My Mum spent four weeks respite at Water Royd and she was extremely happy and content with the respect and dignity shown to her by staff members. She enjoyed joining in with the activities. My Mum said she was overwhelmed by the choice of food at mealtimes offered to her. Mum would definitely stay here
again and she has also recommended Water Royd to some of her neighbours and closest friends.

On visiting my relative when entering the building I was warmly welcomed by the management. The home had a very homely feel ad the staff were more than helpful. I sat in the room with my Mum. I saw staff regularly checking up on Mum (very caring). I noticed the home was very clean. My Mum told me everyone
was kind and the food was lovely.

My grandma had respite for three days in this nursing home. She enjoyed it. She loves the food and the carers are helpful and friendly. She would love to come back in this nursing home.

Staff are very friendly and they will do anything for you. They come straight away when I ring the bell. The food is very good and they let me bring my own chair from home.

The care home is well maintained and cheerful. The activities which are available are plentiful and display for all to view.The food is good and all aspects of dining are taken into consideration and produced if requested by residents. The care is excellent and all resident's needs are catered for.
The care staff and office staff are cheerful and helpful at all times.

My mother-in-law seems comfortable and well looked after. The staff pop in regularly and are friendly and helpful. Mother says the food is good and the staff always come round promptly when she rings for them, day or night. The premises are clean and tidy with no smells. Staff and management have been
helpful in helping to arrange matters with external agencies such as social work and GP's.

This is a very busy care home with residents coming and going for many different needs and procedures. The staff members are very helpful and there are occasions when there are too few available and the staff are under pressure.

I think the whole world should know the joy of Water Royd House. Amazing staff no matter of pay, grade or job role. My grandad is like a new man since receiving the excellent love, care and support of the team, that is lead so well by the management.
My words after 24 hours of my grandad being there
was WOW. I love to visit and being able to spend time in waterfall cafe with my family makes my grandad feel like we have been out some where really special.
Well done team Water Royd. And good luck to the nurse who has been nominated for the nurse if the year.
I think I should add that although the care at Water Royd may seem expensive compared to other homes you have to be in the environment to understand why. I would pay double.

My name is Catherine Smith and I am the Registered Manager of Water Royd House Nursing Home in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.


Water Royd House is a purpose-built 62-bedded care home that caters for residential, nursing and residential dementia. I have worked for Maria Mallaband Care Group for eight years, starting out as a part-time Registered Nurse and have slowly worked up the ranks to become the Manager, a post which I have held for the past two years. I have 19 years experience as a Registered Nurse, working within the private sector. I have recently completed my level 4 in leadership and management and hope to further my academic career.
