I was able to have my 1st garden visit since lockdown with Mum. This was arranged to take place in reception, but away from others, due to heavy rainfall.
The visit was extremely well organised and I felt that Mum's safety was paramount.
She looked well and happy. I always have had, and will continue
to have, confidence in the ability of Water Royd House staff to care for my mum in a lovely way.

With this being my first visit, I felt quite apprehensive but on my arrival, I was made very welcome. The visit was as relaxed as it could be considering the coronavirus issue at this present time. Also, I am not able to honestly answer the questions below as I have not been in the building.

My dad stayed at Water Royd to recuperate following an operation. As a family, we are extremely impressed by the care that he received. The staff are all very professional and friendly and treat each resident as an individual. They all soon remembered my dad's name and little things like how he drinks
his tea and coffee. My dad' stay covered the Christmas period. Not only was the home beautifully decorated, but the staff went out of their way to create a festive atmosphere for residents and families.
Reply from Catherine Smith, Home Manager at Water Royd House Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words about the care we were able to provide for your dad during his stay with us here are Water Royd. Our staff members will be both rewarded and motivated to hear that their high level of care and support were so much appreciated.

My stay at Water Royd was for a period of six weeks to allow me to recuperate following an operation. I am most impressed by the organisation of Water Royd and the calibre of the staff who are extremely friendly and professional in their approach and contribute to the happy atmosphere. Their courtesy
and care for all the residents, in my opinion, is above the call of duty. The activities although good, were not to my taste.

The care that my dad received in Water Royd could not have been any better. The staff are so attentive and caring, they are amazing, nothing is too much trouble for them. Towards the end of his life he was treated with great respect and dignity at all times. During his care, they always encouraged him
to exercise and join in activities. I would and do recommend this care home to anyone who is looking for somewhere for their loved ones to be cared for. Amazing home from home.

Water Royd is a very friendly and welcoming care home. The care my mum receives is excellent. My dad visits mum every day and all the staff always chat with him and ask if he wants anything to eat or drink etc. My mum has been a resident here for three years now and is completely bed bound and her skin
is in excellent condition.

Very happy with the care and attention my husband receives which is a priority over other things - however bedding, towels, carpets etc need renewing.
Reply from Paul Brookfield, Regional Director at Water Royd House Nursing HomeThank you for your very kind words regarding the care provided to your husband at Water Royd House. We have an ongoing rolling programme for refreshing/renewing bedding/linen/flooring etc. However, I will pass this on to the home manager and housekeeper to monitor and review.
Kindest regards

My mother was a resident at Water Royd from 7/8/17 to 31/5/18. Our family found the home to be a wonderful environment for what was mum's last journey. Mum was treated with kindness and compassion and dignity. Staff very quickly understood what mum's needs were. The manager and staff create a lovely
atmosphere, all very friendly. It does help when you are visiting a relative at the end of their life. We as a family are very grateful that we found Water Royd House for mum.

My mum has spent the last three years of her life in this beautiful, caring home. Following a slow decline into full-blown Alzheimers several years ago, this home came up top of my list of the dozen or more homes and visited in the area. She was loved and respected by all the staff, who made the final
chapter in her life the best it could have been. Top notch.

After viewing other nursing homes, Water Royd was recommended and didn't disappoint. Our family were impressed throughout our mums final months. Exceptional care, compassion, help and support from everyone including kitchen staff. Our views and wishes were met to make our mums last few months a happy
one. Staff even put on a fantastic 80th birthday party for our mum.

My dad was in Water Royd from March to June 2018 after having a stroke. All staff from cleaners to senior staff were friendly and pleasant. When he was at the end of his life, they were exemplary to me and him. I have only praise for them all.

Excellent support from staff members at a time of crisis. Staff went above and beyond their job role to support my uncle, also extending support and reassurance to myself.
Full care needs met always. Staff professional and accommodating at all times. Full credit to all staff for their dedication.

An excellent, caring and effective facility, providing high-quality care in a supportive and friendly way. Mum has been here since August 2017. The home is immaculate and great care is taken to be friendly, to listen, and to provide a safe, friendly and thoughtful environment. All are treated with respect,
problems highlighted and potential solutions discussed openly. We have been impressed and very relieved our Mum is so well cared for.

Whilst my Mum was a resident for 4 short weeks, she was treated with dignity and respect by all members of staff, I cannot recommend this nursing home highly enough. It is the best in the area. Every need of my mum was met to an excellent standard right up to the end. All the staff are a credit to their
profession. We are always welcomed and made to feel special and everyone knew what they are doing and knew how my mum was doing, again can't thank you enough for what you did for my Mum and for us as a family.

My mother will have been at Water Royd for nine years next month. She was originally in the residential area but with the onset of dementia in the past couple of years has now moved into the dementia wing. She is well looked after and fully appreciates the comforts of the home. The standards of care
and treatment in these nine years has always been excellent - as indicated below in my ratings.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.635)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.635) out of 10 for Water Royd House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.635 for Water Royd House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (214 Excellents x 5) + (79 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 310 Ratings = 4.635
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Water Royd House Nursing Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
