Hospital Paula worked days on medical, rheumatology and later the stroke rehabilitation unit.
She also worked at Whiston Hospital on ENT and general medicine.
Following this she began a family and had 2 boys, she continued to work on night duty for a further seven years before leaving to work in the private sector.
Paula worked in Care Homes in both general and EMI as a Nurse and Deputy Manager. She relocated for 5 years with her family to Bognor Regis where she worked as a Deputy Manager, returning to St Helens in 2015 where she joined the team at St Marys Care Centre as Lead Nurse on Forshaw Unit. For the past two and a half years she is now enjoying her role as Deputy Manager.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, cooking travelling and gardening.
After leaving school in 1995 Nicky worked as a Travel Consultant for an independent travel agency, later becoming the Store Manager – she worked in the travel industry for over 16 years. She had a Son in 2007 and a Daughter in 2008 and with the introduction of the internet putting the travel industry in decline and having a young family she wanted to look for a different line of work on a part time basis.
A local Care recruiting event took place and she picked up an application form and applied for a role doing Administration & Reception for a Retirement Housing Complex for over 55’s, she worked here from 2009 to 2012.
Nicky joined St Mary's Care Centre in 2012, initially joining on the ‘Bank’ working part time on Reception and eventually becoming the Home Administrator in 2016 which is the role she presently works in.
As a child Nicky enjoyed sports and used to play Rounders for St Helens first team and Boxing for St Helens UGB.

I have now been practicing as a learning disability nurse for a number of years and my enthusiasm and passion for the job has not wavered.
My working career prior to nursing spans 25 years working in a variety of roles with children of all ages and abilities. From private nurseries, mainstream schools both here in the UK and military schools overseas, to a season as a Pontins Blue Coat!
I have recently gone back to doing what I am best at which I believe is being a nurse. I recently began a lead role in a nursing home in Burtonwood, Warrington. Running a small Acquired Brain Injury unit. Lots to do but a challenge I am up to doing. My vast knowledge base and transferable skill set will stand me in good stead am sure.
Previous roles include deputy manager and the manager but not for me! At a home in Preston. A challenge as the service was in transition. Service was for some very elderly, vulnerable individuals. With complex health needs. During my time there I was instrumental in making great headway and steering the service through some difficult times, and it has now just received a Good rating from CQC. Proud to have been part of its success.
I have a keen interest in keeping up to date with relevant news and issues within learning disability nursing, primarily through social media. I am part of an award-winning team. The primary role of the site is to offer guidance and advice from various sources to both qualified and student nurses. This is achieved via blogs, podcasts and film interviews and various other modes of media.
